Riad Cocoon Overview
Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of riads in Marrakech, and honestly, most of them feel like they’re trying way too hard to be “authentic.” Riad Cocoon is different – it actually gets the balance right between that traditional Moroccan charm and, you know, actually being comfortable for travelers who aren’t used to sleeping on the floor.
The location is pretty perfect, tucked away on Derb Chérif in the medina. You’re close enough to Jemaa el-Fnaa that you can hear the evening drums if you listen for them, but far enough that you won’t have tour groups trampling past your door at 6 AM. The alley is narrow – I mean, really narrow, like you’ll question whether your taxi driver actually knows where he’s going – but that’s half the charm. Once you find that unmarked wooden door (and you will find it, eventually), you step into this gorgeous courtyard that feels like a completely different world. The contrast always gets me, going from the chaos of the medina streets to this peaceful space with its fountain and orange trees.
What I really appreciate about this place is how they’ve modernized without losing the soul of the building. The rooms have proper air conditioning – trust me, you’ll want this if you’re visiting between May and September – and the wifi actually works throughout the property, which is honestly rare in these old riads. The bathrooms are beautifully done with traditional tadelakt plasterwork, though I’ll warn you that the hot water can take a minute to kick in (just run it while you’re unpacking). The rooftop terrace is where you’ll probably spend your evenings, watching the sun set over the Atlas Mountains while sipping mint tea. It’s one of those spots where you find yourself staying longer than planned, just because it’s so peaceful up there.
The staff here really knows their stuff – they’re not just friendly, they’re genuinely helpful. When I needed directions to the leather souk that wasn’t completely overrun with tourists, they sent me to this little workshop near Bab Debbagh that I never would have found on my own. And when my flight got delayed, they let me store my bags and hang out in the common areas without making me feel like I was imposing. That kind of flexibility means a lot when you’re dealing with travel hiccups.
The breakfast is served in the courtyard, and while it’s not elaborate, it’s fresh and local – proper Moroccan bread, local honey, fresh orange juice that’s actually squeezed from oranges, not from a carton. You’ll probably find yourself lingering over coffee longer than usual because the morning light in that courtyard is just incredible.
I mean, this isn’t the fanciest riad in Marrakech, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s got that 9.1 rating for a reason – it’s the kind of place that gets the fundamentals right and makes you feel like you’re experiencing the real Marrakech, not some sanitized version of it. If you’re looking for a pool or a spa, look elsewhere. But if you want to stay somewhere that feels authentically Moroccan while still being comfortable enough for a proper night’s sleep, this is your spot.

Reviews of Riad Cocoon
Exceptional – Jenny from United Kingdom – 30 April 2025 (10/10)
Clean, comfortable, great location & everything we needed for a perfect stay. Corrine & Jama looked after us well providing local knowledge & recommendations – nothing was too much trouble. We had a lovely meal waiting for us on the rooftop terrace when we arrived, and the Hammam spa & massage later in our stay was a real treat. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again on any future trips
Superb – Sian from United Kingdom – 23 April 2025 (9/10)
The location was fantastic; we were so close to everything but it felt like a peaceful sanctuary. Corinne and her staff were so welcoming and helpful, which made our stay very special.

You won’t regret booking this Riad. I’ve travelled a lot of places and this is one of the most I’ve felt Most welcomed and looked after, from the second we arrived to the second we left. The staff really made this trip extra special for us.
Corrine is the owner and she is absolutely wonderful. Listen to all the recommendations they have to offer you, and you will not be disappointed! Abdo & Jama make it a pleasure. The place wouldn’t be the same without them! Breakfast & Food was lovely, the rooftop is beautiful.
It’s also very clean, the food & the traditional massage are just extra bonus touches. The interior is also lovely, I would 100% stay here again. Thank you to you all for making our stay perfect. We booked a few different Riads on our trip and this was by far the best. I wish we spent more time here! Go experience this wonderful gem. It has a special place in my heart! ❤️

What could be improved: Nothing… everything was perfectA beautiful tranquil riad in a perfect location. – Ann from Ireland – 6 February 2025 (10/10)
The Riad was gorgeous, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. It is in a quiet area yet only a few minutes walk from the buzz of the souks. Corinne and her staff are incredible going out of their way to ensure that we had an enjoyable trip. The breakfast was a highlight and the Tagine that I enjoyed on the first night was definitely the nicest of the trip.
Riad Coocon was perfection from beginning to end – Kristen from United States – 27 January 2025 (10/10)
Our stay at Riad Cocoon was exceptional. Airport pick up was a gem. It was our first time in Marrakesh but Corrine and Gemma made us feel like family. Every trip excursion was seamless. We chose the desert tour with camel ride at sunset and the Atlas Mountains trips. Gemma took the time to go over the map, sights, restaurants, etc. And the food, including dinner, at the Riad was superb. I cannot recommend Riad Cocoon enough.

The Riad is in the heart of the Medina and perfect for exploring. We stayed in the beautiful Nirvana suite with its own private terrace, where we could relax and enjoy the views over Marrakesh.
We were looked after so well by Corinne, Jemaa and the wonderful team at Riad Cacoon.
The breakfasts were delicious and we also enjoyed an excellent lunch and an incredible slow roasted lamb for dinner on our first night. A big thank you to Corinne and the team for making us feel so welcome and for an enjoyable stay.Marrakesh is an Experience – Elaine from United Kingdom – 11 October 2024 (9/10)
The staff are amazing and go out of their way to help you. Ordering taxis and helping with location Apps. Even gave us some cash to help us until we got to an ATM. Had a meal at the Riad on the first night which was delicious.
What could be improved: Bath was a bit slippery and high up for older clients. Could do with a non slip bath mat. If getting money from an ATM make sure you go to one that is attached to a Bank as we were charged an extra £20 at a free standing ATM.A wonderful stay at the Riad Cocoon! – Evangelista from Portugal – 6 September 2024 (9/10)
Overall, our stay at the Riad Cocoon was magnificent. All the staff was very attentive, kind, welcoming and so friendly. Thank you, Corinne, Madame Kenza and Jamal for the lovely hospitality. You definitely make the difference! Breakfast and dinner – we chose to have dinner there once, were superb, served on the roof top in a relaxed and comfortable way – all we want when we are on holiday.
Although the room was not the biggest one, it was clean, cosy and comfortable with air conditioner and a great bathroom.
Corinne was always helpful, giving us precious tips on the city and its places.
We wish the Riad all the best of luck.
Keep up the great job and more guests will continue to be pleased over there.
Nelcy and Silva – from Portugal.
What could be improved: There is nothing we didn't like at the Riad.
We had a completely pleasant stay.
