Riad Kanata Overview

You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of riads in Marrakech, and Riad Kanata really surprised me. It’s tucked away on Derb Sidi Abdeloussa – one of those narrow alleys in the medina where you’ll definitely get lost at least once trying to find it. But honestly, that’s part of the charm. The Ben Salah neighborhood isn’t as touristy as some areas, which means you get that authentic medina experience without constantly dodging tour groups.

The riad itself has this wonderful lived-in feeling that a lot of the fancier places miss. The courtyard is gorgeous – classic Moroccan tilework and a small fountain that actually works (you’d be surprised how many don’t). I spent most mornings there with mint tea, listening to the call to prayer echo off the surrounding walls. The rooms are solid for a 4-star place, though I mean, don’t expect massive bathrooms. The hot water was consistent, which is more than I can say for some riads I’ve tried. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – you’re deep enough in the medina to avoid street noise, but close enough to walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa in about 10 minutes once you figure out the route.

The staff really knows their stuff about getting around. They’ll draw you little maps (way better than Google Maps in the medina, trust me) and actually give you realistic timing for walking places. I asked about parking, and they sorted out a spot at a nearby lot for a reasonable price – something you definitely need to think about if you’re driving in Morocco. The breakfast was good traditional Moroccan fare, nothing fancy but fresh bread and local honey hit the spot. At a 7.9 rating, it’s not perfect – the WiFi was spotty in some rooms, and the shower pressure could be better – but for the price point and location, it delivers exactly what you want from a medina riad experience. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in someone’s beautifully restored family home rather than a hotel, which is exactly why people come to Marrakech in the first place.

  Il Riad Kanata è posizionato in una piccola via, l'apparenza non è delle migliori, ma in realtà è molto tranquilla e sicura, mai percepito il minimo rischio, così come nel resto della città. Le camere sono grandi a sufficienza, la colazione ottima e abbondante, molto silenzioso escludendo una Moschea che ti rende partecipe delle usanze Islamiche, personalmente lo trovo piacevole, per immergersi nella cultura locale. Il proprietario Abdel è sempre stato disponibile e gentile. La posizione è molto comoda, a soli 15 minuti a piedi dalla piazza Jamaa El-Fna. Consiglio vivamente questo Riad per il soggiorno nella bellissima Marrakech.

  Personale gentile e sempre a disposizione, buona la colazione, sa di casa. Molto vicino la piazza Jeema El Fna, quindi nel cuore dei souk, si entra in contatto con la parte verace della città.
  
  What could be improved: Il Riad si trova vicino la moschea quindi alle 6 del mattino vieni svegliato dal richiamo alla preghiera, ma credo questo succeda in tutta l'area. La camera è piccola e l'unica finestra presente da sul ballatoio quindi zero privacy.

  Staff is very helpful and attentive. Breakfast was tasty and rich. Riad is quite basic but has nice atmosphere. Very good price/value ratio.
  
  What could be improved: There was a bit of smell from the drain, so we had to keep the bathroom door closed all the time. But it seems like a general problem in Marrakesh, so they put parfume soaps to cover it.
  The access street to riad is bit dirty, but not such a big problem.

  Pour commencer, l’accueil avec Monsieur Aziz était parfait 👌
  Une personne très chaleureuse et attentionnée. Les chambres sont propres et bien aménagées.
  Les dames qui font la cuisine sont très gentilles et serviables. On ne peut que recommander cette Riad!

  Ubicación en callejuela, no es fácil de encontrar, pero el sitio no es nada malo. El desayuno bastante bien. La wifi no va en la habitación, eso sí.
  
  What could be improved: wifi en la habitación. Ubicación más sencilla de encontrar, hay que ir preguntando a los niños por a calle, pero el personal amabilísimo.
