Riad Mounir Overview

You know what struck me first about Riad Mounir? It’s tucked away on this narrow derb in the Bab Doukkala neighborhood, and I mean really tucked away – you’ll definitely need that address saved on your phone because the medina’s maze of streets can be completely disorienting. But honestly, that’s part of the charm. The location is actually perfect if you want to feel like you’re staying in authentic Marrakech without being right in the tourist chaos around Jemaa el-Fnaa.

The riad itself has that classic Moroccan courtyard setup with the fountain in the center (though don’t expect it to be running 24/7 – water pressure in the medina can be… temperamental). What I really loved was how quiet it gets once you’re inside those thick walls. The medina outside can be pretty intense with the scooters and vendors, but step through their doors and it’s like entering this peaceful oasis. The staff – and this is something that actually matters when you’re navigating a place like Marrakech – they know their stuff. They’ll help you figure out directions, recommend the good hammams (skip the touristy ones), and honestly saved me from overpaying for pretty much everything in the souks.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star riad – traditional tiles, carved wood details, decent bathrooms. Some face the courtyard, others look out toward the neighborhood, and while the street-facing ones can get a bit noisy during morning prayer calls, it’s not unbearable. The rooftop terrace is where you’ll want to spend your evenings though – you can actually see the Atlas Mountains on clear days, and the sunset views over the medina are incredible. I mean, every riad claims to have great rooftop views, but this one delivers. The breakfast situation is solid too, though it’s pretty much the same spread every day (fresh bread, local honey, mint tea that’s way too sweet but somehow perfect). One thing to note – like most places in the medina, don’t expect lightning-fast WiFi, and the AC in summer months works hard but the old walls can only do so much. But really, you’re staying in a centuries-old neighborhood, so adjust expectations accordingly. The 8.7 rating makes sense – it’s not luxury resort level, but it nails what a good riad experience should be, and the Bab Doukkala location means you’re close enough to everything but far enough from the crowds to actually relax.

Reviews of Riad Mounir

  • Very good – Steve from Portugal – 18 May 2025 (8/10)

The staff were fantastic ,nothing was too much for them ,and room was clean and spacious

What could be improved: The location is a little too far out and the food was extremely bland and boring

  • Exceptional – Alexandre from Brazil – 4 May 2025 (10/10)

The staff was great and Abdul cooked a fantastic dinner for us. My wife is celiac and they bought some gluten-free stuff for breakfast. They even fixed something in our room while we were still there.

  • Exceptional – Maria from Poland – 4 May 2025 (10/10)

This was our final two-night stay in Morocco, and we enjoyed it very much!
The young, helpful staff was amazing (our 12-year-old son even got to practice his English chatting about online games :)).
The place is adorable, located within the walls of Old Marrakesh, yet conveniently away from the city noise.
The room was a bit dim (which is common in riads), but the beds were comfortable and the bathroom was spacious, clean, and well-maintained.
We loved relaxing on the couches in the common area, enjoyed the big, tasty breakfasts, and had a lovely dinner on our last night.
Thank you guys for everything! 🙂

  • Exceptional – Aleš from Czech Republic – 17 March 2025 (10/10)

It is a beautiful riad, a bit further from the main tourist attractions. However, there are great restaurants and other places around too, so it was no complication. The staff was very helpful, the communication was quick, all our requests were fulfilled. They booked a 3-day tour to Sahara for us and the company they work with is perfect. Very good breakfast. The overall experience was great.

What could be improved: missing internet connection

  • Amazing stay 🙂 – Luana from Italy – 8 March 2025 (8/10)

The property is really traditional and beautiful. It is very very clean and the staff is really friendly and helpful!

  • Traditional Riad with the best staff seeing to our every needs. – Gardengirl from United Kingdom – 28 February 2025 (10/10)

A quiet area with a wonderful ambiance. The staff were absolutely amazing, nothing was too much trouble for them. Always smiling, friendly and very efficient. Organising a superb driver and trips for us.

What could be improved: Nothing we didn't like.

  • A comfortable night’s stay in a riad – Gary from United Kingdom – 23 February 2025 (9/10)

Very well furnished and decorated both in the room and the communal areas, with a super atrium.

What could be improved: Derelict space next door.

  • A relaxing stay, with clean, beautiful accommodation and a friendly host. – Erika-simona from Romania – 23 February 2025 (10/10)

The whole experience was wonderful. From breakfast to the daily cleaning kept by the staff. The location is beautiful, quiet and authentic, at a maximum of 20 minutes walk from the center, and you have the opportunity to admire the city like this.
Abdessamed's kindness is boundless. He is always attentive and helps you with any kind of information you need. Including with breakfast, he took care to offer us something, although it was served starting at 8 am.

    I recommend this accommodation.

  • Exceptional – Faye from United Kingdom – 14 January 2025 (10/10)

I perfect traditional Riad ! Amazing host who organised an airport pickup and met us from the taxi to guide us through the medina to the accommodation. This made me feel safe and welcome. Host was always on hand to help with directions or advice. We stayed in a triple room 4. It was spotlessly clean and comfortable. A great place to explore Marrakech from. I would recommend this Riad.

What could be improved: Nothing. A great authentic Riad.

  • Exceptional – Solé from Spain – 8 January 2025 (10/10)

The amazing hospitality from the staff. The Riad had great facilities and the breakfast was amazing. Also, he helped us a lot with everything, we appreciate it a lot.
We truly recommend staying here for a lovely stay in Marrakech!

What could be improved: Everything was perfect
