Riad Khalifa Overview

You know what hit me first about Riad Khalifa? The silence. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Marrakech’s medina – probably heard the call to prayer echoing off the walls as you wound through those impossibly narrow alleys to find Derb Ouayhah – but once you step through that heavy wooden door, it’s like someone hit the mute button on the city. The traditional riad design actually works exactly how it’s supposed to, with that central courtyard creating this perfect little oasis where the only sounds are maybe some gentle fountain bubbling and birds chirping from the orange trees overhead.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience the real medina without staying in some soulless hotel in Gueliz. Sidi Abdelaziz is one of those neighborhoods where you’ll see actual families going about their daily lives – kids playing in the streets, women carrying bread from the local bakery, that sort of authentic stuff that makes you feel like you’re getting a glimpse behind the tourist curtain. Walking to Jemaa el-Fnaa takes maybe ten minutes once you figure out the route (and trust me, you’ll get lost the first couple times, but that’s half the fun). The riad staff actually draws you a little map, which is way more helpful than trying to explain it with street names that don’t really exist anyway.

What really sets this place apart – and why it’s earned that 9 rating – is how they’ve managed to blend traditional Moroccan architecture with genuine comfort. The rooms have those gorgeous tadelakt walls that feel smooth as silk, and honestly, the beds are better than half the fancy hotels I’ve stayed at in Europe. The rooftop terrace is where you’ll probably spend your evenings, watching the sun set over the Atlas Mountains while sipping mint tea. During Ramadan, you can hear the whole neighborhood come alive after sunset, which is pretty magical if you time your visit right. One small thing though – if you’re a light sleeper, pack earplugs for the early morning call to prayer, though most people find it becomes part of the charm after a day or two. The hammam experience they offer is absolutely worth it, especially after a long day of wandering through the souks, and the staff genuinely seems to care about making sure you understand what you’re getting into rather than just pushing services on you.

Reviews of Riad Khalifa

  • Perfect – Gary from United Kingdom – 26 May 2025 (9/10)

Everything as expected no complaints 10/10

  • Piece of oasis in the middle of the medina – Ágnes from Hungary – 4 May 2025 (10/10)

The staff was extremely nice and helpful! (I only remember Hassan’s name but all of them was really friendly, and we got a lot of useful tips from them to explore the city without getting scammed)
We arrived a bit early but it was no problem: they have a luggage room but we chilled a bit in the inside garden with a welcome mint tea and got our room in less than an hour. The rooftop is amazing, our room was clean and comfortable (exactly like on the pictures), and the staff was always around if we had a question. If you’re a light sleeper bring earplugs (I did, and had no problem sleeping) otherwise you might wake up for the other guests or the call to prayer.
It’s amazing how quiet it becomes once you enter the Riad, completely shuts the noise of the medina out.

What could be improved: As others have said It’s a bit hard to find it in the medina, but it’s true for every other Riads. The google maps takes you to a point where you still have to find the small alley to the riad. Ask the shop owners nearby and look for the signs on the walls!

  • Truly an exceptional stay – a real gem in the heart of Marrakech – Alessandro from Germany – 2 May 2025 (10/10)

We had a truly wonderful experience at Riad Khalifa. The riad itself is absolutely beautiful, with a perfect location right in the heart of the Medina. Our room was spacious, very clean, and full of character. The central courtyard is lovely and was a peaceful place to relax, even with our small child. The rooftop terrace was another highlight – perfect for enjoying tea in the evening or even having dinner with a beautiful view.

One of the best parts of our stay was the staff – they were simply amazing. They were incredibly kind, helpful, and attentive to every single request. They made us feel welcome and taken care of from the moment we arrived.

We often ate at the riad, and the food was outstanding – the cook is truly talented. We also enjoyed a fantastic hammam and massage at the riad’s small spa, which was another memorable experience.

Everything about this riad – the décor, the cleanliness, the location, the safety, the food, and especially the people – made our stay unforgettable. It’s a place that truly feels like a home away from home. 10/10.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Beautiful riad, has everything you need – Zarkky from Finland – 11 April 2025 (9/10)

Beautiful riad, good location despite the last small turns in small alleyway. Friendly staff and great rooftop terrace.

What could be improved: The room could be a bit cleaner, since at parts there was dust, but nothing unbearable. The sheets were very clean and could stay again.

  • All amazing things to say about this oasis of tranquility – Marjolaine from United Kingdom – 2 April 2025 (9/10)

This was our first time in Marrakesh and our stay at Riad khalifa was beautiful and unforgettable! The staff, especially Hassan, Ahmed, and immad were incredible, they are what make the Riad amazing! And ati the chef, her cooking was better than any restaurant we went to in Marrakesh! The location was right in the centre and was easy to access everything, we felt safe and sound at all times. Can’t say anything negative about this place we will be returning!

  • Superb – Zuzana from Czech Republic – 26 March 2025 (9/10)

Very nice and comfortable bed compare to other riad on Marrakesh . We tried a hammam in the riad and it was nice experience ,you have to book it in advance and it´ s private.

What could be improved: Very simple breakfast

  • Magical stay in the Medina – Claire from United Kingdom – 18 March 2025 (10/10)

We loved everything about our stay at Riad Khalifa. It really is an oasis in the heart of the Medina. The rooms are beautiful and the bed was large and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and it was served in the beautiful courtyard setting. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. Hassan was very welcoming and greeted us with a smile each time we arrived back at the Riad. The location is excellent (albeit a little tricky to find at first!).

What could be improved: The only very slight criticism would be the shower as the water pressure was very low and it was a hand held shower which made washing a bit tricky!

  • Exceptional – Tim from Greece – 11 March 2025 (10/10)

Where can I really start!Everyone in the staff was helpful, understanding, kind, assisting in anything needed. We paid the hotel ahead of time but missed the flight for the day we booked the, hotel. They didn't had to but they let us stay free the next daywhen we arrived!!!❤️The place is great with a nice area inside with trees and birds chirping. Great sounds and smells from the great Moroccan kitchen of the hotel.
To finish everything was perfect and the hotel right in the heart of Medina.A few meters from all these nice shopping places.THE HOTEL MANAGER VERY HELPFUL.❤️THANK YOU HASSAN AND AHMED

  • Beautiful Oasis in the heart of Marrakesh – Jan from United Kingdom – 8 March 2025 (9/10)

Calm and beautiful Oasis in the heart of Marrakesh. Delightful roof top breakfast area. Charming staff – Hussan.

What could be improved: Difficult to navigate to the venue at night. Not ideal if you have mobility issues. Off beaten track.

  • Perfect – Tom from United Kingdom – 20 February 2025 (10/10)

Hassan was brilliant. So welcoming and kind and went out of his way to make sure I had everything I needed. Even breakfast on the terrace when he thought it was too cold!
