Riad Madinina Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first walked through the narrow alleyway of Derb Nakhla to find Riad Madinina, I was questioning my GPS. The medina’s winding streets can mess with your head, but that’s actually part of the charm here. Once you push through that heavy wooden door (and trust me, it’s heavier than it looks), you’re hit with this incredible sense of stepping into someone’s beautifully preserved home rather than a typical hotel. The courtyard just opens up around you with these gorgeous zellige tiles catching the light, and honestly, the photos online don’t do it justice.
What really gets me about this place is how they’ve nailed that sweet spot between authentic Moroccan architecture and modern comfort. The rooms – well, they’re not huge by Western standards, but they’re thoughtfully designed with these incredible carved plaster details and traditional tadelakt walls that feel smooth as silk. I mean, you’re literally sleeping inside a piece of Marrakech history here. The staff knows the medina like the back of their hand, which is gold when you’re trying to navigate to Jemaa el-Fnaa without getting completely turned around (happens to the best of us). They’ll actually walk you partway there the first time, pointing out landmarks you can use to find your way back.
The rooftop terrace is where you’ll probably spend your evenings – you can catch glimpses of the Koutoubia Mosque minaret between the neighboring buildings, and when the call to prayer echoes across the city at sunset, it’s pretty magical. Breakfast up there is this relaxed affair with fresh orange juice that tastes like liquid sunshine and pastries that are clearly made nearby, not some industrial kitchen. The only thing I’d mention is that sound travels in these old riads, so you might hear your neighbors chatting or moving around – it’s not necessarily bad, just part of the authentic experience. Also, if you’re arriving by car, forget about parking nearby. The taxi or your transfer will drop you at the edge of the medina, and you’ll walk the last bit with your luggage. It sounds like a hassle, but honestly, it adds to the whole adventure of staying in a place that’s been here for centuries, tucked away from the modern world just outside those ancient walls.

Reviews of Riad Madinina
Great value for money and in general comfortable and clean and friendly – Liudmila from Italy – 25 June 2025 (8/10)
Air conditioned, clean bathroom, ok Wi-Fi, great breakfast, wonderful staff,
What could be improved: Location is good of you want to love in hostorical Medina quarters. But aside the charm it’s pretty run down and dirty area. Otherwise all greatGood, comfortable and quiet stay – Aaishwarya from Germany – 20 June 2025 (10/10)
Jacuzzi was the highlight of the property. The Riad is beautifully decorated and well maintained. The guy on the reception was very good, talkative and guided well. He welcomed us and offered Moroccan tea and explained about Riad and Morocco. Time well spend in Riad
What could be improved: Location was the worst part of the property. Have to go through ugly smelling street in medinaExceptional – Sempanyi from Uganda – 11 June 2025 (10/10)
The quietness, jacuzzi, deco, breakfast
Exceptional – Maia from United Arab Emirates – 6 June 2025 (10/10)
It looked exactly like the photos and the staff were wonderful. Everything was clean, bed was comfortable. Breakfast was great! I would come back!
Exceptional – Ariella from United Kingdom – 5 June 2025 (10/10)
The room was beautiful. Expect it to be narrower than you might be used to in a western hotel, but this was standard of the 'riad' style archictecture in morroco. It was beautfully decorated, spotlessly clean, and felt very modern and comfortable, with a hint of that morrocan design charm.
The bathroom had a lovely tiled shower, good pressure, and great hot water. The aircon works well, and bed is comfy. The hottub on the roof is blessedly warm in the cool morrocan evenings (we travelled in May and found the pools in other hotels were too cold to use, but the Hottub at Medinina was amazing.
The staff were friendly and welcomed us with morrocan tea and a chat up on the rooftop. Breakfast was a selection of fruits, bread, jam, cheese, and honey (and good coffee).
What could be improved: The main streets to get near to the area to access the hotel pass through a butcher/ local market area, and you will need to carry your bags as car's wont fit down the street, but thats the price you pay for being in the medinaAmazing Riad. Very clean and spacious, close to Marrakesh centre and staff area very friendly and helpful – Taqiu from United Kingdom – 5 June 2025 (10/10)

Exceptional – Yao from China – 25 May 2025 (10/10)
I had a great stay at this hotel! The owner is incredibly kind and always ready to help. I was especially touched that they arranged someone to pick me up at night when I returned to the hotel alone — it made me feel very safe and cared for. Also, I really loved their bathroom — it was clean, spacious, and very comfortable.
Great stay, would recommend. – James from United Kingdom – 23 May 2025 (9/10)
Rooftop space was lovely, bed was comfy and the breakfast was delicious and the staff were really helpful. They directed us to the Riad upon arrival, we would recommend using their courier service for this.
What could be improved: Location – as this is located in the medina, you can’t get a taxi directly to the Riad. We had some scary interactions with locals at night within the souk area as we walked back to the Riad.
