Riad les Ammonites and Spa Overview
Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of riads around Marrakech, and Riad les Ammonites honestly caught me off guard – in the best way possible. You know how sometimes you book a place based on photos and hope it’s not a complete disaster? Well, this one actually exceeded expectations, which doesn’t happen often at this price point.
The location is what really sold me on it. It’s tucked away on Derb El Cadi, which is deep enough in the medina that you feel like you’re experiencing the real Marrakech, but you’re not going to get hopelessly lost trying to find it (I mean, you might get a little lost, but that’s half the fun). The walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa takes maybe 10 minutes if you know where you’re going, 20 if you don’t and stop to look at everything – which you will. What I loved is that once you duck into that little derb, the chaos of the main souks just melts away. You can actually hear yourself think, and honestly, after a day of haggling over carpets and dodging motorcycles, that silence feels like luxury.
The riad itself has that perfect balance of authentic charm and modern comfort that’s surprisingly hard to find. The courtyard is gorgeous – they’ve got this beautiful fountain that’s just the right volume, you know? Not so loud it keeps you awake, but enough to create that peaceful atmosphere. The rooms are spacious by medina standards, and the beds are actually comfortable (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in traditional riads). The spa was a pleasant surprise too – I wasn’t expecting much, but their hammam is legit. The woman who runs it clearly knows what she’s doing, and after a long day wandering the souks, those treatments hit different.
What really impressed me was the staff’s local knowledge. The guy at reception – I think his name was Youssef – gave me directions to this tiny restaurant that served the best pastilla I had in Morocco, and it was literally a five-minute walk away. He also steered me toward the tanneries early in the morning before the crowds hit, which was genius advice. These are the kinds of insights you just don’t get from guidebooks or those massive chain hotels in Gueliz.
The breakfast spread is solid – fresh bread, local honey, mint tea that doesn’t taste like it came from a bag, and they’ll make you eggs however you want them. I actually found myself lingering over breakfast most mornings, just soaking up the atmosphere in that courtyard. The WiFi works well enough for checking emails and posting photos, though it gets a bit spotty in the evenings when everyone’s online.
If I’m being completely honest, the only minor gripe I had was with the shower pressure – it’s not terrible, but don’t expect a power shower. And like most places in the medina, finding it the first time can be a bit of an adventure, especially if you’re arriving after dark. But once you’re settled in, you’ll understand why this place has such high ratings. It’s one of those spots that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special, even though plenty of travelers have clearly figured it out already.

Reviews of Riad les Ammonites and Spa
Exceptional – Shelby from United States – 26 June 2025 (10/10)
This place is stunning, the rooms are great and we did a spa day + dinner there to rest. The managers, Ayoub & Fahd are amazing—they came and got us when we got lost and helped us navigate the Medina with ease.
In fact, this Riad saved our vacation. Let me explain…we were stuck in Heathrow (geopolitical issues and the plane was late, by 3 hours) & we were going to arrive at 12 in Casablanca & miss our hot air ballooning trip in the morning at 5am. I reached out to the owner to ask about how to get from Casablanca to the Riad at 1am, HER TAXI CAME AND GOT US (yes, we paid, but happily—as we would have missed the hot air balloon ride). We arrived at the Riad at 4am, with one hour to drink coffee, get into the room and freshen up. This Riad helped us get our bucket list item checked and saved the day. This property is a must when visiting Marrakesh. You can have a restful day doing a Hammam, massage & then into the pool + dinner, plus you are in the Medina! It’s incredible. The food was better than the restaurants in the area too. Can’t recommend enough. I still get a bit teary thinking of how much effort they put into helping us make it to our ballooning! Oh, and I lost my cane in London—they HAD A CANE THERE, it was exactly the right size. I will be back, my entire family adored staying here—it felt like home.

I loved the room decoration the most, and of course the staff. The staff made us feel home. I would definitely stay here again on my next visit.
What could be improved: The breakfast didn't have any protein but very tasty cabs of many kinds.Amazing well located Riad in Medina with the best hosts – Laurelle from South Africa – 28 September 2024 (10/10)
Loved everything at the Riad, was always greeted with smiles by Fyad and the Ayoub, they were so accommodating in all our questions and needs. One morning we couldn't do early breakfast due to tour, so Ayoub got the staff to make a small lunch pack. Great tips and advice on where to go and how to navigate the Medina. The room was always cleaned everyday, good air-condition and amenties, suoer spacious room with lovely decor and comfortable bed. Loved our stay. The Morrocan breakfasts everyday were the absolute BEST!! Would definitely come back here.
An excellent experience! – Susana from Portugal – 7 August 2024 (10/10)
Spacious, comfortable rooms. Bathroom with all amenities. Small refreshing pool that felt incredibly good in August!
Excellent breakfast.
Communication with the riad. Transfers on time.
An excellent experience!
What could be improved: Just a suggestion to include some fruit at breakfast. Not as an addition because breakfast is already very filling, but as a substitute for sweets, for example.Superb – Mhand from Morocco – 11 July 2024 (9/10)
dinner was amazing
