Riad Houdou Overview
You know what struck me first about Riad Houdou? The silence. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Marrakech’s medina – this ancient maze where donkeys clip-clop past your door and vendors call out in three languages – but step through that heavy wooden door on Rue Issebtinne and it’s like someone hit the mute button. The traditional riad architecture does this thing where the courtyard becomes this peaceful oasis, and honestly, after a day of navigating the souks and dodging motorbikes in those narrow alleys, you’ll appreciate it more than you expect.
The location is actually brilliant if you know the medina at all. Derd El Hammam is in the El Moukef quarter, which puts you close enough to Jemaa el-Fnaa that you can walk there in about eight minutes, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos every time you step outside. The street itself is quiet – well, medina quiet, which means you’ll still hear the call to prayer and the occasional late-night wedding celebration, but no tour groups tramping past at dawn. I found myself using the little café on the corner as a landmark when giving directions to taxi drivers, and the guys there started recognizing me after a couple days, which felt pretty authentic.
What really sets this place apart though is how they’ve managed to keep that traditional Moroccan feel without making you suffer for it. The rooms have proper air conditioning (trust me, you want this in summer), the wifi actually works throughout the building, and the bathrooms have hot water that doesn’t take fifteen minutes to kick in. The staff – and I’m not just saying this because it sounds nice – genuinely seem to care about helping you figure out the city. They gave me directions to this little hammam that I never would have found on my own, and when I mentioned wanting to buy saffron, they steered me away from the tourist traps toward a spice merchant who’s been in the same stall for thirty years. That 9.5 rating makes sense when you experience that kind of attention to detail. The rooftop terrace deserves a mention too – it’s where you’ll want to have your morning coffee while watching the city wake up, with the Atlas Mountains visible on clear days. Sure, it gets a bit crowded during sunset (everyone’s chasing that perfect Instagram shot), but early morning or late evening, it’s pretty magical.

Spotlessly clean, tranquil and beautiful to sit inside and unwind. The terrace was on two floors with a wonderful pool at the top. Extremely tastefully decorated and great location. The Riad made every effort to make sure our stay was as smooth as possible, attention to detail was fantastic.

Everything really, from the room to the staff.
Details are present at all time in this paradise. The staff is so friendly, attentive, professional, welcoming.
The check in was an absolute experience, they take you to the table and offer you tea, after a while, when you had rested then they go through the admin work and explain you about the city and give you many tips to explore the city in the best way possible.
Breakfast was delicious, the rose petals smell in the room was amazing, the common areas are so comfortable and makes you feel like in a oasis in the middle of the desert, the chirping from the birds will make you up in the morning, no need alarms!
I would like to make a special mention to Hassam and Abdell from the front desk team, but also to the concierge boy in the evening, very attentive. Also to the owners who were around and always having a quick chat to make sure we were having a great experience. Keep it up guys, you definitely made our experience in Marrakesh unforgettable. Regards, Aythami

The riad was absolutely stunning inside, every detail for guests was very well planned and the rooftop area with pool and breakfast area was beautiful. Really helpful for my daughter and I to get an introduction to Marrakesh when we first arrived with some tips/advice, together with mint tea and pastries, lovely touch. We would definitely like to return one day!
