Riad NEJJARINE Overview

Look, I’ll be straight with you about Riad NEJJARINE – it’s one of those places that actually lives up to the hype, which honestly surprised me a bit. You know how Route des Remparts can be hit or miss with accommodations? Well, this riad sits right in that sweet spot where you’re close enough to the medina chaos but far enough away that you can actually sleep at night without hearing every motorbike revving up at 3 AM.

The first thing that hits you when you walk through those heavy wooden doors is how they’ve managed to keep the authentic Moroccan feel without making it feel like a museum. I mean, you’ve got your traditional tadelakt walls and zellige tiles, but there’s also proper hot water pressure and WiFi that actually works – trust me, I’ve stayed in riads where you’re lucky if the internet reaches past the courtyard. The central patio is where you’ll probably end up spending most of your downtime, and honestly, it’s perfect for that. There’s something about the way the light filters down through the space that makes even your terrible vacation photos look decent. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place – nothing groundbreaking, but comfortable beds and air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a freight train (looking at you, half the hotels in Gueliz).

What really sets this place apart, though, is how the staff actually seems to know Marrakech beyond just the tourist traps. When I asked about getting to the Saadian Tombs without dealing with the usual hassle, they gave me this route through the mellah that I never would have found on my own. And the breakfast – well, it’s not going to win any awards, but they do these little msemen that are way better than what you’ll get at most places, and the orange juice is actually fresh, not that sugary stuff from concentrate. The 8.4 rating makes sense when you think about it – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but it gets the important stuff right. You’re about a 10-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa if you take the direct route, or 15 if you want to wander through some of the quieter souks first. Just don’t expect to roll your suitcase over the cobblestones without some serious arm workout action.

Reviews of Riad NEJJARINE

  • Great Riad to venture in Marrakech – Hermine from Belgium – 5 June 2025 (8/10)

Big Riad with everything we could ask for.
Terrasse, every room had its en-suite, furnished kitchen and air conditioning in every room.

It’s in a residential area, so it’s calm and really secure. Easy to park.

As it’s outside the medina, it takes 5 min to access the medina and 15 for the more popular places.

What could be improved: There are opening hours to the shared pool which meant it was already closed when we arrived at 18:30.

The aircon wasn’t working in the top room.

  • Spacious 3 bed with shared pool near the Medina – Alex from United Kingdom – 24 May 2025 (7/10)

Located in a gated complex of Riads and apartments, mostly owner occupied, set around a mosque and communal pool, on the outskirts of the Medina. The complex includes two grocery stores, a handful of inexpensive cafés, ATM, hairdressers and travel organizers for trips out of the city. The accomodation is spacious with a small very basic kitchen, dining room, sitting area and 3 en suite bedrooms set over 4 floors, with a small rooftop terrace. A/C is a plus in the summer. Wifi is a little limited at 5-6mbps. TV includes a few English language news programs (59 and 62) and film channels (18,20 and 21).

What could be improved: Set in a terraced block of tightly packed apartments with poor construction and little or no soundproofing. Expect lots of noise from numerous neighbours, especially late in the evening. Furnishings are on the basic side, hard seats, firm beds and poorly equipped kitchen. The kitchen has no hot water, a basic camp stovetop, no oven, microwave or electric kettle and a hotchpotch of assorted pots and pans, cutlery and crockery. No sign of an ironing board or iron. Despite its proximity to the Medina, the schlep home can be tiring, especially in 90+ temperatures.

  • Very good – Mark from United Kingdom – 18 April 2025 (8/10)

    Size, cleanliness and great value

What could be improved: Location, walk back from medina at night was a bit hairy

  • Beautiful – Sy from United Kingdom – 16 March 2025 (9/10)

Amazing riad, was a beautiful place to stay, felt safe and secure, plenty of room, toilets will definitely come again

  • Family friendly place – Muhammad from United Kingdom – 9 February 2025 (9/10)

    It was as described
Very secure and tourist friendly location.

  • Good – Thomas from United Kingdom – 1 January 2025 (7/10)

Good location, in a secure compound. Great host communication.

What could be improved: Rooms are basic and a little dated for €85/night.

  • Exceptional – Collette from United Kingdom – 1 January 2025 (10/10)

The restaurants around the Riad serve very good food. We enjoyed the pancake lady and the ice cream man.

  • Awesome! – Tamas from Germany – 21 September 2024 (10/10)

Awesome place!!! Very nice, great location and stuff!

What could be improved: All great

  • A pleasant stay for the cheap price – Busra from United Kingdom – 6 February 2024 (9/10)

An amazing stay that was great value for the affordable price. The staff were all lovely and really helpful whenever we needed something or when we had a question. We enjoyed exploring the complex with affordable cafe and shops nearby.

What could be improved: We booked 4 bedrooms but the apartment only has 3 bedrooms and 1 living room (but the owner was nice about this and gave us a partial refund). 1 of the showers had low water pressure and was unusable. There isn't hot water always available for showers.

  • Exceptional – Najib from United Kingdom – 2 August 2022 (10/10)

Good communication ilike the people the atmosphere beautiful no comment thank you for all

What could be improved: The parking space is abit of a problem that is all thank you
