Riad Meriem Overview
You know what hits you first when you walk into Riad Meriem? The silence. I mean, you’re literally steps away from the chaos of Jemaa el-Fnaa – we’re talking maybe a 10-minute walk through the souks – but once you step through that heavy wooden door on Derb El Cadi, it’s like someone just hit the mute button on Marrakech. The courtyard is one of those classic riad setups with the fountain in the center, but honestly, they’ve kept it simple in the best way possible. No over-the-top tourist trap vibes here.
The location is actually brilliant if you know the medina at all. Azbezt is one of those neighborhoods where you’ll see more locals than tourists, which means you’re getting real Marrakech life without the constant hassle from street vendors. The derb (that’s the little alley) is narrow enough that you might worry about finding it at first, but once you do, you’ll appreciate that taxis and tour buses can’t really get back there. It stays quiet, especially in the evenings when you want to actually sleep. The staff will usually meet you at the main road if it’s your first time – trust me, take them up on that offer because these alleys can be tricky even with GPS.
What really makes this place work is the attention to detail that doesn’t feel forced. The rooms have that traditional tadelakt plaster work, but the beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in riads), and the bathrooms are updated enough that you’re not dealing with temperamental plumbing. The rooftop terrace is where you’ll probably spend your mornings with mint tea – you get those classic medina views with the Atlas Mountains in the background, but it’s not so high up that you feel disconnected from the neighborhood below. I actually preferred it to some of the fancier places I’ve stayed because it feels authentic without sacrificing comfort.
The owners clearly get that travelers want to experience Marrakech culture, not just Instagram it. They’re connected with local guides who know their stuff (not the aggressive types who hang around the main squares), and they’ll point you toward the good restaurants in the area – there’s this tiny place about five minutes away that does incredible tagines and costs about a quarter of what you’d pay near the big square. The breakfast is served in that central courtyard, and they source a lot of the ingredients locally, which sounds like marketing speak but you can actually taste the difference.
Look, if you’re expecting a resort with a pool and room service, this isn’t your spot. But if you want to actually stay in the medina without feeling like you’re in a tourist bubble, and you appreciate when a place gets the fundamentals right – comfortable beds, hot water, helpful staff, and a location that lets you experience real Marrakech – then Riad Meriem delivers. The fact that it consistently gets those high ratings isn’t an accident. It’s one of those places that does what it promises, no more, no less, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

Reviews of Riad Meriem
Rustic and charming holiday that exceeds expectations. – Navnith from Ireland – 25 June 2025 (10/10)
The Riad was excellent. The room and facilities were exactly as promised. The bath tub was huge and exceeded expectations. The biggest plus point for this Riad is how friendly Yassine and Sami are. Sami especially went above and beyond to source anything I wanted and made sure I had a relaxing holiday.
What could be improved: The location and the narrow lanes maybe overwhelming at first with the fear of getting lost but if you stay for a couple of days it gets easier to arrive back to the Riad, even at night.Exceptional stay.great location and they couldnt have been any more welcoming. Brealfast was also delightful. Highly re – Lareina from United Kingdom – 22 June 2025 (9/10)

An unforgettable stay made even more special by the incredible hospitality of Sami and Yassine. – Rob from United Kingdom – 4 June 2025 (10/10)
My girlfriend and I stayed here last month, and honestly, we cannot fault the place. Yassine and especially Sami, the two amazing guys who run the Riad, truly made our stay unforgettable. They were always available, incredibly welcoming, and went out of their way to help us feel at home.
Whether it was booking excursions, recommending great restaurants, or simply checking in on us with a warm smile and some delicious Moroccan tea, they were consistently thoughtful and kind. Sami, in particular, made a lasting impression with his friendliness and genuine care.
We genuinely can’t wait to come back—not just to enjoy the beautiful Riad again, but to see Sami and Yassine too. They made our trip so special.
What could be improved: Honestly, I can't think of anything I didn’t like! The only thing to be aware of is that Marrakech can feel a bit overwhelming at first, especially if it’s your first time visiting. But don’t worry—Sami and Yassine are there to help. They made sure we felt comfortable and even helped us download an offline map so we could easily find our way around.Exceptional – Ann from United Kingdom – 4 June 2025 (10/10)

Gorgeous Riad so authentic . Really quiet but right in the heart of the Medina. Our room – Matisse – was huge – extremely comfy bed , great air con and excellent shower.
What made our visit was the staff – so welcoming. Sammi was exceptionally helpful – served us delicious breakfasts and helped with all our questions and gave us great advice .Exceptional – Caitlin from Ireland – 9 April 2025 (10/10)
Genuinely couldn’t recommend more, the staff were so helpful and kind
Very good – Dmitrijs from Latvia – 31 March 2025 (8/10)
everything perfect, except i was charged for taxi fee for 10 eur which I couldn't use it. That why need to pay via booking always, not via cash
Lovely Riad with an amazing terrace! – Tom from United Kingdom – 13 March 2025 (9/10)
Lovely Riad with extremely friendly hosts – situated away from the hustle and bustle of the main square. They kindly came and collected my friend and I from where our taxi dropped us off. The rooftop terrace is also especially nice – plenty of space with lovely views across the Marrakech skyline.
What could be improved: Wifi was intermittent – and could be quite hard to find if you don’t have access to Google Maps with data.
