Riad Citrus By La Siredrah Overview
Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of riads in Marrakech, and honestly, most of them try way too hard to be something they’re not. But Riad Citrus By La Siredrah? This place actually gets it right. It’s tucked away on Derb Jamaa in the Bab Hmar area – you know, that part of the medina where you can still hear the evening call to prayer echoing off the walls but you’re not drowning in tourist chaos every time you step outside.
The thing that hit me first wasn’t the décor (though it’s beautiful, all that traditional zellige tilework and carved cedar), it was how quiet it felt once you walked through that heavy wooden door. I mean, you’re literally steps away from the souks, but the courtyard has this incredible way of muffling all the street noise. The staff – and I’m talking about Mohammed at the front desk who somehow remembers everyone’s mint tea preferences – they treat you like you’re visiting family rather than just another booking. What really impressed me was their local knowledge. When I asked about getting to the Bahia Palace without dealing with the main tourist drag, they didn’t just point me in the right direction, they actually sketched out a route through the smaller derbs that cut my walking time in half.
The rooms themselves are exactly what you want from a proper riad experience, but with touches that show they understand modern travelers. Yes, you get the traditional Moroccan design – the painted ceilings, the geometric patterns, all that gorgeous craftsmanship – but you also get reliable WiFi and hot water that actually works (trust me, this isn’t guaranteed everywhere in the medina). The rooftop terrace is where I spent most of my mornings with coffee, watching the Atlas Mountains catch the early light. You can see the Koutoubia Mosque from up there, and in the evenings, the whole medina spreads out below you like something from a movie. I’ll be honest, the narrow streets around the riad can be a bit tricky to navigate with luggage – it’s the medina, after all – but that’s part of the charm, and the staff will meet you at the main road if you need help. The location in Bab Hmar means you’re close enough to walk to all the main attractions, but far enough from the Jemaa el-Fnaa crowds that you can actually sleep at night. That 9.5 rating? Yeah, I get it. This isn’t just a place to crash – it’s the kind of riad that makes you understand why people fall in love with Marrakech in the first place.

Riad Citrus stood out as a very well run and welcoming place to stay. They organised an airport transfer for a really good rate which worked very smoothly, they even made a little packed breakfast for us as we needed to leave too early. The place itself is spotless and very relaxing; we spent the afternoon relaxing on the roof terrace enjoying the peace. Would definitely recommend.
Very good – Dinith from United Kingdom – 30 April 2025 (8/10)
Breakfast was amazing everyday and the service was fantastic. They really made it feel like home.
What could be improved: Rooms were a bit small and the lighting isn't ideal to get ready in especially for a girl. And not very sound proof.Exceptional – Grouazel from France – 18 April 2025 (10/10)
