Riad Dar Benbrahim Overview

You know what struck me first about Riad Dar Benbrahim? It’s tucked away on this narrow derb in Arset Moussa where you’ll honestly question if your taxi driver knows where he’s going. I mean, the address says Derb Jamaa N° 168, but good luck finding visible numbers – it’s Morocco, after all. Once you actually locate it though (and you will, eventually), you realize this slightly confusing approach is exactly what makes it special. The location puts you right in the heart of the medina without being on one of those tourist-heavy streets where you can’t walk ten feet without someone trying to sell you a carpet.

The riad itself has that authentic Moroccan charm that a lot of places try to fake but this one actually pulls off. The traditional architecture feels genuine – not like someone just slapped some tiles on a modern building and called it a day. The courtyard is where you’ll probably spend most of your downtime, and honestly, it’s pretty perfect for that. There’s something about the way the light filters down in the late afternoon that makes you want to just sit there with mint tea for hours. The rooms vary quite a bit in size and character (I’d definitely ask to see yours before settling in), but even the smaller ones have enough traditional details to feel special. The bathroom situation is generally solid, though the hot water can be a bit temperamental – pretty standard for riads in this price range, really.

What I really appreciate about this place is how it strikes that balance between being comfortable for tourists but not completely sanitized. You’re still very much in the medina – you’ll hear the call to prayer, catch whiffs of tagines cooking somewhere nearby, and yeah, it can get a bit noisy during busy periods. But that’s part of the experience, right? The staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood well, which is incredibly helpful when you’re trying to navigate the maze of streets around here. They’ll point you toward the better local spots rather than just the obvious tourist traps. The 8.5 rating makes sense to me – it’s not luxury level (despite the 4-star designation), but it delivers exactly what you’d want from a traditional Moroccan stay without any major disappointments. If you’re looking for a pool or modern amenities, you might want to look elsewhere, but if you want to feel like you’re actually staying in Marrakech rather than just visiting it, this place does the job really well.

Reviews of Riad Dar Benbrahim

  • Great stay, friendly staff – Leylabi from United Kingdom – 28 May 2025 (8/10)

I had a very warm welcome and was able to check in early as requested in advance. The room was spotless and well furnished with a wardrobe. The bathroom had a large shower.

The cleaning service was impeccable and towels were changed and replaced every day as well as bed linen which I didn't necessarily expect for a short stay.

The roof terrace covers two floors and includes sun loungers and a dining / seating area where I had breakfast. The breakfast was fresh and varied a little day to day which was nice.

The location is great, right between the main square and the Jewish quarter. Everything you need is around you while the streets and alleys still feel very local which is great.

    The staff were all great.

What could be improved: There was a mix up with the rooms at first but this was resolved. One thing, that I don't believe features in their house policies profile on booking.com, is that you don't get a front door key. Instead you need to knock to be let in and you need to be back by 1am. This is common in Marrakech just like it is for B&Bs in the UK. Not all dars/riads do this though so I think it should be noted in the house rules just so people know in advance and can make an informed choice.

  • Exceptional – Amanda from Canada – 22 May 2025 (10/10)

The staff was very helpful with any questions or needs we had. For example, booking a taxi at 5am, they helped us get one in advance. They were very kind and made sure we were taken care of. Very kind people!!

  • Beautiful Riad and beautiful staff. – Youssef from Italy – 14 March 2025 (10/10)

The Riad in question is beautiful and the staff and owners (Aladdin and Na3ima) are extremely charming and attentive to the hosts requests and needs, they have also offered tea and sweets without even asking for it. The bathrooms seems to have been recently renewed and the entire Riad and rooms are beautiful, and always clean. Breakfast cost us 50DH (around 5€) each a day because we did not have it integrated in the reservation, but it was absolutely worth it, we rarely finished everything. Position is perfect for reaching the main plaza (Jame3 Lfna) by a small 7/10 minutes walk and from there, you can reach basically any attraction!

What could be improved: Nothing to declare!

  • Amazing stay, highly recommended – Naomi from Netherlands – 14 November 2024 (10/10)

Our stay at Riad Dar Benbrahim was absolutely lovely. The location is great, the room was clean and cozy and the terraces are beautiful. The hosts Alae and Naima are very friendly and helpful and very kind to our baby. also Naima's cooking is amazing. Would highly recommend staying in this Riad.

What could be improved: Too bad we can not give more then 10 stars for a rating, as it highly exceeded our expectations.

  • Fabulous – Robinson from Bermuda – 1 November 2024 (10/10)

  • Best breakfast in Marrakesh – Gareth from United Kingdom – 27 October 2024 (10/10)

This is my favourite Riad in Marrakesh. Naimas breakfast is incredible. served with a winning smile. Alae. front of house was accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. They genuinely want you to enjoy your time in their wonderful country. Already planning my next trip and will definitely be coming back.

What could be improved: Nothing I can think of.

  • Warmest welcome and best breakfast in Marrakesh – Gareth from United Kingdom – 25 October 2024 (10/10)

The warmest of warm welcomes from Alae, front of house, nothing too much trouble. Best breakfast in marrakesh by far, served with a winning smile by the wonderful cook called Naima. Such lovely, genuine people who went out of their way to make our time in Morocco a joyful experience. The location is excellent! Tranquil and easy to find but near the main square with all it's colourful vibrancy and majick. there is a marvellous, 3 tiered terrace withpanoramicviews.. We have been here many times before and will definitely be back.

What could be improved: Can't fault this place
