RIAD GJULJA Overview
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked down Derb Saka – honestly, it’s one of those narrow alleyways in the medina where you’re pretty sure you’ve taken a wrong turn somewhere. But then you spot the discreet entrance to Riad Gjulja, and suddenly you get it. This place is tucked away in Riad Zitoun el Kdim, which means you’re deep enough in the medina to feel authentically Moroccan but not so far that you’ll spend an hour finding your way back from Jemaa el-Fnaa.
The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm – I mean, the contrast from the bustling streets outside is pretty dramatic. The traditional riad layout works exactly like it’s supposed to, with that central courtyard acting as this perfect retreat where you can actually hear yourself think. What I really appreciated was how they’ve kept the authentic architectural details (the zellige tilework is gorgeous, by the way) without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. The rooms have character – some quirks too, which honestly adds to the charm rather than detracting from it. The rooftop terrace is where you’ll probably spend your evenings, and the view over the medina rooftops toward the Atlas Mountains is… well, it’s the kind of thing that makes you understand why people fall in love with Marrakech.
Here’s what actually matters though – the staff genuinely know the neighborhood. They’ll point you toward the little bakery around the corner that locals use (not the tourist traps), and they’re realistic about timing when you’re trying to navigate the souks. The location means you can walk to pretty much everything that matters in the medina, but you’re on a quieter side street so you’re not dealing with constant scooter traffic right outside your door. Check-in was smooth, and they’re flexible about luggage storage if you’re arriving early or leaving late. Look, it’s not going to be the most luxurious place you’ve ever stayed, but it nails that sweet spot between authentic atmosphere and actual comfort. Plus, at an 8.7 rating, other travelers clearly agree – and honestly, that feels about right for what you’re getting here.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The rooms are very clean, and when I asked to change my room because the previous one felt a bit stuffy, the staff responded immediately and helped me without any delay. Wonderful hospitality, the staff was very helpful – assisting and setting up taxi rides for us for pick ups from and to the airport and train station. The place is beautiful with a great rooftop area to sit and relax. We loved our stay!

What could be improved: The room was quite humidExceptional – Russell from United States – 27 April 2025 (10/10)
Awesome experience all around while traveling abroad.
What could be improved: Just make sure you put the name of the Riad in google maps and not the address. The address takes you to a different location. Make sure you get plenty of cash at the airport as they take a city tax only in cash!Very good – Spiros from Greece – 16 April 2025 (8/10)
The owner was very friendly , helpful and polite. The riad is in the best location possible , in the heart of the center yet very quiet. Room was a bit small and there was no bathroom door which was something we were not used to.
