Riad Couleurs du Sud Overview
You know what? I’ve walked past a dozen riads in Marrakech that look pretty from the outside, but Riad Couleurs du Sud actually delivers on the promise. It’s tucked away on Arset Ihiri in the Bab Doukala neighborhood – and honestly, that’s part of its charm. You’re not dealing with the chaos of Jemaa el-Fnaa tourists stumbling around at all hours, but you’re still close enough to duck into the medina’s heart when you want to. The location is sort of perfect if you ask me; residential enough that you’ll see actual Marrakchi families going about their day, but the main souks are maybe a 10-minute walk through those twisting alleyways.
The first thing that hits you when you step inside is how they’ve managed to keep that authentic riad feeling without making you feel like you’re roughing it. I mean, the traditional courtyard with its fountain and orange trees – that’s real, not some Instagram setup. But then you’ve got proper hot water pressure (trust me, this matters after a day exploring), and the WiFi actually works in the rooms, not just the lobby like some places. The staff here genuinely seems to know the neighborhood; when I asked about finding a good hammam nearby, they didn’t just point me toward the touristy ones but recommended this local spot where I paid maybe 50 dirhams instead of 200. The rooms have that beautiful tadelakt plasterwork on the walls, and while the beds are firm (very Moroccan style), they’re comfortable enough that jet lag didn’t keep me tossing around.
What really sold me on this place was the rooftop terrace at sunset – you can see the Atlas Mountains on clear days, and there’s something magical about hearing the call to prayer echo across the medina while you’re sipping mint tea up there. The breakfast spread is solid too, though it’s the same every day (fresh bread, local honey, orange juice that’s actually squeezed from oranges). One small thing that impressed me: they have a night watchman, so you don’t have to worry about the typical medina confusion of finding your door after dark. The entrance can be a bit tricky to locate the first time – it’s one of those unmarked wooden doors that all look the same – but once you know it, you feel like you’re in on a secret. For the price point and that 8.7 rating, it makes sense; this isn’t luxury resort territory, but it’s authentic Morocco done right, with enough modern touches that you’re not constantly dealing with inconveniences.

Great location in the Medina but away from the really busy areas. Lovely staff who were really helpful and made sure we had a good stay. The pool and rooftop area were great for cooling off and relaxing at the end of the day.

What could be improved: Buffet breakfast not as advertised.really beautiful riad in excellent location for the Medina and souks – Mathilda from United Kingdom – 14 March 2025 (9/10)
tasty breakfast every morning – selection of moroccan breads, jams and almond butters. the mint tea was delicious
What could be improved: the water unexpectedly cut out one morning and the shower wouldn't get hot one day – not major issues but there was no explanation when asked (probably due to the language barrier)Amazing experience in this Riad – Claudia from Portugal – 25 October 2024 (10/10)
Everyone welcomed us very nicely, provided a shuttle from the airport to the Riad; and when entering the Riad we had Maroccon tea and cookies waiting for us. Our bedroom was in the floor of the breakfast but we didn't feel bothered by that. Actually, could hardly hear other guests – the place was quite nice.
The bedroom was big, bathroom too and AC was very needed even in end of October.
Riad is 20min walking distance from Medina.
Overall our experience was very good, couldn't recommend it more!Very good – Alexia from France – 18 October 2024 (8/10)
Very helpful staff.
What could be improved: The Riad booked us a guide to take us around the Médina/Souks. He was more interested in taking us to shops where he got commission! The trip to the Ourika waterfalls, is not for the faint hearted!Very good staff they helped so much – Karol from United Kingdom – 7 June 2024 (10/10)
