Riad Les Trois Mages Overview

You know what struck me first about Riad Les Trois Mages? The address alone tells you everything – tucked away down Derb Jamaa in the heart of Riad Laarouss, which honestly feels like the most authentically Moroccan pocket of the medina. I mean, you’re literally walking through centuries-old alleyways where the walls are so close you can touch both sides, and then suddenly you step through this unassuming wooden door and boom – you’re in this gorgeous traditional riad that feels like a secret.

The place has this incredible way of being both completely traditional and surprisingly comfortable. The central courtyard is exactly what you’d hope for, with that classic fountain in the middle and rooms opening onto covered galleries above, but the details are what got me. The zellige tilework isn’t just pretty – it’s actually done right, which you don’t always see even in expensive places. And the rooftop terrace? Look, everyone talks about rooftop views in Marrakech, but this one actually delivers. You can see the Koutoubia minaret without having to crane your neck around satellite dishes, and in the evenings when the call to prayer echoes across the medina… well, it’s pretty magical.

What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to stay true to the riad concept while making it work for modern travelers. The rooms aren’t huge – they can’t be in a building this old – but they’re thoughtfully designed with proper storage and, crucially, bathrooms that actually function well. The WiFi works (not always a given in these thick-walled places), and the staff genuinely knows the neighborhood. When I asked about finding a specific spice vendor, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward Jemaa el-Fnaa like most places do – he actually walked me to the end of the derb and gave me proper directions through the souk.

The 9.7 rating makes sense when you experience the little things. Like how they serve mint tea that doesn’t taste like sugar water, or how the evening lighting in the courtyard creates these amazing shadows on the carved plaster. Even the location, which might seem intimidating if you’re worried about navigating the medina, is actually perfect once you get oriented. You’re close enough to the main souks that you can walk there in five minutes, but far enough from the tourist chaos that you can actually sleep at night. And honestly, learning to find your way through these narrow streets becomes part of the charm – though I’d definitely recommend downloading an offline map because GPS gets confused down here.

The only thing I’d warn people about is that this isn’t a resort-style place where everything’s done for you. It’s a riad, which means it’s more like staying in someone’s beautiful home. If you’re looking for a pool or a spa or room service, you’ll be disappointed. But if you want to experience what it’s actually like to live in the medina, with all the sounds of daily life filtering in and the incredible architecture surrounding you, then this place gets it exactly right.

Reviews of Riad Les Trois Mages

  • A luxurious haven in the middle of the hustle and bustle. – Sarah from Luxembourg – 22 June 2025 (10/10)

We enjoyed our stay at Riad les Trois Mages. Aziz was an extremely friendly, generous and communicative host and he keeps the Riad perfectly with exceptional taste.

What could be improved: The property is in the Medina neighborhood of Marrakesh. It is very well situated to explore some of the key sites, but in future we might choose to stay in a more residential neighborhood, especially as female travelers. That being said inside the Riad itself was completely peaceful.

  • Beautiful relaxing Riad. Aziz and his staff were so welcoming and couldn’t do enough through out our stay. Would recomme – Briony from United Kingdom – 22 June 2025 (10/10)

Beautiful riad in centre of Marrakesh. Perfect walking distance to suks. The roof top balcony was beautiful.

What could be improved: Nothing loved it

  • Exceptional – Thea from Norway – 24 May 2025 (10/10)

Very clean and such friendly staff! Also, it was very central, as everything we wanted to see during our 4 days in Marrakech was within a 30-minute walk. Highly recommend.

  • Exceptional – Iris from Ireland – 22 May 2025 (10/10)

Aziz manager was a gentleman went above and beyond to help in any way he could .

  • A perfect riad! – Andrew from United Kingdom – 10 May 2025 (10/10)

An incredible riad! It was beautifully designed, super clean, quiet, and relaxing, mixing traditional design with modern comfort. Beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were clean and well-functioning. The terrasse was a lovely place to have breakfast, swim, and relax. The staff made it really amazing – Aziz was incredibly thoughtful, waking up to give us hot coffee and bread at 5am before our balloon ride. We asked for bananas one morning at breakfast and he ran out to buy some, and they appeared as part of our (very well stocked) breakfasts every morning! Bonus was the incredibly cute kittens in the street outside

  • Great stay, lovely Riad, great staff – Andrew from United Kingdom – 29 April 2025 (10/10)

Staff were excellent; breakfast, facilities etc were all great

What could be improved: Unfortunately there was a mix up with the main room as description said there were two beds (only one), luckily there was a spare room in the Riad that we were able to have

  • Hard to believe this is only a 3 star riad because it felt like a 5 star boutique escape. – Lachlan from Austria – 10 April 2025 (10/10)

Hard to believe this is only a 3 star riad because it felt like a 5 star boutique escape. The vibe is chill and beautiful, the rooftop pool is pure magic, and the mint tea never stops flowing. We spent hours up there soaking in the sun, dipping in the pool, and just enjoying the peaceful views.

The staff were amazing, so kind and genuinely helpful with everything from dinner tips to airport rides. Our room was stylish and super comfortable, and breakfast each morning was fresh and delicious.

This place is a hidden gem in Marrakech.

  • Exceptional – Stephanie from United States – 8 April 2025 (10/10)

Beautiful property, lovely and clean room
(Luxurious bath towels) and great food. Aziz and his staff were the best. He made spa reservations for us and also procured train tickets for us. A wonderful stay.

  • Exceptional – Stephanie from United States – 6 April 2025 (10/10)

The staff is super friendly. Breakfasts were good with lots of choices and at whatever time we wanted. Our laundry was down free of charge. The pool deck was comfortable. The towels in the rooms were luxurious! Aziz helped us to book a massage near by and he booked train tickets for us. It was comfortable and nicely decorated. We would highly recommend the Riad.

  • Excellent. Second visit and can’t wait for my third – Maria from United Kingdom – 29 March 2025 (10/10)

    Great location
    Close to souks/medina
    Really helpful staff
