Riad Jakoura Overview

Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of riads around Marrakech, but Riad Jakoura actually gets it right in ways that surprised me. It’s tucked away on this narrow derb off Rue El Gza – and I mean narrow, like you’ll probably have to squeeze past a donkey cart at some point – but honestly, that’s part of the charm. The location is pretty smart too, because you’re close enough to Jemaa el-Fnaa that you can hear the distant drumming at night (which I actually found soothing, though your mileage may vary), but far enough in that you’re not dealing with the chaos of tourists getting lost outside your door every five minutes.

The riad itself has that classic Moroccan courtyard setup, but what I really appreciated was how they’ve restored it without going overboard on the “authentic” stuff that sometimes feels like a theme park. The tiles are gorgeous – those deep blues and greens that catch the light filtering down from the open roof – and the rooms actually have proper bathrooms, which, let me tell you, isn’t always a given in these old buildings. I stayed there during shoulder season in March, and the courtyard was perfect for morning coffee before the day got too warm. The staff genuinely knows the medina well too; our host Hassan gave us directions to this tiny spice shop that I never would’ve found otherwise, and he was right about which hammam to avoid (apparently it’s become a bit of a tourist trap lately).

What really sold me on this place was the breakfast situation – they serve it up on the terrace, and you can see over the medina walls to the Atlas Mountains on clear days. It’s not fancy, but it’s proper Moroccan breakfast with fresh bread and that amazing honey they source locally, plus they’ll make you eggs however you want them. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout most of the building, which is honestly a minor miracle in the medina, and the hot water was consistent even when I took late showers after long days wandering around. I mean, it’s not luxury in the marble-and-gold sense, but it’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere real rather than just passing through. The 8.5 rating makes sense to me – it’s solidly good without trying too hard to be perfect, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re trying to actually experience Marrakech rather than just Instagram it.

Reviews of Riad Jakoura

  • Wonderful host, room just perfect for one person, would book again – Alison from United Kingdom – 30 April 2025 (10/10)

Mohamed was very helpful, breakfast was good, certainly enough to set me up for the day, lovely terrace area and room large enough for one and to do some yoga on the mat

What could be improved: The room was quite hot with no air, would have preferred a thicker curtain on the window as I felt it was see through when the light was on, steps to the terrace were quite difficult to navigate

  • Opportunity to stay in unique surroundings – Alan from United States – 29 April 2025 (9/10)

Location. Unique experience in old home
    It may date to 1600

  • A quiet place near the activity – David from United States – 10 April 2025 (10/10)

The staff were all great as was the breakfast. Other rooms are probably different but I booked a single and it was small. I found it charming as was the doorway to it, which requires stooping. Some might find that a problem. The breakfast area is beautiful and the location excellent.

  • amazing city, great location to rest and the end of our day – Hodges from United Kingdom – 27 March 2025 (10/10)

This Riad is located right in the heart of The Medina and so outside it was the expected hustle and bustle of Marrakech but once inside it was cool, quiet and peaceful. the two members of staff were great answering questions and sorting out our airport transfers. definitely recommend this Riad

    What could be improved: nothing

  • Evelyn IRELAND – Evelyn from Ireland – 19 February 2025 (7/10)

As a solo traveller I was bit nervous. Mohammad was amazing!. He walked me at night to the ATM because I was scared to go alone at night. He showed me a map and told me where I should and shouldn't go and what scams to look out for. Breakfast is 8- 10 but he got up early to make me breakfast before my tours. Mohammad went above and beyond for me and everyone else, he made my holiday more enjoyable as he was just a text away if I needed him. I came for a holiday and gained a great friend. Samira cleaned my room and always did a great job. When I return to Morroco I will stay at those Riad again. It was really authentic and the rooftop terrace was a bonus. I would highly recommend to others looking for a Riad in Marrakesh. They booked my transfers to and feom the airport and

What could be improved: I would have liked to have been able to open a window to let some fresh air in but it wasn't a major problem. My single room was dark but again not a major problem. I also think the red paint could be replaced with a lighter colour but this is just constructive criticism. Samira was so helpful before I even arrived. Thank you!

  • Lovely. An authentic stay within Marrakesh’s medina. – Nigel from United Kingdom – 22 January 2025 (8/10)

An authentic riad within the medina.

What could be improved: Cold, but it was January and it’s supposed to keep cool…!!!

  • A great place to stay – David from United Kingdom – 3 January 2025 (9/10)

Very friendly helpful staff – couldn't do enough to help.

The room was a good size, cleaned every day & quiet at night. Great breakfast & great location to jump off into the sites & sounds of marrakech. Good WiFi but make sure you get an Esim so exploring Marrakech is a little easier.

  • Great Stay! – Francesca from Italy – 2 January 2025 (10/10)

Great Riad, friendly staff, super central and clean!

  • Superb – Andrius from Lithuania – 10 December 2024 (9/10)

The host was very friendly and helpful, the location is good, nice private bathroom.

What could be improved: Lack of electric sockets

  • It was very lovely, everyone was really kind and helpfull. We loved the location. – Szilvia from Hungary – 26 November 2024 (8/10)
