Riad Dar Yema Overview
You know what? I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first walked down Derb Jdid looking for Riad Dar Yema – honestly, the narrow streets in this part of Dabachi can be pretty confusing, even with GPS. But once you find that unassuming wooden door (and trust me, you’ll walk past it at least once), you’re in for something special. The whole area feels authentically Marrakech without being touristy, which is getting harder to find these days.
The riad itself is one of those places that just gets everything right. I mean, the traditional architecture is gorgeous – those hand-carved details and the central courtyard with its fountain actually work to keep things cool during those brutal afternoon hours. What really impressed me though was how they’ve managed to blend the old-world charm with modern comfort. The rooms are spacious by medina standards, and the beds are actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how many riads skimp on this). The bathrooms have proper water pressure too, which… well, if you’ve stayed in the medina before, you know why that matters.
The staff here really know their stuff about Marrakech. They’ll tell you which hammams are worth your time, where to get the best tagine without paying tourist prices, and – this was clutch – how to navigate back through the souks without getting completely turned around. The breakfast spread is pretty fantastic too, served up on the rooftop terrace where you can actually see the Atlas Mountains on clear mornings. I’d recommend getting up there early though, before the city heat kicks in. The location puts you right in the heart of things but on a quieter side street, so you’re not dealing with constant scooter noise at night. It’s maybe a ten-minute walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa if you want the full circus experience, but far enough away that you can actually sleep. The 9.5 rating honestly makes sense – it’s that rare combination of authentic character, genuine hospitality, and attention to detail that makes you want to come back to Marrakech just to stay here again.

Reviews of Riad Dar Yema
Great experience and I would recommend this Riad. – Hafizullah from Canada – 3 July 2025 (10/10)
The property was very nice and well maintained. The best part of the experience was the staff at the Riad. They were very helpful and went out of their way to make sure that our stay was comfortable and assisted us with our needs.
What could be improved: Nothing comes to mind.Exceptional – Elena from United Kingdom – 4 June 2025 (10/10)
The staff were super friendly and helpful. The interior looked amazing and was beautifully decorated. The rooftop was the perfect spot for relaxation. The location was excellent, very close to major attractions. Overall very satisfied and would recommend!!
Fabulous find for a beautiful comfortable stay in the Medina close to everything – Elizabeth from Ireland – 29 May 2025 (9/10)
Beautiful little spot in the heart of the Medina. Went above and beyond for dietary requirements, providing gluten free pastries. Incredible staff who were very helpful and kind. The Hammam and Massage is absolutely fabulous, highly recommend! (With a friend, unsure if I'd do it by myself).
Very fast responses to queries online before and during the stay.
I wish I'd gone up to the roof as it looked beautiful, but sore legs after hiking!
They gifted us a kit of facial care stuff when leaving, a lovely last touch. And the bathroom provides nice toiletries (good for light travellers!). Great aircon as well.
Would definitely stay again!
What could be improved: I feel the swimming pool should probably be renamed, it's more so a pond in the centre of a lot of tables!
Shower pressure was low.An oasis in a busy city, with the most welcoming team who treat you like family. Highly recommend! – Rebecca from United Kingdom – 18 May 2025 (10/10)
Exceptionally friendly and welcoming team, in a gorgeous setting. Breakfast was wonderful.
What could be improved: I liked it all!a little oasis among the hustle and bustle of Marrakesh. – Veeveeaene from Thailand – 13 May 2025 (8/10)
The riad itself is very cute and well decorated! it's so different from the streets of marrakesh.
The old men was very friendly, helped with lugguages and always has a smile on his face.
What could be improved: The main staff could have been friendlier.
The breakfast should have some meat; it was mainly carbs. Also the breakfast was the same over different days.
The transfer organised by the riad was alright; however, after arriving at the airport, the chauffer asked for extra 200 MAD, even though I have paid at the Riad and have confirmed there are no extra fees. Saying things like "chauffer" "driving", which left a sour taste.
Hammam was barely 30 minutes instead of the promised hour, they just poured water over my friend's head without actually washing it after.
The location of the riad is also a bit secluded so it's a bit scary when we go back in the evening.A beautiful and peaceful place to rest and recharge. – Philip from United Kingdom – 4 May 2025 (10/10)
There has been a lot of thought put into the design and finish of the decor, and the riad is finished to a high standard, and living up to the photos. It's a wonderful place to escape the noise of the medina and recharge.
What could be improved: If you are a first time traveller to the backstreets of the Medina. the approach to the riad can seem intimidating. In reality its all in your head, and it leads to a very quiet location and opens into this wonderful peaceful riad away from the endless noise of main streets. An unexpected stay – warmly welcomed – Laetitia from Switzerland – 29 April 2025 (10/10)
We ended up at Riad Dar Yema unexpectedly after our flight was cancelled late at night – exhausted, frustrated, and honestly not in the best mood. Despite that, Aziz welcomed us with incredible kindness and patience, helped us calm down, and made us feel safe and cared for.
He even offered us breakfast the next morning, although we hadn’t booked it. That small gesture meant a lot after a chaotic travel day.
The Riad itself is quiet, clean, and charming – the perfect place to reset.
We didn’t get to say goodbye to Aziz before leaving, but we truly appreciated his warmth.
Thank you for your hospitality – we won’t forget it.A typical Riad with all you need, in the heart of the Medina – Ricardo from Brazil – 21 April 2025 (10/10)
Great breakfast, nice location (but it has some issues) and a very helpful staff. The Riad is beautiful and has a good value for your money.
What could be improved: It is well-located, in the heart of the Medina, but the problem is also that it is in the heart of the Medina. Let me explain this contradiction: for a young couple it is ok to stay at the Riad because it is near everything in the Medina and you get used to all the noise and crowds that makes the Medina such a special place. But it is not easy to reach carrying bags and I wouldn't recommend it to older couples or families with toddlers. Otherwise, it is an incredible place and it was a terrific stay for us.Incredible Riad with a very homey welcoming feel. – Alessia from United Kingdom – 20 April 2025 (10/10)
Very clean and beautifully designed. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and gave us the opportunity to learn about Moroccan culture. We enjoyed the Hammam and couples massage, both were incredible – we highly recommend! Aziz was a fantastic host – we look forward to coming back again soon.
What could be improved: Nothing we loved itFantastic stay in the heart of Marrakesh – Laird from United Kingdom – 18 April 2025 (10/10)
What a great riad just off the main road into the square easy to find and right next to loads of attractions. Stay here if you want the fast pace of Marrakesh.
Breakfast of great and Azziz and the girls are breakfast are amazing and breakfast if fantastic.
Azziz was also great with our toddler and she really took a shine to him and literally just asked about him at home.
Great riad recommend to everyone.
Nice rooftop to relax with nice sun loungers.
