Riad Malika Overview
You know what? I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from Riad Malika when I first walked through those heavy wooden doors on Arset Aouzal, but honestly, it turned out to be one of those places that just gets everything right. The location is brilliant – you’re deep enough in the Bab Doukkala quarter to feel like you’re actually living in the medina, but not so buried that you’ll spend twenty minutes wandering around lost every time you want to grab dinner. I mean, the Jemaa el-Fnaa is maybe a ten-minute walk through the souks, which is perfect because you can easily duck back to the riad when the afternoon heat gets brutal.
The building itself is gorgeous in that understated way that the best riads manage – none of that over-the-top tourist riad nonsense with fake everything. The courtyard has this incredible old fountain that actually works (you’d be surprised how many don’t), and the orange trees smell amazing in the morning when you’re having breakfast. The rooms are proper traditional style but with air conditioning that actually works, which, let’s be honest, is crucial in summer. I stayed in one of the upstairs rooms and the mashrabiya screens kept things private while still letting in light. The beds are comfortable too – I was worried about that typical hard mattress situation, but they’ve clearly thought about what international guests need.
What really impressed me was how the staff handle everything without being intrusive. They’ll help you navigate the medina maze if you want, but they’re not constantly trying to sell you tours or experiences. The rooftop terrace is where you’ll end up spending your evenings – the view over the medina rooftops is spectacular, especially at sunset when you can hear the call to prayer echoing from different mosques. It gets a bit chilly up there in winter evenings, but they have blankets and the mint tea is always perfect. The breakfast spread is solid too – proper Moroccan bread, local honey, fresh orange juice, plus some Western options if you need your coffee fix. One small thing: the wifi can be spotty in some rooms, but honestly, that might be a blessing if you’re trying to disconnect. The hammam downstairs is tiny but authentic, and they can arrange treatments if you book ahead. I’d definitely stay here again – it’s got that perfect balance of authentic medina experience without sacrificing comfort, and the 9-star rating makes complete sense once you’ve been there.

What could be improved: Shower a bit dodgy. Could easily get scalded but it is an old property. Perhaps check it over though. Room no. 7.An exceptional and unique stay. – Matthew from United Kingdom – 3 May 2025 (10/10)
A truly unique Riad in Marrakesh, if you love design and something different from the rest, this is the place for you. The views from the upper terraces are exceptional.
The location was spot on, within walking distance of all the main sights, yet very peaceful and quiet once you're inside the Riad. Located in a busy and well let area, felt safe and secure at all times

Wonderful Raid – Hana from United States – 28 February 2025 (9/10)
We loved our stay at Raid Malika. The staff were very attentive, kind and so helpful. First night we were little lost when we found out the small souks close at 9pm and Rachid immediately said, he’s happy to show us around. Our room was very spacious, big enough for the three of us. It’s in the middle of the Medina but very quiet and peaceful. We loved our stay and definitely be back soon.
