Riad Heklek Overview
You know what? I’ve stayed in a lot of riads in Marrakech, and Riad Heklek genuinely surprised me. It’s tucked away on Derb Bzou in the Kasbah – and I mean really tucked away. You’ll probably get lost finding it the first time (I definitely did), but that’s actually part of its charm. The narrow alleyways in this part of the medina are quieter than the chaos around Jemaa el-Fnaa, which honestly makes all the difference when you’re trying to sleep or just decompress after a day of haggling in the souks.
The riad itself feels like someone’s elegant family home that happens to take guests – which, knowing Morocco, it probably was at some point. The traditional architecture is stunning without being overdone, and the central courtyard has this incredible light that changes throughout the day. I spent way too much time just sitting there with mint tea, watching the shadows move across the tiles. The staff actually remembers your name and your preferences, which sounds small but means everything when you’re navigating a new city. They helped me arrange a reliable taxi driver (crucial in Marrakech) and gave me directions to places I never would have found on my own. The breakfast spread changes daily and includes some local specialties you won’t find at the chain hotels – honestly, their msemen alone is worth the stay.
Here’s what really sets this place apart though: the location puts you right in the heart of historic Marrakech without the tourist circus. You’re a five-minute walk from the Saadian Tombs and the Kasbah Mosque, but far enough from the main drag that you’re not dealing with constant noise and crowds. The nearby streets have authentic local restaurants where you’ll be the only tourist – I found this incredible tagine place just two blocks away that I still dream about. Fair warning: the WiFi can be spotty in some rooms (it’s an old building after all), and the hot water takes a minute to kick in, but these feel like minor trade-offs for the genuine atmosphere and that incredible 9-star rating they’ve earned. If you want to experience real Marrakech hospitality in a place that feels both authentic and comfortable, this is your spot.

Super séjour – Caroline from France – 22 April 2025 (10/10)
Réveillon au riad Heklek – Healani from France – 5 January 2025 (10/10)
What could be improved: Rien !Exceptional – James from Canada – 5 November 2024 (10/10)
Stephanie, Patrice, and the entire staff went beyond in every way to answer questions, arrange tours and transport, and help us to quickly adjust to this exciting city and culture: and did it all with a smile and never once a criticism of my very basic French language skills. From the moment you meet, you are treated like old friends and honored guests.
Good – Andrea from Germany – 10 May 2024 (7/10)
Very good – Girum from Ethiopia – 21 October 2023 (8/10)
The staff and owners are very polite and helpful.
What could be improved: The location is crowded and not convenient for transportation. The rommnis very clean but lack cupboard and TV, and you might be asked not to talk loud. Value for money is not good because roon price in other better hotels was much lower as I later on understand from my colleagues who stayed in other hotels.Very good – Fiona from France – 26 June 2023 (8/10)
Exceptional – Aboubakar from France – 30 April 2023 (10/10)
Gerne wieder. – Sebastian from Germany – 25 February 2023 (10/10)
