Riad les Rêves d’Amélie Overview

Look, I’ll be honest – I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked through the narrow alley leading to Riad les Rêves d’Amélie. The Kasbah area can be hit or miss, you know? But man, stepping through that unassuming door at number 90 was like discovering a secret. The place sits right in the heart of the old medina, close enough to the Saadian Tombs that you can actually walk there in about three minutes (though good luck finding it on your first try – these streets are basically a maze).

What really got me was how quiet it felt once you’re inside. I mean, outside you’ve got the usual Marrakech symphony of motorbikes and vendors calling out, but the riad’s courtyard just swallows all that noise. The traditional architecture is gorgeous – all those intricate zellige tiles and carved plasterwork that takes forever to get right. They’ve clearly put money into maintaining the authentic details, which honestly makes such a difference from some of the riads that try to modernize everything. The rooms wrap around this central courtyard where they serve breakfast, and I actually found myself hanging out there way more than I expected, just watching the light change throughout the day.

The location is pretty sweet if you want to be in the thick of things – you’re maybe a ten-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa square, though I’d definitely recommend having the address written in Arabic because taxi drivers sometimes get confused with the French name. The staff really knows their stuff about getting around the medina, which is clutch because even Google Maps gives up in there sometimes. I stayed during shoulder season in November and the place felt perfectly busy without being chaotic, though I imagine it gets pretty packed during the cooler months when everyone’s trying to escape European winter. The 8.8 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be a luxury palace, but it nails what a good riad should be. The whole experience feels authentically Moroccan without being touristy, if that makes sense. Plus, there’s something special about falling asleep to the call to prayer echoing off the old walls and waking up to mint tea in a place that’s been welcoming travelers for decades.

Reviews of Riad les Rêves d’Amélie

  • A fantastic place to stay – Ben from United Kingdom – 28 June 2025 (10/10)

The Riad was lovely and so traditional. We had a full cooked breakfast on the roof terrace which was really good. The location was ideal and only a short walk into the centre. The staff were extremely kind and helpful.

  • Fantastic location, lovely accommodating staff, for great value and a comfortable stay! – James from United Kingdom – 13 June 2025 (9/10)

Great location, very flexible and accommodating staff, clean and peaceful once inside to escape the chaos of the streets of Marrakech. The breakfast was lovely and served up on the roof terrace at your leisure between a generous timeframe, however they can accommodate should you need an earlier or later breakfast! Staff are friendly and welcoming, and flexible. We were very kindly given our room until later in the day, meaning we could freshen up and shower before our evening flight home. This is obviously subject to availability, however the fact it was offered without the usual money grabbing techniques most hotels employ, was a very kind personal touch.

What could be improved: The A/C would regularly be turned off after going out for the day, and during 35-40 degree Celsius temperatures, it meant the rooms would really heat up, especially the bathroom which had no A/C unit.

We did not ask them to leave the A/C on however… so it could be our mistake in not asking if the A/C could be left on during the day, so they may accommodate this, but just some generic feedback in general!

  • Great place and in a great location. If you want a riad, try this one!! – Colby from United States – 27 April 2025 (10/10)

Very intimate, friendly staff, super comfortable bed, amazing location.

What could be improved: Really great place. The water pressure wasn’t fantastic and that’s the worst I can say.

  • Superb – Caleb from United States – 16 April 2025 (9/10)

Amazing location, nice staff, comfortable, cool terrace, great breakfast, excellent value overall.

What could be improved: No real sound isolation, so you have to hope people staying there are quiet.

  • Fabulous Riad, the most helpful staff – Jessica from United Kingdom – 18 March 2025 (10/10)

Riad les Rêves d'Amélie was a perfect stay. Great roof terrace overlooking the mosque. Close to many tourist spots with excellent eateries nearby. Meryam couldn't have been more helpful.

What could be improved: The breakfast was delicious and changed every day. Would have been nice to know what was being served as not all eaten and some unnecessary waste.

  • Very nice stay, in beautiful Riad, in great location managed by nice team – Parodi from Switzerland – 8 March 2025 (8/10)

Great location, well decorated, beautiful terrace, friendly management team

  • Čudovit Riad – Majda from Slovenia – 23 February 2025 (10/10)

The riad is just like in the photos, beautiful, decorated to the last detail, impeccably clean and fragrant. There is air conditioning in the room but in the middle of February we had no need for heating! The terrace for breakfast and rest or lying in the sun is very beautiful, with a view of the mosque tower. The breakfast is truly excellent! The staff is extremely helpful, always available and helps with everything a traveler needs on their trip. You can choose several routes to the city center, the one lit up in the evening and full of locals across the street or the narrower paths full of craft shops. The riad is located directly next to the most important sights, which you can see in the late afternoon and right next to the taxi stop for tours, e.g. Jardin Majorelle. The mosque on the other side of the square is very loud, not even earplugs help, there is an early morning wake-up call, which amused us a lot.

  • A nice Riad in a great location. – Matthew from United Kingdom – 17 February 2025 (8/10)

Nice Riad with a great location. Staff are attentive and the rooms clean.

Great service provided by Meryam and team. They really made us feel at home. Room was nicely cleaned daily. Complementary breakfast on the rooftop with a great view. Staff is attentive and accommodating.
