Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of riads around Marrakech, and Riad Dar Alfarah actually gets it right in ways that matter. Tucked into Derb Touareg in the Kasbah – you know, the older, quieter part that most tourists rush past on their way to Jemaa el-Fnaa – this place feels like you’re staying in someone’s beautifully restored family home rather than a hotel that’s trying too hard to be authentic.

The thing about this location is it’s honestly perfect if you want to experience real Marrakech without the constant hustle. You’re maybe a seven-minute walk from the Saadian Tombs (though good luck finding the entrance on your first try), and the Kasbah Mosque is literally around the corner. But here’s what I love – when you duck into that narrow derb and those heavy wooden doors close behind you, the city just… disappears. The staff will meet you at the main street if you’re dragging luggage, which trust me, you’ll appreciate after navigating those winding alleys. The courtyard hits you first – that classic riad layout with the fountain in the center, but they’ve done the tilework in these deep blues and whites that catch the light just right. I mean, every riad has a courtyard, but this one actually feels lived-in rather than posed for Instagram.

What really sold me was the attention to details that matter when you’re actually staying somewhere. The rooms – well, mine faced the courtyard so no street noise, which is crucial in Marrakech – had this gorgeous tadelakt plastering that stays cool even when it’s blazing outside. The bathroom was spacious (not always a given in these old buildings), and honestly, the water pressure was better than my apartment back home. They’ve got this rooftop terrace where you can see the Atlas Mountains on clear days, and it’s where they serve breakfast – proper Moroccan bread, fresh orange juice, the works. You’ll probably end up there in the evenings too because the sunset views are ridiculous. The staff, particularly this guy Hassan who seems to run everything, knows the medina like the back of his hand. He’ll tell you which hammam to visit (skip the touristy ones), where to eat pastilla that doesn’t cost a fortune, and honestly, his restaurant recommendations were spot-on every time. The only minor thing – and I’m being picky here – is that the WiFi can be spotty in some rooms, but you’re in Marrakech, so maybe that’s not the worst thing. For the price point and that 9-star rating, Riad Dar Alfarah delivers on being genuinely Moroccan without feeling like you’re staying in a museum.

  Riad Dar Alfarah was the perfect location to spend a few nights whilst visiting Marrakech. The property is beautiful and aesthetically stunning and has several spots to relax and soak in the sun. The rooftop terrace was lovely with a few different places to chill, as well as the downstairs. All of the staff were lovely, unfortunately I did not manage to get their names but they all went above and beyond to make our stay excellent! The location is perfect, about a 10 minute walk to the main square and a taxi rank near Kasbah Mosque only a 2/3 mins walk away. Would definitely recommend ☺️
  
  What could be improved: The only thing I’d have to say is no fridge in the room to store water, as it is very hot the drinks were room temperature within an hour or two.

  Everything about this Riad exceeded our expectations! The communication with Mohammed right from the moment of booking with a welcome pack until the end of our 3 day holiday. Airport transfer was easy with Ali’s punctual service and we we very warmly greeted by Ishmail & Hussain. Both members of staff were extremely polite & helpful. The Riad was very clean and peaceful with well air conditioned rooms with WiFi and comfortable beds. We were 10 minute walking distance to the Medina and 20 minute drive from the airport. I am so pleased we booked this Riad when there are so many to choose from. We will definitely stay again next time! Thank you to the whole team for a perfect stay.

  Everything about this riad was perfect, the staff are amazing, pleasant, friendly and so accommodating. The location was perfect and close to everything but also very quiet. The pool area was even better than expected and the breakfast was lovely.

  Location was really good. Walking distance to all the places you might want to visit in the medina.
  The riad was peaceful and clean and no cats within the riad.
  The staff were hateful. They were in touch before we arrived. You cannot drive up to the riad. Our taxi driver called and we got help with our suitcases. This was also the case when we were leaving.
  The breakfast was also very nice.
  
  What could be improved: They didn’t have enough charging points in the rooms and there was no option to have breakfast on the rooftop

  The moroccan mint tea welcome was great — just what you want after a plane trip and 38 degree heat! We're very happy with our stay but the main thing to call out is the location. It's a quiet residential street with the medina streets just around the corner. We walked everywhere apart from to the Jardin Majorelle which is a taxi trip. The guys at the riad will sort out everything for you. The breakfast was also a real positive — the authentic moroccan "pancakes"and freshly squeezed orange juice, a nice touch and perfect for us.
  
  What could be improved: There's not much to say here. The whole experience met our expectations and we would recommended it to others. It's a quiet spot with a quiet vibe, so if you're a rowdy family or numerous group, this is not the place for you.

  Thanks for a lovely stay! Mohammed and Hussein and the rest of the team made us so welcome, and were able to organise a great day out into the Ourika Valley for us as well as always being available to help and share tips / advice on what to do while we were with them. Top marks for friendly customer service, we really enjoyed our many chats we had over our stay. The Riad itself is beautiful and really well located to explore the Medina, we loved our time in Marrakech and will be back!

  We had a lovely room on the top floor with a private terrace. It was perfect for travelling with a 3 year old. All the staff were very friendly and incredibly helpful. The riad was beautiful and we loved using the pool. Would highly recommend.
