Riad Cinnamon by Marrakech Riad Overview

I’ll be honest – finding Riad Cinnamon tucked away on Derb el Hajra was half the adventure. You know how it is in the Medina, right? GPS basically gives up on you once you’re past the main souks, and this little gem sits in one of those maze-like residential pockets near the Ben Youssef area where the tourists thin out considerably. I actually walked past the entrance twice before spotting the discreet nameplate – it’s that authentic, understated kind of place where locals still outnumber visitors on the street.

What struck me first wasn’t the typical riad courtyard (though it’s lovely), but how the staff genuinely seemed to know the neighborhood inside and out. The guy at reception – Mohammed, I think – didn’t just give me the usual tourist map routine. He actually sketched out the back routes to avoid the crazy crowds around Jemaa el-Fnaa and pointed out this incredible little bakery about three doors down where they make these almond pastries that… well, let’s just say I went back there every morning. The rooms themselves feel authentically Moroccan without being over-the-top themed – you know what I mean? The tadelakt walls have that smooth, almost soapy texture that’s so satisfying to touch, and honestly, the beds were way more comfortable than I expected for a traditional riad. The only thing that might catch you off guard is the sound situation – it’s residential, so you’ll hear the call to prayer from the nearby mosque (which is actually pretty beautiful at sunrise), but also the occasional scooter or late-night conversations echoing off the narrow walls.

Here’s what really sets this place apart though – it doesn’t feel like a hotel trying to be a riad, if that makes sense. The rooftop terrace overlooks actual neighborhood life, not just other tourist accommodations. I spent hours up there in the evenings, watching families on nearby terraces hanging laundry and kids playing in the alleys below. The location is actually perfect for getting a real feel for Marrakech – you’re close enough to walk to all the main attractions (maybe 10-15 minutes to the big souks), but far enough away that you can escape the intensity and actually sleep at night. Plus, and this is key, taxi drivers actually know where the El Baroudiyine district is, unlike some of the more obscure riad locations where you end up explaining landmarks for twenty minutes. The whole experience just felt… authentic, I guess? Like staying with relatives who happen to have really good taste in interior design and know all the best local spots.

Reviews of Riad Cinnamon by Marrakech Riad

  • Small and private Riad with amazing staff – Taha from United Kingdom – 25 June 2025 (10/10)

Nice rooms and decor, quiet and pleasant riad courtyard and a peaceful terrace. But the staff really made the stay special, in particular Lahcen, who went out of his way to help us. All the staff were kind, helpful, and always smiling and bringing us tea. Would stay here and would recommend!

  • The perfect blend of authenticity, comfort, and warm hospitality. An unforgettable stay where every detail was just righ – Krista from Netherlands – 21 June 2025 (10/10)

We had the most amazing experience staying at Riad Cinnamon, it truly exceeded all our expectations. The riad itself is absolutely stunning, beautifully decorated with authentic Moroccan style, every corner radiates charm and elegance. Our room was spacious, stylish, and incredibly comfortable, with every detail thoughtfully considered.

The location is unbeatable, right in the heart of the vibrant Medina, surrounded by the souks, local life, and buzzing atmosphere. And yet, as soon as you step inside the riad, it’s like entering a peaceful sanctuary. It’s quiet, serene, and incredibly relaxing, a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle outside.

Everything was within walking distance, but on days we preferred not to walk, the riad arranged affordable and reliable transportation for us, including fun and easy rides with a tuk-tuk straight to wherever we wanted to go.

Every morning we were greeted with a delicious and generous breakfast, freshly prepared and served with a warm smile. The staff were always kind, attentive, and made us feel completely at home.

A special mention has to go to Lahcen, the best host we have ever had. He truly went above and beyond in every way possible. From organizing excursions to simply checking in on us, he made sure our entire stay was stress-free, smooth, and joyful. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and his warm, caring nature made all the difference. Thanks to Lahcen, this trip felt like a true holiday in every sense of the word.

We didn’t just fall in love with Riad Cinnamon and the magical city of Marrakech, we also feel incredibly grateful to have met Lahcen. He is without a doubt one of the biggest reasons we are already dreaming of coming back. Thank you for everything!

What could be improved: We honestly cannot think of a single thing we didn’t like, everything was simply perfect from start to finish. Our stay at Riad Cinnamon was the definition of comfort, beauty, and genuine hospitality.

It was cool and quiet, faded beauty but very charming. The staff were all very attentive and friendly . Great shower ! Very clean and beautiful bedding.

What could be improved: Lots of stairs ! And at night a little hidden away down a dimly lit alley

  • Warm hospitality and comfortable stay – Anand from India – 4 May 2025 (9/10)

Warm hospitality of Mohsin and the team. Comfortable spacious room, huge bathroom. Beautifully done up Riad. Unlimited mint tea available all day long, nice filling breakfast. All at very reasonable price point. Not cheap but still good value for money.

  • Superb – Liz from United Kingdom – 25 April 2025 (9/10)

Moshin was really lovely and helpful. The bed was comfortable with good quality linen and we slept really well.
Breakfast was really good. Fresh coffee, local bread, eggs and fruit. Nice and healthy

What could be improved: Just a personal choice but it would have been nice to be able to order drinks or snacks as it can be tiring going out for food and drinks all the time but I understand this is not possible in a small riad

  • just what the doctor orderd!! – Rainey from United Kingdom – 13 April 2025 (8/10)

The location was excellent and the staff could not do enough to help us with anything we requested. Once in the riad it provided the perfect quiet oasis in such a busy city.

  • Fantastic – Amelia from United Kingdom – 1 April 2025 (9/10)

We can’t express enough how wonderful of a stay this was for our family! The facilities are lovely and authentic, the food is phenomenal, and the hospitality was superb! Mohsin went above and beyond to make sure we were all comfortable and taken care of. He even helped immensely when we had a problem on the way to the airport. We will absolutely stay here again on any future trips to Marrakesh!
