Riad la Parenthèse by Sashema Overview

You know what? I’ve stayed at plenty of riads in Marrakech, and Riad la Parenthèse honestly caught me off guard in the best way possible. When you’re walking down Derb Arset Aouzal – and trust me, you’ll think your GPS is broken because these medina streets all look the same – you almost miss the entrance. It’s this understated wooden door that doesn’t scream “fancy hotel,” but once you step inside, the whole vibe shifts. The courtyard hits you with that perfect mix of orange blossom and mint tea that somehow every great riad manages to nail, and there’s this immediate sense of calm that’s pretty remarkable considering you’re literally in the heart of the medina chaos.

The location is actually brilliant if you know Marrakech at all. Bab Doukkala is one of those neighborhoods where you get the authentic medina experience without feeling like you’re constantly dodging tour groups – I mean, you’re close enough to walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa in about fifteen minutes, but far enough that you’re not hearing the drum circles at 2 AM. The staff here really knows their stuff too, which makes a huge difference when you’re trying to navigate the medina’s maze of souks and side streets. They’ll give you actual useful directions (not just “turn left at the carpet shop” because there are literally hundreds of carpet shops), and they seem genuinely excited to share their local recommendations rather than just pushing the usual tourist traps.

What really sets this place apart though is the attention to detail that you don’t always get, even at higher-end riads. The rooms have this perfect balance of traditional Moroccan design and modern comfort – the beds are actually comfortable, which honestly isn’t always a given, and the bathrooms have proper water pressure. The rooftop terrace becomes this magical spot in the evenings where you can see the Atlas Mountains on clear days, and there’s something really special about having your morning coffee up there while listening to the call to prayer echo across the city. The 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there because it’s those little things that add up – like how they remember your name after the first day, or how the mint tea just appears at the perfect moment without you having to ask. It’s not trying to be the flashiest riad in Marrakech, but it nails that sweet spot of being authentic, comfortable, and genuinely welcoming in a way that feels effortless.

Reviews of Riad la Parenthèse by Sashema

  • We had a great stay, would stay there again. 100% recommend! – Estelle from Canada – 11 June 2025 (10/10)

The staff was super nice and attentive, the breakfast was delicious, the place was pretty and clean and the pool was perfect for a little dio in the hot afternoons.

  • Exceptional – Maddi from Germany – 8 June 2025 (10/10)

The place is an oasis of peace in the middle of the busy-chaotic-amazing Marrakech. All the recepcionists and the ladies that were cooking the breakfast were really polite and always willing to help.

But we need to do a special mention to Redoane, he has been the most kind, helpfull and pleasant recepcionist Ive ever known. He was always happy to help and he even prepared as a guide for our following destinations in Marocco.

    Skukram and bislama

  • Lovely Riad. Staff first class (thank you again, Jamal). Breakfast set us up for the day. – Michael from United Kingdom – 8 June 2025 (10/10)

We felt the staff, Jamal and his colleagues, made every effort to ensure our stay went well. The breakfast was very good. We didn’t use the roof terrace but felt it offered a variety of facilities.

What could be improved: The pool, we felt, was just a plunge pool, which helped to cool the inner patio. The location was just off the souk. No taxi can drive in the old medina. Staff met us at a drop off point and walked with us to the Riad, which we were very grateful for as we would have found it very difficult to find the Riad otherwise. At first sight the old Medina and its labyrinth of alley ways can seem a bit daunting, but we got used to it. (We are both retirees.) Marrakesh was ‘manic’, but a very real and memorable experience.

  • Great riad. Would stay here again. – Mariama from United States – 4 June 2025 (9/10)

Breakfast was great. The location is very central and easy to get to everywhere. Clean and comfortable riad/rooms. Looks just like the images. Wonderful staff!

  • Same – Susan from United States – 1 June 2025 (10/10)

See already written I’m just adding pics

    What could be improved: Same

  • Pleasant stay with friendly staff and good location – Lovepreet from United Kingdom – 26 May 2025 (10/10)

Very helpful and friendly staff, each person made our stay comfortable and memorable. Location was good as well, in a calm locality but within walking distance to the souks, le jardin secret and plenty of places to eat. They were also very accommodating for us, especially for our baby which made our stay stress free.

What could be improved: Nothing much

  • Quiet and friendly with an amazing dinner. – Carlos from Portugal – 29 April 2025 (10/10)

    Location, location, location.
Oh and all the staff: Jamal is such a great host.
Chef Amina provided us an amazing dinner.
And the lady for the room service and the breakfast (sorry for missing your name) is so gentle and friendly.
Always with a smile and very good vibes.
Thank you all, we really felt at home.

What could be improved: Nothing on the negative side.

  • Exceptional – Aisha from United Kingdom – 20 April 2025 (10/10)

Staff were helpful, rooms were quiet, I had a very good experience. Went on a solo trip to relax and this hotel was exactly what I needed, a nice comfortable place to rest my head for a good price

  • Exceptional – Benjamin from United States – 19 April 2025 (10/10)

Nice facilities, especially recommend the one room on the top floor since it has more privacy and natural light, plus private roof deck. Staff were very friendly and helpful throughout. We really loved the location. It’s an easy 10 min walk to most Medina attractions but far enough from the center that you don’t feel overrun and good proximity to Gueliz as well.

  • Wonderful stay! – Farah from Canada – 18 April 2025 (10/10)

In the midst of all the hustle and bustle, this place is in the perfect location where you can find peace and quiet. We looked forward to breakfast every morning. A slight variation would be nice but it was great nonetheless. We want to thank Jamal for the random asks we had. Thank you for taking care of us. We were feeling nervous that we would get lost once we arrived from the airport trying to look for the Riad. The owner helped us organize the shuttle and Jamal came and picked us up from the entrance of the souk. The room was made up daily which was wonderful. We had a lovely and memorable stay!

What could be improved: Everything was good. Minor feedback: The bathroom shower wasn't always cleaned. Water pressure is very low. And the lighting in the bathroom is very dark and dim. My recommendation would be to improve the lighting there.
