Riad Jonan & Spa Overview

You know what struck me first about Riad Jonan & Spa? The absolute silence when you step through that heavy wooden door on derb Bzou. I mean, you’re literally seconds away from the chaos of rue de la Kasbah – where the donkey carts and motorbikes create this constant symphony of organized madness – but inside, it’s like someone hit the mute button on Marrakech.

The riad sits in this perfect pocket of the Kasbah district, tucked away on one of those narrow derbs that tourists usually walk right past. Honestly, I almost missed it myself the first time because the entrance is so understated. But that’s sort of the point, isn’t it? Once you’re inside, you get why this place scores a 9.1 – the courtyard is absolutely stunning, with traditional zellige tilework that catches the light differently throughout the day, and there’s this gorgeous fountain that provides just enough ambient sound to make you forget you’re in the middle of one of Morocco’s busiest cities. The spa aspect isn’t just thrown in as an afterthought either; they’ve got this hammam that feels authentically Moroccan rather than like some generic hotel wellness center.

What I really appreciate is how they’ve managed to keep the traditional riad architecture intact while actually making it comfortable for modern travelers. The rooms have proper air conditioning (trust me, you’ll need it in summer), and the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the property – not always a given in these old buildings with their thick walls. The rooftop terrace gives you these incredible views over the Kasbah toward the Atlas Mountains, and it’s particularly magical at sunset when the call to prayer echoes from the nearby Saadian Tombs. You’re walking distance to the Bahia Palace and El Badi Palace, which is convenient, but more importantly, you’re in the heart of where actual Marrakchis live and work rather than being stuck in the tourist bubble of the main medina. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood – they’ll point you toward the little bakery around the corner where locals get their bread, or tell you which evenings the nearby derb gets quiet enough for a peaceful walk. Check-in was smooth, and they’re flexible about luggage storage if you arrive early or leave late. The only minor thing is that some of the rooms can get a bit echoey since sound carries in these traditional courtyards, but honestly, it’s part of the authentic riad experience.

  • Lovely! Gorgeous riad and warm and welcoming staff. 🙂 – Vanessa from Spain – 15 December 2024 (10/10)

This riad was amazing, even succeeded our expectations! Me and my partner did this trip as a gift to each other for both our birthdays, and to celebrate our 1st year anniversary, and we loved it! The room and facilities were gorgeous. Breakfast really nice too, and the staff very friendly, especially Abdul, he was always so kind and helpful, made us feel so welcomed! The women from the kitchen as well. Can’t fault anything tbh! We booked a double hammam and massage and it was sooo good! (Only thing was that one of the girls doing the massage kept on giggling and mumbling to the other one that was doing mine, which didn’t really help us relax lol) but that’s just a silly thing, 100% recommend this place!!

  • Excellent and would definitely stay again – Bennie from United States – 2 December 2024 (10/10)

We really liked this place! The staff was very helpful. Breakfast was good everyday and there were items to choose from as well on the rooftop. Staff helped with finding a tailor we needed who performed the alterations within hours and also fixed other items he saw. The room was cleaned everyday and was comfortable. Lighting was not great, but found out it was for relaxation and brighter bulbs can be installed if needed, again very accommodating. Setup our taxi to the airport and even walked us to the stop to get in the taxi, which was a van. Stored our bags and clothes on a hanger for our later departure and provided are to change clothes.

What could be improved: I cannot think of anything

  • Wonderful stay in Marrakech! – Sahraoui from Italy – 2 December 2024 (10/10)

Everything was perfect. This was my second time in this welcoming riad. Definitely recommend! 🙂
