Riad Doum Collection 2 Overview

You know, I’ve stayed in a lot of riads in Marrakech over the years, but Riad Doum Collection 2 honestly caught me off guard – and I mean that in the best way possible. The location on Derb Jdid is perfect if you actually want to experience the medina without feeling like you’re trapped in a tourist bubble. It’s tucked away in Riad Zitoun Lakdim, which locals will tell you is one of the quieter quarters, but you’re still only about a ten-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa (though honestly, who’s counting when you’re wandering through those winding alleys?). The thing is, finding it the first time can be a bit tricky – these derbs all look similar when you’re wheeling your suitcase behind you – but that’s half the charm, isn’t it?

What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail that you don’t usually get at this price point. The traditional architecture feels authentic rather than staged for Instagram, if that makes sense. The courtyard has this beautiful fountain that actually works (you’d be surprised how many riads have decorative ones that are bone dry), and the sound of water trickling really does help mask the occasional call to prayer or late-night chatter from the neighbors. The rooms themselves are spacious by medina standards – I mean, you can actually open your suitcase without having to move furniture around. The beds are comfortable, which honestly can be hit-or-miss in traditional riads where sometimes style trumps comfort. Air conditioning works well too, which you’ll definitely appreciate during those sweltering July afternoons.

The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work, not just checking boxes. They’ll arrange airport transfers without trying to overcharge you, and – this is important – they actually know the medina well enough to give you directions that make sense. I’ve had hosts before who clearly lived in Gueliz and treated the old city like a maze they’d never figured out themselves. The breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace, and while it’s not elaborate, it’s fresh and filling. Plus, the view gives you a real sense of the medina’s layout, which helps when you’re trying to navigate later. The only minor thing I’d mention is that sound does carry a bit between rooms, so if you’re a light sleeper, maybe pack some earplugs. But honestly, that’s pretty standard for these old buildings with their thick walls and interior courtyards. What impressed me most was how clean everything was – the bathrooms especially, which can be a real concern in older properties. This place manages to feel authentically Moroccan while still meeting the practical needs of modern travelers, and that balance is harder to achieve than you might think.

Reviews of Riad Doum Collection 2

  • A home from home in a vastly foreign land. Very privileged to have stayed here and will stay again if travelling as a fa – Rachel from United Kingdom – 24 February 2025 (10/10)

Smart, newly built, modern decor, comfortable beds and living spaces.

Unlike a traditional style riad, it is more of a private home (think of an Airbnb entire home listing) with a single housekeeper who attends daily from breakfast till afternoon. So, you get the best of both worlds: a fully private home stay with catering/daily housekeeping.

Thank you Hennen, for looking after us every morning, preparing a wonderful breakfast of fresh fruit and fresh pastries. We loved the evening meal you made us when we arrived on our late afternoon flight. Thank you for tidying up after us and our two little children, and for sorting out our laundry which is very helpful for me! We wish you the very best.

Hamman towels are provided for pool use so you don’t need to pack swimming towels.

Pool heating at an extra daily charge which we wish we requested but were too unplanned to get it organised. This didn’t stop us using the pool though!

What could be improved: Overall, nothing that I didn’t like.

The neighbouring restaurant has rooftop dining. They play music throughout their opening hours which is 11-11 which can be heard in the house. Overall it’s a lowish volume but on one very rainy night, their volume was fairly loud possibly because they were dining inside so the music was being transmitted through the walls.

This wouldn’t stop me from staying here again though.

As you are the sole occupiers of this home overnight, this might not suit visitors who prefers the presence of staff members onsite, overnight.
