RIAD MAKENE MOUCHKILL Overview
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked down Derb Bounouar looking for this place – honestly, the narrow alleyways in the Medina can be pretty intimidating if you’ve never been to Marrakech before. But then you find Kaat Bennahid N°3, and suddenly you’re stepping into this gorgeous riad that feels like someone’s elegant family home rather than a hotel. The entrance is modest (like most riads), but once you’re inside, the traditional courtyard with its intricate tilework and that peaceful fountain sound just hits different after the chaos of the souks outside.
What I really loved about Riad Makene Mouchkill is how it manages to feel authentically Moroccan without being stuffy or over-the-top touristy. The owners clearly know their stuff – the restoration work is beautiful, with those classic carved plaster details and heavy wooden doors that make you feel like you’re living in a piece of history. The rooms are actually spacious, which isn’t always a given in the Medina, and the beds are seriously comfortable. I mean, after a long day of wandering through Jemaa el-Fnaa and getting lost in the leather souks, you really appreciate a good night’s sleep. The rooftop terrace is where you’ll probably spend your evenings though – the views over the Medina at sunset are pretty spectacular, and it’s quiet enough that you can actually have a conversation without shouting over street noise.
Location-wise, you’re right in the heart of things but tucked away enough that you won’t be dealing with tourist crowds at your doorstep. It’s maybe a ten-minute walk to the main square, but here’s the thing – navigation in the Medina is tricky even with GPS, so don’t be surprised if it takes you a bit longer the first time. The staff is really helpful with directions though, and they’ll often walk you partway if you’re heading somewhere specific. Actually, that’s probably what impressed me most about this place – the service feels genuinely warm rather than just professionally polite. They helped arrange a cooking class for us, gave solid restaurant recommendations that weren’t just tourist traps, and even sorted out a reliable taxi driver for our day trip to the Atlas Mountains. With a 9.2 rating, it’s clearly not just me who thinks this place gets the balance right between authentic character and modern comfort.

Reviews of RIAD MAKENE MOUCHKILL
Fantastic experience in a beautiful Riad in the heart of Marrakesh – Luis from Portugal – 15 June 2025 (10/10)
Beautiful Riad with a great location for staying in the Medina and visiting the city. All the staff were incredibly nice and helpful during the entire stay! We felt at home and had a fantastic stay in here, so we definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Marrakesh 🙂
What could be improved: I can’t think of anything negative about this property. If I were to make a suggestion, it would be to offer a bit more variety in the breakfast, as guests staying for several nights might appreciate a change from having the same food each day.Highly recommend staying here! – Annabelle from Ireland – 10 June 2025 (10/10)
This was such a beautiful stay. The highlight of this stay were the staff. They were all so friendly and helpful especially Zeze who was very patient with my terrible French and couldn't have done more to help us. The room was beautiful and very cool in the heat. The atmosphere is so peaceful in the middle of an often chaotic central Marrakech. It was ideal having a little fridge in the room. The rooftop and the cold Jacuzzi were a lovely thing to have after a hot day in the city.

The booking manager (unfortunately we forgot his name) was the most helpful and accommodating person we've ever met during our travels. Truly exceptional service — and we want to thank you sincerely through this message.

Beautiful serene Riad, lovely quiet, dark room ensuring a good nights sleep. Breakfast always good. Really lovely people. Accept the offer of a private airport transfers especially if arriving at night. Also, accept the wonderful opportunity of dinner in, on the terrace, the food is wonderful, the setting quite special.
What could be improved: A minor thing as the staff very happily obliged, but would have liked a key to the front door, rather than having to ring the bell, other than that, everything was on point.Wonderful Riad with singing birds ♥️🕊️ – Katarzyna from Poland – 29 March 2025 (10/10)

Good location (if the intention is to stay in the old medina), very helpful staff. Solid breakfast.
What could be improved: The shower could have a bit more of water pressure.
