Riad Flam & Spa Overview

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked down Derb Sidi Moussa – honestly, these narrow medina alleys all start to look the same after a while, and finding the right doorway can be a bit of a treasure hunt. But once you step through Riad Flam’s heavy wooden door, it’s like someone hit the pause button on all that beautiful chaos outside. The first thing that hits you is how quiet it gets – I mean, you’re still in the heart of the medina, just a few minutes’ walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa, but somehow the courtyard just swallows all that street noise. The traditional architecture is gorgeous (those carved plaster details are the real deal), but what I really loved was how they’ve managed to keep it authentic without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum.

The spa part isn’t just a marketing afterthought either – they’ve got this hammam that actually knows what it’s doing, which is rarer than you’d think in some of these riad conversions. I spent a good chunk of one afternoon there, and honestly, after navigating the souks all morning, it was exactly what I needed. The rooftop terrace is where you’ll probably end up spending your evenings though – there’s something about having mint tea up there while watching the sun set over the Atlas Mountains that just works. You can see the Koutoubia Mosque from up there too, which means you’ll hear the call to prayer, but trust me, it becomes part of the rhythm pretty quickly. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a well-run riad – traditional tadelakt walls, decent air conditioning (crucial in summer), and those gorgeous Moroccan textiles everywhere. Some of the bathrooms are a bit snug, but that’s pretty standard for these old buildings, and the trade-off is worth it for the character.

What really sets this place apart is the staff – they actually seem to know Marrakech beyond just the tourist spots. When I asked about finding a good place for couscous on Friday (you know, where the locals go), they didn’t just point me toward some overpriced restaurant in Gueliz. They sent me to this little place near Bab Doukkala that I never would have found on my own. The location in Riad Zitoune Jdid is pretty ideal too – you’re close enough to the main square that you can walk there in about five minutes, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the constant hustle of touts and street performers. Plus, if you’re planning to explore the Bahia Palace or the Saadian Tombs, you’re practically on their doorstep. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if you’re looking for that authentic medina experience without sacrificing comfort. Just remember to pack light – these old streets weren’t designed for wheeled luggage, and your taxi will drop you off at the edge of the pedestrian zone.

Reviews of Riad Flam & Spa

  • Wonderful Riad – Alma from United States – 10 July 2025 (9/10)

Great staff, very diligent, attentive, and prompt to respond to all our needs. Hussein was above and beyond excellence! Breakfast was delicious, and a large variety of cooked on-site yogurt, omelets, fruit, cakes, bread, delicious coffee, milk, juice, mint tea, cheese, pan cakes, etc.
Wonderful building architecture and ample room on the ground floor with safety box and A/C. Great water pressure!

What could be improved: All Riads in the center of Marrakech aren't accessible by car. So, you have to walk to the nearest access point for vehicles to meet your tour driver. Inconvenient and sometimes confusing as where to meet, walk, and also you can get mixed up with other tours. Be aware and DO NOT move from your meeting point. Tour people are good contacting you by WhatsApp.

  • A very pleasant stay. Would recommend to anyone. – Zhou from United States – 14 May 2025 (10/10)

Beautiful property and super nice staff. Close to

What could be improved: A little bit inconvenience for seniors, given that there is a few minutes walk from the taxi drop off or pick up and there is no elevator. But the staff is super friendly and helpful to minimize the inconvenience.

  • A lovely quiet place to stay in the centre of Marrakesh – Roger from United Kingdom – 14 May 2025 (8/10)

A very good location for the Medina and Souks despite being a stones throw from this very busy area. You entered calm and tranquility. The roof tope terrace was lovely too.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • This RIAD is a DREAM!!!! – Niranjan from India – 12 May 2025 (10/10)

I went into this trip thinking RIAD was some chain of hotels (like Hilton, etc) but was happily surprised to realise it was an architectural style oh homes in Marrakech. RIAD Flam was an absolute dream. It is inside the Medina and perfectly distanced from the Jema al Fnaa (main marketsquare) to not be a hindrance to get to in and out. The decor and design of the RIAD was stunning, I had no idea that the outer facade was hiding such a gem inside. Food was excellent and the spa services we partook of were fantastic and we were extremely happy. The staff were able to help us with bookings for excursions which we thoroughly enjoyed.
I have to leave a special note for the Staff that made this stay what it was. Issam, Hussein and the ladies in the kitchen and spa were incredible – courteous, friendly and attentive to our needs. I felt sad on our last day because I would not be able to spend more time with this lovely group of people. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
To anyone reading this review, I highly recommend this RIAD. We will be coming back and staying with them for sure.
