Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of riads in Marrakech, and most of them are either tourist traps or hidden gems that only locals know about. Riad N5 falls squarely in the latter category, and honestly, I’m almost hesitant to write about it because it’s one of those places you want to keep to yourself. It’s tucked away on Rue Oqba Ben Nafaa – you know, that narrow street that branches off from the main drag leading to Jemaa el-Fnaa. The address might say it’s in the 40000 postal area, but really, you’re in the heart of the medina where GPS becomes useless and you’ll probably get lost at least once trying to find it (pro tip: call ahead and they’ll send someone to meet you at the nearest landmark).

What struck me first wasn’t the usual riad stuff – the courtyard, the fountain, the traditional tiles – though all of that’s beautiful. It was actually how quiet it gets once you step inside. I mean, you’re literally minutes from the chaos of the main square, but somehow the thick walls of this place create this incredible bubble of calm. The rooms are what you’d expect from a proper 4-star riad, but there’s attention to detail that you don’t always get – like the fact that the beds are actually comfortable (not a given in Morocco, trust me), and the bathrooms have decent water pressure. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work, which… well, that 9.5 rating didn’t come from nowhere.

Here’s the thing though – and this is where local knowledge comes in handy – the location is absolutely perfect if you know how to work it. You’re close enough to walk to all the main souks and attractions, but you’re on a side street that doesn’t get the constant stream of tourists and touts. The nearest parking is about a 5-minute walk (essential info if you’re renting a car), and there’s a great little café just around the corner where locals actually go for breakfast. The riad itself serves dinner on request, and I’d actually recommend it – they source ingredients from the local markets, and it’s way more authentic than most of the tourist restaurants you’ll find. One small thing to note: like most riads in the old medina, the rooms around the courtyard can echo a bit, so if you’re a light sleeper, maybe mention that when booking and they can probably sort you out with something quieter. But honestly, after a day of exploring Marrakech, I doubt you’ll have trouble sleeping. This place has that rare combination of being genuinely Moroccan while still being comfortable for travelers who aren’t looking to rough it.
