Riad Emberiza Sahari Overview

You know what struck me first about Riad Emberiza Sahari? The silence. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of the medina – just off Derb Khoshba in Zaouia El Abbassia – but once you step through those heavy wooden doors, it’s like someone hit the mute button on all that beautiful chaos outside. The soundproofing in these old riads is honestly something else, though you’ll still catch the call to prayer drifting over the courtyard walls at dawn (which, let’s be honest, is part of the whole experience).

The location is actually perfect if you know how to navigate the medina’s maze-like streets. You’re a genuine five-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa – though good luck finding your way back the first few times without the staff’s hand-drawn map. The narrow alleyways around here are where you’ll find the locals doing their shopping, not the tourist-heavy souks closer to the main square. There’s this tiny bread bakery about thirty steps from the riad’s entrance where families bring their tagines to cook in the communal oven – the smell alone is worth the trip. What really sets this place apart is how they’ve restored the traditional architecture without making it feel like a museum. The zellij tilework in the central courtyard is gorgeous, sure, but they’ve also figured out modern touches that actually work – the Wi-Fi is solid (even up on the rooftop terrace), and the bathrooms have proper water pressure, which… well, anyone who’s stayed in a budget riad knows that’s not always a given.

The staff here genuinely knows their stuff about Marrakech. Not just the obvious tourist spots, but they’ll point you toward that hammam where locals actually go, or explain which spice vendor in the souk won’t try to sell you saffron that’s actually just colored threads. Hassan at the front desk grew up in this neighborhood – he’s the one who taught me that the best mint tea in the quarter comes from a café so small it doesn’t even have a sign. The rooftop situation deserves a mention too. Most riads have decent terraces, but this one faces west toward the Atlas Mountains, and on clear days (which is most days, honestly), the sunset views are pretty spectacular. It gets busy up there around 6 PM when everyone’s trying to catch the golden hour, but if you head up earlier with a book, you’ll have the place to yourself. They serve tea and pastries up there too – nothing fancy, just good, simple stuff that tastes even better when you’re looking out over the red city’s rooftops.

Reviews of Riad Emberiza Sahari

  • An oasis in the middle of the Medina, with the sweetest staff and most beautiful property. – Aaqib from Canada – 27 June 2025 (10/10)

Beautiful pool, incredibly helpful and friendly staff, amazing breakfast and food. Our favourite place to stay in Marrakesh.

What could be improved: Nothing, it was perfect!

  • Incredible stay at the most beautiful and green riad – Monica from Romania – 15 June 2025 (10/10)

Though the trip to it was a bit intimidating, once we’ve arrived, I felt very relaxed and happy. The staff were super welcoming and the riad itself is incredibly beautiful with many spots for hanging out and resting (in shade, away from the heat)

What could be improved: The streets in all of Marrakesh are a bit intimidating at times, but once we got used to it, it was fine

  • Exceptional – Saba from United Kingdom – 28 May 2025 (10/10)

This riad is the most beautiful place and we are so happy that we stayed here during our time in Marrakesh! The staff were amazing and we loved coming back here to the peace and quiet from a busy day in the medina – if you’re thinking of booking just do it! You will not regret it x

  • Amazing stay. Would recommend – Maria from United Kingdom – 20 May 2025 (10/10)

  • Fabulous riad. By far the better of the two riads we stayed in. I'd highly recommend staying here. – Stewart from United Kingdom – 15 May 2025 (9/10)

Fab riad, wonderful ambience, very nice staff and a delicious healthy breakfast. I'd highly recommend staying here.

  • Moroccan hospitality at it's best – Highly recommended – Cousins from Ireland – 5 May 2025 (10/10)

Fantastic place – brilliant location, beautiful, calm, spotless room, pool area and roof terrace. Delicious food – both breakfast and dinner. The stand out was the wonderful staff. Yunnis, Ibrahim and team provided a lovely welcome, great advice and we felt very well cared throughout our visit – true Moroccan hospitality.

What could be improved: Loved everything

  • Excellent – Kay from United Kingdom – 4 May 2025 (10/10)

An oasis of calm. Excellent hospitality

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Incredible! – Birgit from Germany – 3 May 2025 (10/10)

I normally have no tendency towards sentimental exaggeration. But when I was sitting (having breakfast) under the fragrant orange tree in awesome Riad Emberiza Sahari, taking in the atmosphere, looking at the potted palmtree and the gorgeous white curtains, both swaying gently in the wind – I was believing that I was in heaven!
Having travelled the world and stayed at the most marvellous accomodations I am now convinced that Riad Emberiza Sahari is in a class of its own. I have never experienced a warmer welcome. All the staff are just lovely.
My room was not only very beautiful, tasteful and comfy, it gave me a feeling like it wanted to embrace me and gently rock me to the best sleep EVER at night. The furniture, the cosy bathroom with the fragrant shower gel, the cute white poufs, the fabulous lamps, the superb decoration…. I loved everything!
Breakfast was splendid, its quality way above usual Moroccan breakfasts, and all my other breakfasts on my Morocco trips already were fantastic! When I told the lovely guy that THIS crêpe had been the best I had ever eaten, he came back in no time with the most affectionate smile to serve me a second crêpe! And this was only one of the many wonderful moments at the Riad.
As I have been to Marrakesh several times it was not really my intention to visit again, I assumed. But when, after checkout, I asked if I could stay for 10 more minutes or so on the roof terrace and was told I could stay for ten hours or so I had already been sure for quite some time that I would visit Marrakesh again – simply to stay at Riad Emberiza Sahari again! A huge thank you and many hugs to all the lovely people working there for the happiness of their guests!

What could be improved: Nothing, everything is just perfect!

  • 1000% would recommend and will 1000% be going back – Aliénor from Switzerland – 1 May 2025 (10/10)

Amazing personnel, the staff was so attentive and nice. The cook is amazing too, she makes the best food.

  • Beautiful riad in a busy city that makes you feel welcome – Shalini from United Kingdom – 28 April 2025 (10/10)

Everything. From the minute you enter. The ambience and hospitality makes you feel relaxed and happy. The hosts treat you like guests. The rooms are super comfortable and bright and airy.

What could be improved: The distance is slightly away from the square and main souks but sometimes you have to walk along a busy road to get back
