Riad Jaaneman Overview

You know what? I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first walked down Derb Sraghna – it’s one of those narrow medina streets where you’re constantly dodging donkeys and wondering if your taxi driver actually knew where he was going. But honestly, finding Riad Jaaneman felt like discovering a secret. The entrance is pretty understated (which is typical for riads), but once you step inside, it’s like someone hit the pause button on all that medina chaos.

The courtyard is what got me first – I mean, every riad has one, but this place actually nails the whole peaceful oasis thing without feeling like a museum. The staff here genuinely seem to care about getting the details right, and they know the Dar El Bacha area inside out, which is huge when you’re trying to navigate the medina without losing your mind. What I really appreciated was how they handled the whole “traditional meets comfortable” balance. The rooms have character – proper Moroccan tilework and carved wood – but the beds are actually good (you’d be surprised how many riads miss this basic point), and the bathrooms work properly. The rooftop terrace is where you’ll probably end up spending your evenings, especially if you’re there during the cooler months. You get those classic medina views without the tourist crowds you’ll find at some of the bigger places.

Here’s the thing about the location – Dar El Bacha is sort of the sweet spot in the medina. You’re close enough to walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa and the main souks (maybe 10-15 minutes if you don’t get distracted), but you’re not dealing with the constant noise and hassle of being right in the thick of it. The neighborhood has this more residential feel, so you’ll see actual Marrakchi families going about their day, which I found way more interesting than just tourist stuff. Parking is basically impossible anywhere in the medina, so just plan on taking taxis to the edge and walking in – but honestly, that’s part of the experience. The riads staff can arrange pickups from specific points, which takes the guesswork out of it. One small thing – if you’re a light sleeper, bring earplugs. It’s not crazy loud, but medina life starts early with the call to prayer and street vendors, and the traditional architecture means sounds carry. That said, I actually found it kind of charming after the first night. The whole experience feels authentic without being rough around the edges, and that 9.4 rating makes total sense when you’re actually staying there.

Reviews of Riad Jaaneman

  • Beautiful, tranquil Riad in the heart of Marrakech – Michael from United Kingdom – 9 June 2025 (10/10)

Beautiful and chic Riad with wonderful staff. We've stayed here before and wanted to come back. Staff couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. Great location near the souk but smart area and wonderfully tranquil inside the Riad.

What could be improved: Nothing. Would highly recommend.

  • Beautiful Riad in the centre of the Medina, when you step into Jaaneman you enter a safe calm and beautiful Moroccan hos – Cordelia from United Kingdom – 9 June 2025 (10/10)

Riad Jaaneman, sits among hundreds of options in Marrakesh but I am so grateful to find this one. It is simply beautiful and it feels like home.

We virtually had the place to ourselves with a handful of other guests. The staff were incredibly humble, attentive and the hospitality is genuine. The breakfast they serve was a delightful experience.

Jaaneman is decorated to perfection, an interior design inspiration with every piece of furniture and ornament has a purpose, sentiment and a quality to it. The room was very comfortable, serene and bathroom facilities are very good.

We enjoyed the rooftop area where you can comfortably sun lounge or read one of the many books. A real space of calm amidst the outside busy hubbub of the Medina. Plenty of interesting quality souks and restaurants nearby with great access by foot to the various sights.

What could be improved: Nothing to add here, it was perfect and I will return one day.

  • A hidden gem. An oasis of calm & nature surrounded by the life of the medina. – Deborah from United Kingdom – 13 March 2025 (8/10)

A beautiful Riad that has been tastefully designed into a small hotel. Home from home vibe, lovely decor & rooftop, delicious breakfast & in a great spot for access to the medina & surrounding town.

What could be improved: Rooms are a little dark, & some of the finishing / decor is a little aged. But it adds to the character to an otherwise super spot.

  • The friendly staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome we would definitely recommend this charming riad – Helen from United Kingdom – 6 March 2025 (10/10)

  • Delightful gem in a middle of the hustle bustle of Marrakech city. – Sajal from United Kingdom – 24 February 2025 (9/10)

The Riad is extremely tastefully decorated and upon entering through the front door one immediately feels at peace. Lehsan and all the staff were so helpful and kind, we were made to feel at ease. Breakfast by the fire was a great way to start our day. The rooftop is stunning especially at sunset- we would take a book there and relax after sightseeing and shopping at the souks. We would stay here again if we are lucky enough to visit Marrakech again.

What could be improved: The doors to rooms do not have locks, this is not a huge issue though.

  • Amazing Riad! – Erika from Mexico – 18 February 2025 (10/10)

The riad is AMAZING, location is great! In the medina but not in the noisy area, is relaxing and the staff is very helpful. The heaters SUPER helpful

  • Perfect stay. Nice location. Close to everything but quiet at night. – Jiayi from China – 16 February 2025 (10/10)

We love the service, interior design, the terrace, and the breakfast!

What could be improved: It was hard to find the riad. There weren’t clear instructions.
