The courtyard’s got this traditional fountain that actually works (not always a given in riads, honestly), and the sound of trickling water sort of drowns out the scooters and street vendors outside.

The whole place feels properly lived-in, which I love about these converted merchant houses. The zellige tiles aren’t perfect – some are chipped, others have that worn patina that comes from decades of Moroccan sun – but that’s exactly what makes it feel authentic. I stayed in one of the upstairs rooms during Ramadan last year, and you could hear the call to prayer from Sidi Mimoun mosque drifting over the rooftop terrace in the early morning. The staff actually knows their stuff too, which matters when you’re trying to navigate the medina for the first time. They’ll tell you to avoid the main tourist drag through Souk Semmarine during the afternoon rush (trust me on this) and point you toward the quieter routes to Jemaa el-Fnaa.

What really won me over was the attention to details that most places mess up. The WiFi works throughout the building – even up on the terrace where you’ll probably spend most of your time once you discover the views over the old city walls. The shower pressure is solid, which feels miraculous after you’ve spent a day walking through dusty souks. And honestly? The breakfast spread on the rooftop is worth waking up for, especially if you grab a spot before the sun gets too intense. Fresh bread from the neighborhood bakery, local honey, mint tea that’s actually made properly – none of that tourist stuff. The only minor gripe I have is that the rooms facing the courtyard can feel a bit echo-y when other guests are moving around, but that’s pretty standard for these old riads with their open-air design.

Here’s the thing about Riad Marchica – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the medina, and that’s exactly why it works. The 8.7 rating makes sense when you consider that it delivers on what actually matters: genuine hospitality, a peaceful refuge from the sensory overload outside, and that feeling like you’re staying somewhere with real history instead of a themed hotel. Plus, you’re close enough to walk to the major sights without being right in the middle of the tourist circus. If you’re someone who appreciates the balance between authentic atmosphere and basic comfort, this place hits the sweet spot.

  The service. He was waiting for us until we returned. Also, he was aware that we had to take a Taxi at 8:30 to go to the airport, so he prepared the breakfast before we wake up so we were able to eat something before leaving!

  Very much enjoyed our stay at Riad Marchica. The staff were very welcoming and even brought forward our breakfast time due to having to leave early a couple of times. Lovely staff and lovely rooms.

  Hanane, the manager, was very friendly, always had an incredible willingness to help, and communicated perfectly in English. The breakfast was amazing—traditional, very complete, and full of flavor. The riad was beautiful and clean, and it had a rooftop terrace with a pool and a beautiful view of the mosque. Additionally, the neighborhood was very safe to walk around at any time of the day. Overall, the place was very peaceful and beautiful.

  The place isn't the easiest to find but we called once close and the receptionist came to get us.
  The place is clean and well cared for, the breakfast was good and there's a nice rooftop area.
