Look, I’ve stayed in my fair share of riads in Marrakech, but Riad Fisaline honestly caught me off guard – and that’s saying something after you’ve been jaded by too many “authentic” places that feel like they’re trying too hard. This one sits tucked away on Derb Sidi Mbarek, which is actually perfect because you’re close enough to hear the evening call to prayer from nearby mosques but far enough from the main tourist drags that you won’t have groups of lost travelers wandering past your door at all hours.
The whole “en exclusivité” thing in the name isn’t just marketing fluff – they really do treat you like you’ve got the run of the place. I mean, the staff genuinely remembers how you like your mint tea (strong, barely sweet) and which corner of the courtyard you prefer for breakfast. Speaking of the courtyard, it’s one of those spaces that makes you understand why riads became a thing in the first place. The morning light filters down through the opening just right, and there’s this gorgeous interplay between the traditional zellige tilework and these more modern touches they’ve added without making it feel like a design magazine threw up everywhere. You know what really got me though? The sound. Most riads either echo like crazy or feel dead quiet in a weird way, but this place has this perfect acoustic balance where you can hear the fountain bubbling and maybe some distant street sounds, but conversations stay intimate.
The rooms themselves – well, they’ve clearly put thought into the details that actually matter. The beds are properly comfortable (not just pretty), the bathroom has decent water pressure, and honestly, the air conditioning works without sounding like a jet engine. I stayed during one of those brutal July weeks when Marrakech turns into an oven, and I was genuinely comfortable. The location is clutch too – you’re maybe a ten-minute walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa if you want the chaos, but you can also duck into the mellah (the old Jewish quarter) or find those little neighborhood cafés where locals actually hang out. The staff helped me find this amazing little bakery around the corner that I never would have discovered on my own. One small thing worth mentioning: if you’re arriving late, let them know ahead of time because these medina streets can be tricky to navigate in the dark, and GPS basically gives up once you’re in the narrow alleys. But honestly, that’s part of the charm – you’re staying in a real neighborhood, not some sanitized tourist bubble.

– Celine from France – 8 May 2024 (10/10)
