You know what caught me off guard about Riad Marrakech Ourika? It’s actually way out there – like, seriously 30 kilometers from the city center on the Ourika Valley route. I mean, when you first see the address you might think “hmm, that’s pretty far,” but honestly, that’s exactly what makes this place special. The drive out there takes you through some gorgeous Berber villages and you start seeing the Atlas Mountains getting closer, which is kind of magical if you’re coming from the chaos of Marrakech proper.

The riad itself feels like someone’s elegant family home that just happens to take guests. It’s got that authentic moroccan architecture – you know, the kind with beautiful zellige tiles and carved plasterwork – but it doesn’t feel like a museum. The rooms are genuinely comfortable (I’m talking good beds and proper hot water, which isn’t always a given in rural Morocco), and the staff actually lives nearby so they know all the hiking trails and can point you toward the best tagine spots in the small villages. What really impressed me was how quiet it gets at night – no city traffic, no honking, just the sound of the valley settling down. During the day, you can hear the river running and sometimes goats wandering around, which sounds touristy but is actually just… life out there.

The thing is, this place works best if you’re planning to explore the Ourika Valley anyway – there are some incredible day hikes, traditional Berber markets on certain days of the week, and those famous waterfalls everyone talks about. If you’re someone who wants to walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa for dinner, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want to use it as a base for mountain adventures and then come back to a really peaceful, well-run place to sleep? It’s pretty perfect. The 8.9 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but it does what it does really well. Plus, the value is solid for a 4-star property, especially when you factor in that you’re getting mountain views and actual tranquility, which is honestly priceless after a few days in Marrakech’s medina.

  Nous avons apprécié la tranquillité la propreté et nous sommes senti comme à la maison. Pas de vis-à-vis la piscine. Pour nous tout seul. Un vrai plaisir. J’ai sonné le propriétaire sans faire exprès au téléphone. Il m’a rappelé dans la seconde qui suit. Il est vraiment toujours disponible et à l’écoute il essaye de faire au mieux pour que tout se passe bien. Je reviendrai avec grand plaisir et je recommande pour des familles. C’est vraiment le top. On avait la bouteille de gaz qui s’est vidé en même pas cinq minutes. Elle était changée.

  La maison est très bien, l'accueil est gentil, il y a tout ce qu'il faut dans la maison. L'eau de la piscine est fraîche et propre donc parfait vu les températures élevées. Très proche de la rivière Ourika on l'on peut manger dans l'eau.

  Très belle maison, elle est fonctionnelle et propre. Les draps également étaient propres, très rare de trouver des draps laver en location. Le personnel disponible. Vraiment rien à reprocher le séjour était parfait. Merci à l'hôte.

  Exceptionally well built riad in which, rare for Morocco, everything works! We were so pleased that we decided to extend an extra day and change our holiday plans just so that we could enjoy the pool and beautiful calm views just a little bit longer!
  
  What could be improved: Hard to think of anything, the pool water isn’t heated so just make sure it’s 26+ degrees outside and you’ll be fine!
