Riad Nasreen Overview

You know what really struck me about Riad Nasreen? It’s tucked away on Derb Zemrane in a way that feels completely hidden from the chaos of the main medina streets, but you’re still close enough to walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa in about ten minutes. I mean, once you figure out how to actually find it – the entrance is pretty unassuming, just a traditional wooden door between what looks like residential buildings. But that’s kind of the point with these riads, isn’t it? They’re designed to be these secret oases.

The moment you step through that door though, honestly, it’s like entering a different world. The courtyard has this gorgeous fountain in the center (you can hear it bubbling away from most of the rooms, which is either soothing or annoying depending on how light a sleeper you are), and the tilework is absolutely stunning – not the mass-produced stuff you see in some places, but intricate geometric patterns that catch the light differently throughout the day. The rooms themselves vary quite a bit in size and layout, which is typical for these converted traditional houses, but they’ve done a really nice job maintaining the authentic architectural details while adding modern comforts. The bathrooms are particularly well done – good water pressure, which can be hit or miss in the medina, and they’ve managed to fit proper rainfall showers into spaces that were clearly never designed for them.

What I really appreciated was how the staff genuinely seemed to know the neighborhood. When I asked about avoiding the main tourist drags for dinner, they didn’t just rattle off the usual suspects but actually drew me a little map to this family-run place a few streets over where locals eat. And breakfast on the rooftop terrace – well, it’s not fancy, but sitting up there in the morning with mint tea and fresh bread while the city wakes up below is pretty magical. The terrace also gives you great views over the medina rooftops, and you can actually see the Atlas Mountains on clear days. Fair warning though – this area can get pretty lively in the evenings, especially on weekends, with music and conversations echoing off the narrow alley walls. It’s part of the authentic experience, but if you’re a super early sleeper, maybe pack earplugs. The Wi-Fi is decent in most areas, though it can be spotty in some of the ground floor rooms. Overall, it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re staying in someone’s beautifully restored family home rather than just another hotel – which, given that it’s earned an 8.7 rating, seems to be exactly what most people are looking for when they come to Marrakech.

Reviews of Riad Nasreen

  • Excellent – Susan from United Kingdom – 2 July 2025 (9/10)

Location was very good. Convenient for sightseeing and tours.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Wonderful building and staff. – Luke from United Kingdom – 30 June 2025 (9/10)

The building is beautiful and the staff were exceptionally helpful – Khalid and Habib looked after us wonderfully, making sure all our needs were met. The rooms were comfortable and cool even in 42 degree heat. It's right on the edge of the souks and has easy access to the main sites, but is also easy to get to by car so you don't have to drag your bag through miles of alleyways.

I really recommend using their Hammam too.

What could be improved: We liked the pool but it's smaller than it looks in photos – more like a big hot tub but cool.

  • Had a lovely stay, all the staff were the friendliest ever, made me feel like family, would definitely recommend, gorgeo – Goncalo from United Kingdom – 13 June 2025 (10/10)

  • Interesting to be in the heart of the media and experience the local culture but with modern comfor – Barbara from United Kingdom – 28 May 2025 (9/10)

Breakfast was substantial, beautifully presented, including special features such as home made yogurt flavoured with vanilla, fresh fruit juice pains au chocolate, local typical pancakes or pastriesBed was really comfortable. Air con was excellent. Fridge provided in room . .

What could be improved: Lock on room door was damaged and staff did not manage to repair it before we left. Staff were extremely pleasant and accommodating in all other respects.

  • Excellent -would come again – Corina from Romania – 20 May 2025 (10/10)

The staff especially Khalid and Habib were very friendly and always accommodating. Very keen to make our stay as nice as possible. Even allowed us to check out later due to our flights being late

What could be improved: It can get a bit noisy during night but that's expected with the inner courtyard/riad setting. Did not mind it at all but maybe something to keep in mind if you would prefer it to be more quite.

  • A beautiful home away from home in the heart of the city – Jenny from United Kingdom – 10 May 2025 (9/10)

We received the warmest welcome & were looked after so well during our stay.
The riad is peaceful, beautifully decorated & well located (it doesn’t take long to walk to any places of interest)
Breakfast was a highlight every day with fresh yogurt made on their kitchens & delicious fresh orange juice & coffee.

What could be improved: The only issue we encountered during our stay was with the hot water but this was quickly sorted for us.

  • Very good – Janet from United Kingdom – 6 May 2025 (8/10)

  • A fabulous stay. – Serafina from United Kingdom – 25 April 2025 (9/10)

A quiet oasis in a superb location. A beautiful old building with stunning views across the city.
Abdullah Latif was so kind , helpful and gracious. And Hita the cook bakes the best cakes and serves delicious mint tea.

What could be improved: A bit more breakfast – perhaps some eggs or dates etc
