Riad Matins De Marrakech Overview

You know what really struck me about Riad Matins De Marrakech? It’s tucked away in this maze of narrow alleys in the old medina where most tourists never venture – I mean, I literally got lost twice trying to find it the first time, even with GPS. But that’s actually part of the charm. The address says Houmet Bab Taghzout, which honestly means nothing until you’re there, but once you push through that heavy wooden door marked 210, it’s like stepping into someone’s beautifully curated secret.

The whole place has this authentic riad feel without being too precious about it, if that makes sense. The central courtyard has these gorgeous zellige tiles that catch the morning light just perfectly (hence the name “Matins” – mornings), and there’s this subtle sound of water trickling from a small fountain that somehow drowns out the call to prayer and street noise. I stayed in one of the upper-level rooms during Ramadan, and honestly, the soundproofing was better than I expected for a traditional building. The rooms themselves are spacious with high ceilings and traditional tadelakt walls, but they’ve added modern touches like reliable wifi and actual hot water pressure – which, let me tell you, isn’t always a given in the medina.

What really sets this place apart is the breakfast situation. They serve it on the rooftop terrace with views over the medina’s rooftops, and you can actually see the Atlas Mountains on clear days. The owner, Mohammed, knows the medina like the back of his hand and will draw you little maps to avoid the main tourist traps near Jemaa el-Fnaa. He told me about this tiny spice shop just three alleys over where locals actually buy their ras el hanout – not the tourist version, but the real deal. The staff here gets that most people staying in riads want that authentic Moroccan experience, but they also understand you don’t want to rough it completely. Check-in was smooth, they helped arrange airport transfers (which I’d definitely recommend because finding this place in a taxi at night is… well, good luck), and they’re genuinely helpful without being pushy about excursions or shopping. The 9.4 rating honestly doesn’t surprise me – it’s one of those places that just gets the balance right between authentic charm and actual comfort.

Reviews of Riad Matins De Marrakech

  • If you are staying in Marrakesh and want to experience the luxury of a Riad, then look no further! The rooms were spotle – Catriona from United Kingdom – 9 June 2025 (10/10)

The staff were always on hand to help and they were very attentive. We really felt at home!

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Far exceeded our expectations, fabulous, would recommend 100% – Gerry from United Kingdom – 22 May 2025 (10/10)

The room was very comfortable with modern very quiet air conditioning, breakfast was lovely served on the roof terrace ,with different local items every day and always included eggs/omelette/scrambled etc… we pre ordered dinner at the Riad on our day of arrival as we had a long day travelling , the three course meal of local dishes was great. There are some very nice restaurants within a 5 minute walk away. They also organised a 4 hour guided private walking tour of Marrakech which was amazing & informative, our guide was the best. The Riad is within 20-30 minute walk of just about everything that is worth seeing in Marrakech ,and if you get tired then a cheap taxi back is the answer.

What could be improved: Nothing to dislike.

  • Thanks a lot to all the staff, they really made us feel at home. – Felip from Spain – 26 April 2025 (10/10)

Everything was perfect. Great and comfortable room, really tasty breakfast and wonderful location. The staff is excellent, very kind, friendly and helpful.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Superb – Tanja from Denmark – 20 April 2025 (9/10)

When you step inside, you’re met with a peaceful and calm atmosphere – a striking contrast to the lively chaos outside. The riad is beautifully decorated with colorful mosaics, lush green plants, and a lovely rooftop terrace that’s perfect for relaxing.

Breakfast was absolutely exceptional – with homemade food and different every day, served on the rooftop. The staff were incredibly friendly, especially the woman how made breakfast I believe she is the owner, welcoming, and always ready to help with a smile.

What could be improved: We are a family of four and we had two rooms. Both beautiful but one of them was very small.

  • Very nice Riad – Martina from Italy – 20 April 2025 (8/10)

The place is lovely, very clean and the staff is amazing and super friendly. Big breakfast on the terrace every morning, the common areas are very quiet and nice, the position is very convenient in the heart of Medina.

What could be improved: The budget room is a bit too dump as there are no windows.

  • Exceptional – Nadia from United Kingdom – 16 April 2025 (10/10)

The property was very clean, the breakfast amazing and really good location!!!

What could be improved: All really good!

  • Superb – Hugo from United Kingdom – 15 April 2025 (9/10)

Riad and room were pretty, breakfast was one of the best we had in Morocco

What could be improved: Wifi was not great in the room. Price a bit steep overall given the size of the room

  • Amazing – Mara from United Kingdom – 5 April 2025 (10/10)

It's absolutely amazing. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Perfect location only 5m walk from restaurants and Medina

The Riad was always super clean, and the breakfast was delicious.

  • Fantastic! Thank you – Julie from United Kingdom – 4 April 2025 (10/10)

Would highly recommend! Lovely welcome from Shihab and the team. He gave us a thorough guide of places of interest and restaurants. The Riad is very clean and the breakfast is traditional and tasty.
Hassan was very helpful and knowledgeable. Taxi can drop you at the door. Visiting Marrakesh – this is the place to stay!
