Riad Dar Hamid Hotel & Spa Overview

You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of riads in Marrakech, and Riad Dar Hamid honestly surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked away in this narrow derb (that’s the local word for alley) in the Laksour area of the medina, and I mean really tucked away – you’ll definitely need those directions they send you beforehand. The medina can be a maze, but once you find derb Ahmer, you’re basically there. The whole approach feels authentically Moroccan, which I loved, though fair warning – if you’re dragging heavy luggage, those cobblestones aren’t your friend.

The riad itself is one of those places that just gets the balance right. It’s got that traditional Moroccan courtyard setup with beautiful tilework and a fountain in the center, but everything feels well-maintained and genuinely luxurious rather than touristy. The spa is actually really good – I mean, you’re not getting some cookie-cutter hotel spa experience here. They use traditional hammam techniques, and honestly, after walking around the souks all day, that steam room hits different. The staff there really knows what they’re doing, and it’s clear they take pride in the traditional treatments. I appreciated that it never felt rushed or commercialized.

What really sold me on this place was the little details that showed someone actually cares about the guest experience. The rooftop terrace has this incredible view over the medina – you can see the Koutoubia minaret in the distance, and during sunset, well, it’s pretty magical. The rooms are decorated with genuine Moroccan craftsmanship, not the mass-produced stuff you sometimes see. Mine had this gorgeous carved wooden ceiling and textiles that felt authentic. The bed was comfortable too, which honestly isn’t always a given in traditional riads. Air conditioning worked perfectly, which you’ll definitely appreciate if you’re visiting during summer – the medina can get seriously hot. The whole place manages to feel both historic and comfortable, if that makes sense. Staff was incredibly helpful with everything from restaurant recommendations to arranging day trips, and they genuinely seemed to know the city well rather than just rattling off tourist spots. It’s about a 10-minute walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa square, which is perfect – close enough to be convenient but far enough that you’re not dealing with the constant noise and crowds. I’d definitely stay here again, and that 9.2 rating makes total sense once you experience it firsthand.

Reviews of Riad Dar Hamid Hotel & Spa

  • Superb – Jingxing from Portugal – 10 July 2025 (9/10)

Great place to stay in Marrakech. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the Riad, and the attentiveness of our host in making sure that we felt comfortable during our stay. Wonderful breakfast.

What could be improved: Wifi was slow and didn't work at times. Lighting in the room was also dim.

  • I would recommend staff are extremely helpful and friendly – David from New Zealand – 10 July 2025 (10/10)

Very nice accommodation quite and peaceful

  • Exceptional – Samuel from Switzerland – 8 July 2025 (10/10)

Fantastic service, great & peaceful included breakfast "a la carte" on the terrasse.
Ioved the family room 2 single & a double very confy beds.

    What could be improved: nothing

  • 1st time in Marrakesh – Heidi from United Kingdom – 3 July 2025 (10/10)

We loved everything about our stay at this beautiful, authentic looking Riad in the centre of everything.
This gorgeous 7 bedroom Riad is tucked away just 1 minute walk from the market/souks. This could not be any more convenient.
All the staff are hardworking and friendly that you feel like you're coming home.
Our room was spacious and had working air-conditioning, which is a must in the Moroccan heat.
Breakfast every morning on the roof terrace with a lovely selection of eggs, fruit, and bread served with juice, tea, or coffee.
Dinner is available at a separate cost, I recommend the beef with Apricot and Prunes different, but it tastes so good.
Now the massages!!! I would definitely go back for done at the perfect pressure to remove tension.

A special thank you to all the staff who made our stay so memorable and enjoyable.
Abdullah, who goes above and beyond for any needs you may have.
Hichan for entertaining my mum in long conversations and to Najat, who gives the best massages in Marrakesh.

What could be improved: I loved everything. However, this Riad is not accessible to those who have difficulty walking.
When you get dropped to the location of the Riad, there is a 5 minute walk from the drop to the location, which isn't so bad if you can walk normally. It's not so great if you're not a stable walker or in a wheelchair. It's possible but not easy.
This Riad does not have a swimming pool, but it does have a small plunge pool for about 7 people.

  • Superb – Francesca from Italy – 30 June 2025 (9/10)

I liked the location, a wonderful and typical riad clean and welcoming. I liked the position: only 5 minutes walking from the crowdy Jeema El Fna.
I really loved the guest: kind and always helpful; he helped to organize alla our trips around town.

What could be improved: Loved it

  • We had the most perfect stay at Riad Dar Hamid and we will certainly be back! – Natalie from United Kingdom – 23 June 2025 (10/10)

The riad was in a perfect location, so close to everything. It was beautiful inside and we had such a warm welcome. The communal areas were great to spend time in and the room was immaculate and cool. My children loved cooling off in the pool after exploring.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Great location and a relaxing stay – Phil from Portugal – 18 June 2025 (9/10)

Staff were great, the whole team are wonderful and very helpful. We were made very welcome.

What could be improved: Some noise at night from room above, walking across the room many times at midnight. Pool filter could be run more often

  • Exceptional – Natasha from United States – 4 June 2025 (10/10)

Wonderful place, immaculate rooms and bathrooms, fabulous service, super comfy beds.
They even packed us a breakfast to go since we left very early.
If I ever go back to Marrakech, this is where I'll stay.
The host was very helpful and so nice with us.
I have only great things to say about this place. Highly recommended.

  • Magnificent riad with great location. – Yilin from France – 28 May 2025 (10/10)

Very close to the Jamaa El-Fna place, but hidden in a quite small street. The courtyard is absolutely stunning. We spent much of our stay sitting there, drinking tea and listening to birds sing.
Lovely breakfast on the rooftop, with the company of cute cats. Staffs are friendly and very helpful.
Our room on the ground floor is beautiful! With super high ceiling, coloured windows and traditionally walled bathroom.

What could be improved: It can feel a bit dark in the room during day time – perhaps because it’s so bright outside. During our four day stay there was one morning there was no hot water but that’s all.

  • Great place – Rebekah from United Kingdom – 26 May 2025 (10/10)

Excellent service, staff willing to help thank you abdelah for everything you did for me
