You know what? I’ve stayed at plenty of riads in Marrakech, and Riad les 2 Portes actually gets it right in ways that surprised me. The location on Derb Moulay Abdelkader Dabachi is one of those addresses that sounds impossibly complicated until you realize it’s actually perfect – you’re deep enough in the medina to feel properly immersed, but not so buried that you’ll spend twenty minutes wandering narrow alleys with your luggage every time you want to grab dinner at Jemaa el-Fnaa.

The riad itself has this wonderful lived-in elegance that I mean in the best possible way. The courtyard has that classic central fountain setup, obviously, but the tilework has these little imperfections that make it feel authentic rather than like some glossy restoration project. Honestly, I loved sitting there in the early morning with mint tea before the day got too warm – there’s something about the way the light hits the courtyard around 8 AM that just works. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star place, though I’ll say the bathrooms are genuinely nice (and the water pressure is better than half the places I’ve stayed in the medina, which is saying something). Air conditioning works well too, which you’ll definitely appreciate if you’re there in summer.

What really sold me on this place was how the staff actually knows the neighborhood. I’m not talking about the usual tourist recommendations – I mean they’ll tell you which hammam the locals go to, or that the best bread comes from the bakery two streets over, or that Thursday mornings the nearby market has this incredible olive vendor. It’s that kind of insider knowledge that makes you feel like you’re experiencing Marrakech rather than just visiting it. The breakfast spread is solid too, with proper Moroccan pastries alongside the usual continental stuff, and they serve it until a reasonable hour so you don’t have to rush. One small thing – the WiFi can be spotty in some rooms (seems to depend on which side of the courtyard you’re on), but honestly, that might be a feature rather than a bug depending on what kind of trip you’re looking for. The 8.7 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the medina, but it nails the fundamentals while giving you that authentic riad experience that’s getting harder to find as more places go full luxury resort.

  The staff was very nice. We were leaving earlier than breakfast time and they prepared us breakfast, without us asking, to take with us to the airport. Super nice of them. A calm riad, more beautiful than I expected it to be by the pictures.

  Very quite room in an authentic Riad. Very friendly staff and enjoyable stay.
  The Riad is in the centre of the main centre in Marrakesh, which is crazy busy, but the place was very quiet and relaxing. Can be hard to find as google Maps might not work correctly..Might be best to book a taxi with them to collect you from airport

  Thank you to the lovely people at Riad Les 2 Portes for their hospitality! They were so helpful and pleasant always. The included breakfast is very good and you get a lot with it! This is located bang in the middle of the Medina so it is very easy to explore all of the Medina from here and really immerses you in the culture of Marrakech, giving you a full experience – I would highly recommend!

  Good quality of everything, beautiful and well thought design of the room (it's pleasant to be inside), good shower, nice breakfast (egg, yogurt, bit of fruits, fresh juice), friendly person on reception. There is beautiful space on rooftop terrace also, with couch. Internet wifi was working well. Enough lamps/light in the room. It was nice to be welcomed with tea on arrival. Very clean, there is liquid soap in the bathroom, hairdryer and bathrobes. Location 3 min walk to the main square.

  It’s located right in the heart of souk, so easy access to most places you want to visit. It’s a pretty little riad. Space inside the room might be a little tight, but it gives such a feel of the place. The room is very well planned with attention to details of multiple plug points and dual light switches. They serve a decent breakfast . Zakaria was a kind host and very helpful guiding all the way. Helped with airport transfer , to keep our luggage for half a day and also as our flight was later we spend some time Relaxing in the terrace. Overall lovely stay and lovely hosts.
