Riad Dar Al Assad Overview
You know what hits you first when you step into Riad Dar Al Assad? The silence. I mean, you’re literally just off Derb El Hajra Dabachi – which honestly sounds more intimidating than it is – but once those heavy wooden doors close behind you, it’s like Marrakech’s medina just… disappears. The whole place feels like someone’s incredibly stylish grandmother decided to open her home to travelers, if said grandmother happened to have impeccable taste and unlimited renovation budget.
The location is actually perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in the medina rather than just visiting it. You’re deep enough in the Dabachi neighborhood that you’ll hear the morning call to prayer echoing off ancient walls instead of tour groups, but close enough to the main souks that you can still stumble back after getting lost in the maze of carpet sellers and spice vendors. Fair warning though – your taxi driver will probably drop you at the nearest car-accessible street, and you’ll need to walk the last bit through some narrow alleys. It’s part of the charm, but maybe pack light or tip your bellhop well.
What really sets this place apart from other riads is the attention to detail that doesn’t feel forced. The breakfast tagines arrive still bubbling (and I swear the bread is baked somewhere nearby – you can smell it), the rooftop terrace has these perfect sight lines to the Atlas Mountains that somehow avoid the neighboring satellite dishes, and the staff actually remembers your name instead of just smiling politely. The rooms themselves are spacious by medina standards – I mean, we’re talking about a 16th-century building here, so don’t expect American hotel proportions – but the ceilings are high enough that you never feel cramped, and the bathrooms have proper water pressure, which honestly can be hit or miss in this part of the city. The courtyard pool is small but functional, and it’s surprisingly refreshing after a day of haggling in 100-degree heat. Just don’t expect to do laps – it’s more of a “cool off with a mint tea” situation. The whole experience feels authentic without being uncomfortable, if that makes sense. Like, you’re definitely in Morocco, but you’re not roughing it.

Excellent short stay that exceeded our expectations. – Nigel from United Kingdom – 14 May 2025 (10/10)
Patrice is a superb host and very knowledgeable. He goes out of his way to make the stay a success. Breakfast was outstanding on the rooftop terrace, more than we could eat. The hammam was easily accessible within the Riad and we would definitely recommend. Patrice arranged seamless transport to and from the airport, which worked well. The Riad takes payments with a card. We found that cash was required in most other situations, Euro notes being accepted interchangeably with the local currency.

We had a wonderful stay. All of the team were incredibly attentive and made sure everything was perfect during our stay. The Riad is absolutely stunning and the location was superb. Everything was immaculately clean. Breakfast served on our terrace was incredible every day. We had one evening meal served to us on the roof terrace and it was delicious, and served in beautiful surroundings. Airport pick ups and drop offs were smooth. This is a wonderful place and we would recommend 100%
What could be improved: Everything was wonderful, nothing that we would change.Magical place – Gurpreet from United Kingdom – 22 March 2025 (10/10)
This place is magical. Very Beautiful and welcoming. The riad is an amazing spot for Instagram photos. Beautiful fragrance throughout the Riad. Clean room and elegant decor. Staff are very professional and welcoming. On our arrival, we were given welcome bevarage (mint tea) and cake. Our room had pool view and at the same time it was very private. Very quiet away from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech. Situated near the souks. Easy to get around places by
walking mostly. Breakfast was amazing and generous portions. Patrice has been such an amazing host. We had a relaxing massage at the spa. Slept great. Overrall an excellent and relaxing experience. Last but not least the roof top is amazing with jacuzzi.
What could be improved: I cannot fault this place at all. Amazing place.Superb – Nikki from United Kingdom – 16 March 2025 (9/10)
