Riad Dar Mchicha Overview
So you know how you picture a “traditional Moroccan riad” in your head? Well, Riad Dar Mchicha is actually that – but in the best possible way, not the touristy knockoff version you sometimes stumble into. Tucked away on Derb El Farrane (and honestly, good luck finding it without getting lost at least once), this place sits right in the heart of the medina’s maze-like streets. The thing is, once you’re inside those heavy wooden doors, all that medina chaos just… disappears. There’s this incredible courtyard with intricate tilework that catches the morning light perfectly, and I mean, you can actually hear the fountain over the street noise, which is saying something in Marrakech.
What really got me was how they’ve managed to keep the authentic feel without sacrificing comfort – and I’m someone who usually needs my creature comforts. The rooms have these gorgeous traditional ceilings and proper air conditioning (trust me, you’ll want that), plus the beds are actually comfortable, not just pretty to look at. The staff here really knows their stuff too; they’ll draw you little maps to navigate the souks and actually remember your name after day one. I stayed during shoulder season in October, and the rooftop terrace was perfect for evening mint tea – you get these glimpses of the Atlas Mountains in the distance when the light hits just right. The breakfast spread is solid (though honestly, step outside and grab some fresh bread from the bakery around the corner on Riad Laarousse for the full experience).
Here’s the thing about the location – yes, you’re deep in the medina, which means narrow streets and the occasional moped weaving past your shoulder. But you’re also a genuine five-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa square, and more importantly, you’re in the real neighborhood where locals actually live and shop. The little grocery store two streets over has better prices than anything near the main square, and there’s this hammam that locals use just a few doors down. The 8.9 rating makes sense when you consider that this isn’t trying to be a resort – it’s trying to be an authentic riad experience, and it actually pulls it off. Fair warning though: if you’re the type who needs to drive right up to your hotel door, this isn’t your place. You’ll be walking the last bit through the medina streets, but honestly? That’s part of the charm.

Reviews of Riad Dar Mchicha
Cute – Andrea from Spain – 27 June 2025 (10/10)
Very cute place, equipped with all you needed. Comfortable beds and nice towels. Very nice breakfast.
What could be improved: The bathroom is outside the room, but you have the whole floor to yourself, so it wasn't really an inconvenience.Affordable, traditional and pretty. – Amalia from France – 21 June 2025 (9/10)
Very good value for money. Nice and traditional riad and amazing staff.
Good room with a big and comfortable bed, A/C and very well located.
The host was extremely kind, she offered free tea and biscuits for the entire stay and she even kept our luggage for few days.
I really recommend this as it s a very good value for money and you are in the middle of everything (shops, square for taxis and markets)
What could be improved: The A/C was working well but it was quite noisy.A lovely unique place, not a 5 star resort, but great value and amazing host. – Jill from Canada – 12 June 2025 (9/10)
OMayma was an amazing host. She was very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was excellent. When we wanted it early, there was no problem. She did our laundry without any charge.
We had a large, nice room. The shower had good pressure and hot water. It was nice to be a little away from the hustle and bustle of the main square.
When going upstairs, we found the inconsistency in step height to be charming and fun, but it could be a problem for others.Exceptional – Natalia from Czech Republic – 6 June 2025 (10/10)
It is a great place to stay in Marrakesh, a true island of quiet in the middle of the city's madness. The hosts were exceptionally kind and helpful. I highly recommend ordering breakfast here, you won't regret it. If we are back in Marrakesh, we'll definitely choose this place again. No jokes, it was one of the best experiences in Morocco in general.

What could be improved: Nothing!Exceptional – Muaz from Turkey – 15 February 2025 (10/10)
The woman working helped us with whatever we needed for 3 days. It's a quiet place, around 15-20 minutes away from the square on foot.
