Riad Dar Nakous Overview

You know what actually surprised me about Riad Dar Nakous? The silence. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of the medina on Derb Nakous – which, honestly, I kept mispronouncing until the third day – but once you step through that heavy wooden door, it’s like someone hit a mute button on all the chaos outside. The whole place is built around this gorgeous central courtyard with a fountain that makes just enough noise to drown out the occasional motorbike honking from Riad Zitoun Jdid.

The rooms are properly Moroccan without feeling like a theme park, if you know what I mean. Real zellige tiles, actual carved plaster work, and – this is important – air conditioning that actually works. I stayed there in late May when Marrakech was already getting pretty warm, and honestly, I was worried about the heat. But the thick walls and traditional architecture keep things surprisingly cool during the day, and the AC handles the rest. The staff genuinely knows their stuff too – not just the generic tourist recommendations, but real insights. Like, they told me the best time to visit the Saadian Tombs (early morning, before the tour groups) and which entrance to use at Jemaa el-Fnaa to avoid the aggressive henna ladies (come from the Koutoubia side, trust me).

What really gets me is how this place manages to feel both authentic and comfortable. The breakfast spread on the rooftop terrace is ridiculous – fresh orange juice, about six different types of bread, and this honey that I’m pretty sure was made by bees living their best life somewhere in the Atlas Mountains. You can see the Koutoubia minaret from up there, and honestly, watching the city wake up while drinking proper mint tea is worth the price of admission alone. The location is pretty perfect too – you’re deep enough in the medina to feel like you’re experiencing the real deal, but it’s only about a ten-minute walk to the main square (though good luck finding your way back without the map they give you – those derbs all look the same after dark). Fair warning though: the WiFi in the rooms is sort of hit or miss, but it’s solid in the common areas. And if you’re coming with big suitcases, just know that the narrow streets mean you’ll be doing some maneuvering to get them to the entrance. But really, for a 4-star riad with a 9.5 rating, these are pretty minor complaints. This place gets the balance right between giving you that authentic Marrakech experience and making sure you sleep well at night.

  • A Home Away from Home – Elena from Romania – 19 June 2025 (10/10)

We stayed in Marrakech for five nights across different Riads, and for the value, this was by far the best! The location is perfect, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, the food is delicious, and the staff is incredibly welcoming. But most importantly—the cleanliness was outstanding! If you're considering where to stay, look no further. This Riad truly has it all. Highly recommended!

Special thanks to Ismail – our perfect host!!!

Breakfast on the rooftop was wonderful. Very quiet location. Staff were very friendly and accommodating for anything you needed.

What could be improved: It’s in the heart of the Medina of Marrakesh so a bit of a walk to get to.

  • Exceptional – Kenneth from Australia – 17 May 2025 (10/10)

We spent 4 nights at Riad Dar Nakous and it was very comfortable and spacious. It was beautifully furnished with everything we needed and a very comfortable and clean bed. It is in a very central location, however it was very quiet in the room to allow for proper rest.

All of the staff were very helpful and friendly and always willing to share recommendations and tips during our stay in Marrakech. They truly looked after us and we enjoyed our exchanges between them 😊 They also helped us organise our taxi ride to the airport and helped us with our luggage upon departure which was very helpful.

    Highly recommend!

What could be improved: Nothing 🙂

  • Fantastic location, stylish rooms, amazing staff – Joseph from United Kingdom – 1 May 2025 (10/10)

We had a fabulous stay in Riad Dar Nakous – Karim and the team were brilliant and went the extra mile to make us feel at home right away. The Riad is an oasis of calm tucked away from the busy streets – rooms are stylish and absolutely spotless. The roof terrace is a lovely both in during the day and in the evening and we’d recommend the airport transfer organised by the Riad. Overall a 10/10 property!

    What could be improved: Nothing!

  • Perfect, clean and beautiful Moroccan Riad. – Emina from Bosnia and Herzegovina – 29 April 2025 (10/10)

Everything was perfect! The hospitality, cleanliness, overall style of the interior, breakfast, location.. I could not recommend this enough.

  • Well located riad with outstanding bed comfort. – Bob from United States – 28 April 2025 (9/10)

Riad Dar Nakous is very nicely located. Even though its in the medina, it is very near taxi cabs and shuttles.
We found the bed to be quite large and very comfortable. We have stayed in scores of properties over the years and bed comfort is a very high priority. This one did not disappoint!
Staff was very attentive. Especially Kareem who catered to our every need, especially meal preparation.
    We would stay here again.

What could be improved: There was no desk or other place to set up a laptop.
