Riad Laila Marrakech Overview

Look, I’ll be straight with you about Riad Laila – it’s one of those places that actually gets what a riad should be, you know? The moment you step through that heavy wooden door on Avenue M’salla, you’re hit with this immediate sense of calm that’s honestly pretty magical after dealing with the chaos of Marrakech’s medina (which, let’s face it, can be overwhelming even for seasoned travelers).

The location is actually brilliant if you know the area. You’re close enough to Jemaa el-Fnaa that you can walk there in about ten minutes, but far enough away that you won’t hear the snake charmers and drum circles until 2 AM. Avenue M’salla itself is one of those streets that feels authentically Moroccan without being touristy – there’s a tiny bakery about two blocks down where locals grab their morning bread, and I mean, the smell alone will wake you up better than coffee. The riad itself has that traditional courtyard setup with rooms wrapped around it, and honestly, they’ve managed to keep it feeling intimate rather than echo-y like some of the bigger places. The tiles are gorgeous – those deep blues and greens that you see everywhere in Morocco but somehow look more vibrant here, maybe because of how the light hits them in the afternoon.

What really sets this place apart though is the staff’s approach. They’re not hovering over you trying to upsell hammam treatments every five minutes, but they’re genuinely helpful when you need them. The guy at reception (I think his name was Youssef?) actually drew me a little map showing which streets to avoid during morning rush hour – that’s the kind of local knowledge you can’t get from a guidebook. The rooms are solid for a four-star – not huge, but well thought out with actual storage space and bathrooms that have decent water pressure. The rooftop terrace is where you’ll want to spend your evenings, especially around sunset when you can see the Atlas Mountains in the distance and the call to prayer echoes across the city. It’s one of those moments that reminds you why you travel, you know?

The breakfast spread is pretty typical for Morocco – lots of fresh bread, honey, olives, that amazing mint tea – but they do it well and the dining area stays cool even when it’s scorching outside. One small thing though: if you’re a light sleeper, ask for a room away from the main entrance because there can be some noise from the street early in the morning when the delivery trucks start making their rounds. Also, like most riads, the Wi-Fi is decent in common areas but can be spotty in some rooms – not a deal-breaker, but worth knowing if you’re planning to work remotely. Overall, it’s the kind of place that feels authentic without sacrificing comfort, and honestly, that balance is harder to find than you’d think in Marrakech these days.

Reviews of Riad Laila Marrakech

  • Very good – Alexandre from France – 17 April 2025 (8/10)

  • Superb – Anthony from France – 13 April 2025 (9/10)

  • Very spacious maroccan expirience. Despite the cold we had a great stay, food market is near by. – Bohanel from Morocco – 18 December 2024 (7/10)

The space is very big and the water is also nice in the middle

What could be improved: We arrived in winter and the whole house was very cold. As it is actually an open house. I think this is great for summer. In the rooms there were enough heaters. I know that in first room the heater did not work well.

  • Agréable séjour – Romain from France – 13 December 2024 (7/10)

What could be improved: La literie trop dur

  • A hidden oasis in the desert. – Nishant from United Kingdom – 21 August 2024 (10/10)

It’s a beautiful clean family friendly property that is hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the square. A lovely local neighbourhood with amazing people around. Youseef and His wife were amazing hosts. They cooked breakfast for us everyday. We also had some lovely lunch and dinner cooked by them. They were really warm and caring and my kids had a good time. The local neighbourhood was really pleasant to experience as they were really nice and friendly. All the local attraction are about 10-15 mins away. There is a taxi rank very close by, just 10 mins walk.

What could be improved: There is nothing I can think of. The pool could've been a little bigger and one of the bathrooms leaked into the bedroom after we took a shower.

  • Very good – Ahmed from France – 24 June 2024 (8/10)

  • Buena casa mala zona. – Achille from Spain – 4 March 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: Faltaba microondas, y el barrio no era muy para turistas. No lo recomiendo si no vas con alguien local.

  • Superb – Thomas from France – 2 March 2024 (9/10)

  • Hidden Gem, – Mohammad from United Kingdom – 1 September 2023 (10/10)

Stayed in several riads in my stay in Marrakech and this was the best. My family of 4 loved it. The pool is a bit small but perfect to cool off during the hot days.
The property from the outside looked like a normal residential apartment, but when we walked in it looked and felt like a palace.
Yousef was a great host and assisted us whenever we called.
I highly recommend this to everyone, would definitely book again.

What could be improved: Taxi stand 500m walk.
