Riad Hôtel Marraplace Overview
Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of riads in Marrakech, but Riad Hôtel Marraplace actually gets it right in ways that surprised me. The moment you duck through that heavy wooden door on rue Sidi Bouloukat – and honestly, you’ll probably walk past it twice because these medina entrances are basically invisible – you’re hit with this immediate sense of calm that’s pretty rare in the Zitoune Lakdim area. I mean, you’re still hearing the call to prayer from the nearby mosque and the occasional donkey cart rumbling down the alley, but there’s something about the way they’ve designed the central courtyard that just muffles all that medina chaos.
What really struck me was how they’ve managed to blend the traditional riad architecture with genuinely comfortable modern touches. The rooms – at least the one I had on the second floor – had this gorgeous tadelakt bathroom that felt authentically Moroccan but with water pressure that would make a European hotel jealous. And you know what? The air conditioning actually works, which is more than I can say for some of the “luxury” places I’ve tried in the medina. The staff here seems to understand that foreign guests need certain things to work properly, but they don’t make you feel like you’re staying in some sanitized tourist bubble. The rooftop terrace gives you those classic medina views everyone’s after – you can see the Koutoubia minaret in the distance and watch the storks nesting on the neighboring buildings, especially beautiful around sunset when the whole city turns golden.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re really in Marrakech but don’t want to deal with the absolute madness of staying right next to Jemaa el-Fnaa. You’re about a seven-minute walk to the main square, but far enough into the residential part of the medina that you get a sense of how people actually live here. There’s a little bakery around the corner where locals buy their bread – the smell of fresh khobz drifts past the riad entrance every morning around 7 AM. And if you’re the type who worries about finding your way back after dark (which, let’s be honest, most of us are in the medina), the route from the main tourist areas is pretty straightforward once you do it a couple times. The staff will absolutely send someone to walk you back the first night if you ask, though they’re not pushy about it. I appreciated that they treated me like an adult who could figure things out, but were genuinely helpful when I needed it. The 9.3 rating isn’t just booking algorithm nonsense – this place actually deserves it.

Reviews of Riad Hôtel Marraplace
Great place with amazing staff – Laura from Spain – 3 July 2025 (9/10)
The staff is so friendly! Also the breakfast was great!
What could be improved: Nothing that I didn’t like. Romms are a bit tight, but is actually part of the experience. The romms were also really cute.Exceptional – Jessie from Australia – 18 June 2025 (10/10)
Lovely people, nice clean room. Excellent location for being on foot but not easy when trying to move your 20kg suitcase!
Superb – Elaine from United Kingdom – 15 June 2025 (9/10)
Lovely fresh breakfast served on roof terrace
great choise in Marrakech – Alberto from Italy – 18 May 2025 (10/10)
this Riad is pretty close to the main square, it's beautiful and the breakfast was very good, moreover it is served to the rooftop
What could be improved: it could be useful to wear ear plugs because of the noise that comes from the main square during the nightExceptional – Paweł from Poland – 8 May 2025 (10/10)
Perfect location, beautiful interior design, delicious welcome tea, memorable rooftop breakfast (!!!).
What could be improved: Credit card acceptance would be convenientExceptional – Daniel from Australia – 7 May 2025 (10/10)
Awesome riad. Staff goes above and beyond to help with anything you need. Great english for us too. Even gave us their whatsapp so we could contact them with questions while we were out and about.
Very steep stairs to upper levels, but they took all our bags up for us – not expecting tip.
Rooms are very clean and well equipped. Bathroom very small, but fine for our stay.
There were previous reviews about being pressured to pay in cash, but this was not our experience. Very happy for us to pay anyway we needed/wanted – although a standard bank fee of 5% applied for paying by card (May 2025).
Breakfast was great on the rooftop. Even organised a takeaway breakfast for our very early morning getaway on our last morning as well as organising our taxi to airport €20.
Mid 30s Australian couple.
What could be improved: Was a little hard to find as only has very small sign at the door. But the google map location is correct.Amazing …staff made it so special – Beth from United Kingdom – 30 April 2025 (10/10)
Everything it’s beautiful, the photos do not do it justice …perfect
Very good – Caroline from United Kingdom – 27 April 2025 (8/10)
Beautiful roof terrace where you can enjoy breakfast, or we actually brought back some pastries after dinner to watch the sunset. Rooms are clean and spacious, the property itself is beautifully decorated and smells wonderful.
What could be improved: No TV in the room, but this is not a major inconvenience at all, it was actually quite nice.Exceptional – Simone from Italy – 25 April 2025 (10/10)
Great support from the staff in any little thing. Really nice place and optimal price
Fantastic stay with attentive staff – Sara from United States – 22 April 2025 (10/10)
Location was close to the Jemaa el’Fnaa and easy to find. But the thing we liked most was the staff. While the riad in general is wonderful, the staff alone is worth booking. They went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and so personable. The breakfast on the roof terrace was delicious and amazing way to start the day. The room was comfortable. The bed was firm but comfortable, many outlets, good air, and good bathroom/room amenities.
What could be improved: Not much honestly. If you are a sensitive sleeper you may hear from a distance sounds or ppl walking outside but closing the window and/or having ear plugs would help. Truthfully the snoring next to me was worst.
