You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first wound through those narrow medina alleys looking for Riad MAHJOUBA MARRAKECH & SPA – I mean, Derb el Bomba isn’t exactly the easiest street to find, and my taxi driver actually had to ask for directions twice. But honestly, that’s part of the charm of staying deep in the medina’s heart. Once you duck through that unassuming wooden door on arset Tihiri, it’s like stepping into a completely different world. The contrast hit me immediately – going from the dusty, chaotic energy of the medina streets to this serene courtyard with its traditional zellige tiles and gentle fountain trickling in the center. The whole place has this authentic riad feel without being overly touristy, which is harder to find than you’d think in Marrakech these days.

What really got me was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about making your stay work. They’ll actually walk you back to the main souks the first time (trust me, you’ll need it), and they know all the good spots that aren’t complete tourist traps. The spa is legit too – not just some afterthought slapped onto the name. I had a hammam treatment that left me feeling like a new person, and the massage therapist knew what she was doing. The rooms vary quite a bit depending on which one you get, but even the smaller ones have character with those thick tadelakt walls that keep things surprisingly cool during the day. You’ll hear the call to prayer from the nearby mosque, but it’s not overwhelming – more like a gentle reminder of where you are. The rooftop terrace becomes magical in the evenings when the Atlas Mountains catch the last light, and it’s where most guests end up gathering for mint tea or a quiet drink.

Look, staying in the medina isn’t for everyone – you will get a bit lost, there’s no parking anywhere close, and the streets can feel overwhelming if you’re not used to that kind of sensory overload. But if you want to actually experience Marrakech rather than just visit it, this riad gets it right. The location puts you within walking distance of Jemaa el-Fnaa (about 8 minutes if you know the way), but you’re tucked away enough that you won’t hear the drum circles all night. I’d say book one of the larger rooms if you can – they’re worth the extra cost for the space and the better bathroom situation. The breakfast is simple but good, served in that beautiful courtyard, and honestly, starting your day there with fresh orange juice and Moroccan pastries while planning your medina adventures feels pretty perfect.

  Our stay at Riad Mahjouba was absolutely wonderful – we could not recommend it enough and would definitely stay here again next time we are in Marrakech. It is in an excellent location with everything you want to see less than a 20-minute walk away. The host Youseff was very helpful and happy to give recommendations and Chaouqi kindly organised our pick-up and drop-off to the airport. We were made to feel very welcome during our stay.
  
  Rooms are a nice size, beds are comfy and bathrooms are clean. Working air con also available in the rooms which was a life saver after days exploring in the heat. Breakfast was included in our booking and it was such a nice start to the day with fresh pastries, coffee and traditional Moroccan tea.

  This beautiful Riad combines traditional interior design and a comfortable, modern-day staying in Marrakesh. I absolutely loved my stay in the Riad. Very clean and looked after by the staff. The staff working there are most welcoming, very friendly personalities! Breakfast was included with traditional Moroccan tea served! The accommodation offers facilities like Hamam, massage options, all reasonably priced. The location is great, within a 20min walk to the city centre. The hospitality I felt and received was incredible!
