Riad Merzouga Overview
Look, I’ll be straight with you – finding a proper riad in Marrakech that actually lives up to the hype is harder than you’d think, but Riad Merzouga honestly surprised me. It’s tucked away on Derb Herbil in the Kasbah, which means you’re literally steps from the Saadian Tombs and that whole historic quarter, but here’s the thing – you’d walk right past it if you didn’t know what to look for. The entrance is just this unassuming wooden door, and then boom, you step inside and it’s like someone hit the mute button on all that medina chaos.
The courtyard is what got me first – I mean, these old riads are supposed to have that central space, but this one actually feels alive, you know? There’s this fountain that’s not just for show (the sound is perfect for drowning out any street noise), and the way the light filters down through the different levels… honestly, I spent way too much time just sitting there with my morning coffee. The rooms wrap around it on different floors, and each one feels completely different. Mine had these hand-painted tiles that were definitely not some tourist reproduction – you can tell when craftwork is the real deal. The bed was firm enough that I didn’t wake up with a backache, which is more than I can say for half the places I’ve stayed in Morocco.
What really sold me on this place though was how the staff actually seemed to know Marrakech, not just the tourist version. When I asked about getting to Jemaa el-Fnaa, they didn’t just point me toward the main drag – they showed me this little route through the souks that cuts the walk in half and takes you past some incredible metalwork shops. And the breakfast? Well, it’s not some continental buffet situation. They make everything fresh on the rooftop terrace, and you can see the Atlas Mountains on clear days while you’re eating actual Moroccan bread that’s still warm. The only minor thing – and this is pretty typical for the medina – is that getting a taxi right to the door can be tricky since it’s in the pedestrian zone. But honestly, the walk through the Kasbah is half the experience, especially in the early evening when the light hits those red walls just right. You’ll understand why people fall in love with this city.

Exceptional – Gig67 from United Kingdom – 23 June 2025 (10/10)
A lovely oasis in the bustling kasbah. Everyone is chilled and helpful as you are supposed to be in the desert! We particularly loved breakfast, the chilled swimming pool, and the rooftop in the evening. Special thanks to Amin.
What could be improved: There's nothing to dislike. Be aware that the last 2-300m to the riad are in narrow alleys not accessible by car.Specially holiday – Zuzana from Slovakia – 21 May 2025 (10/10)
It was excellent, safety and the people were really friendly. What we needed, we got it.

Lovely Riad in Authentic Marrakech – Ronanmc from Ireland – 17 April 2025 (10/10)
Lovely riad in what felt like a more authentic part of the Medina. Large bed, in a good-sized room. Super breakfast. And very friendly! Loved it.
Beautiful riad with great staff – Jacob from United Kingdom – 15 April 2025 (10/10)
Staff were super helpful on arrival and able to accommodate my early check out to catch a flight. The room was lovely, extremely cozy and well designed in the local style. While I never got around to using it the pool area looked great and the roof deck was a nice open air escape. For the price this is an excellent stay, highly recommend.
What could be improved: It was a bit hard to locate but apart from that no issues at all.Exceptional – Dorota from Slovakia – 10 April 2025 (10/10)
Everything was amazing. Ibrahim was so helpful and efficient. The room was clean and on the terrace which was just an extra and we could enjoy coffee or tea in the tent. The breakfast was great, so was service. Would definitely come back.
An excellent base to explore Marrakech – Fiona from United Kingdom – 4 April 2025 (10/10)
Clean and peaceful refuge in the medina. We were looked after with such friendly kindness. Breakfast was delicious, fresh and plentiful. The shower was powerful with plenty of hot water. We felt very safe walking around the medina although watch out for the motorbikes!
Beautiful Riad, in the heart of the city, and one of the best staff we've ever met during our travels – they helped – Gergely from Hungary – 22 March 2025 (10/10)
Beautiful interior, in the heart of the Medina, well maintained.
What could be improved: Just one thing: some hand towels would be nice above the towels provided.Very good – André from Netherlands – 18 March 2025 (8/10)
Atmospheric radia. Good breakfast. Clean hotel room. Nice bathroom. Close to the medina.
What could be improved: nothing
