You’ll wind through Derb Azouz, past locals going about their daily business, until you reach this traditional riad that’s been thoughtfully restored. The entrance might seem modest from the street, but step inside and you’re greeted by that classic Moroccan courtyard design with intricate tilework and a peaceful fountain at the center. It’s the kind of place where you immediately feel the bustling medina melt away.

Location & Neighborhood

The location is honestly spectacular — you’re right in the heart of the medina, which means everything is walkable. I mean, you can reach Jemaa el-Fnaa in about ten minutes on foot, but you’re tucked away enough that you won’t hear the evening drummers from your room. The Mouassine district is perfect because it’s authentically local (you’ll see neighbors chatting on doorsteps and kids playing in the alleys) but still accessible for visitors. Couples seem to particularly love this area — and I get why, since there’s something romantic about getting slightly lost together in these ancient streets before finding your way back to your peaceful riad.

The Rooms & Atmosphere

The rooms maintain that traditional Moroccan aesthetic without feeling like a museum piece. You’ll find beautiful tadelakt walls, carved wooden details, and textiles that actually feel authentic rather than touristy. What I appreciate is how they’ve managed to keep the historical character while ensuring modern comfort — the beds are genuinely comfortable, and the bathrooms work properly (which, trust me, isn’t always a given in medina riads). The courtyard becomes the social heart of the place, especially in the evenings when other guests gather for mint tea or to plan their next day’s adventures.

Breakfast & Hospitality

Breakfast is served in the courtyard, and they offer both continental and halal options, which shows thoughtful attention to their diverse guests. The staff here really know Marrakech — they’re not just polite, they’re genuinely helpful with recommendations that go beyond the obvious tourist spots. You know what impressed me? They’ll actually draw you little maps and explain which souks are best for specific items, or suggest the perfect time to visit certain attractions to avoid crowds. It’s that kind of local insight that makes a difference when you’re navigating the medina for the first time.

  Upon arrival, I was warmly welcomed with traditional Moroccan tea and biscuits, which set the tone for a truly pleasant stay. The room was spacious, well-appointed, and featured comfortable beds, along with a charming terrace that enhanced the experience. Breakfast was of high quality, and on the day of my excursion, the staff kindly prepared a takeaway breakfast for me. The entire team was exceptionally friendly and respectful, offering valuable tips on the best places to visit in the city. Housekeeping was also excellent, with the room cleaned and tidied daily. The location is ideal—just a 10-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa Square.

  The staff were exceptionally kind and attentive to our needs. For example, packing us a breakfast when we needed to leave early one day, and walking me & my luggage out of the Medina to a pick-up spot for my airport ride, which they arranged. Great location in the Medina. Breakfast included a variety of choices, on the scenic rooftop. Good wifi. Would absolutely staying here again.

  Marrakech can be sensory overload. Riad O Ly was a true respite. I felt cared for. The staff took care of everything, even when changes came up in my itinerary. I had flexibility to sit in the courtyard or rooftop areas when I needed to recharge after exploring the city. And the staff gave me a paper map and told me of a wayfinding app that didn't require wifi.
  
  What could be improved: The room itself had no view, but there were other places in the riad where I could sit and absorb the view.

  Started off with a small room, which was fine apart from no wardrobe ( Riads are not always large buildings)
  but then moved to a larger room. The staff were excellent friendly and the pick up taxi they organised took us right into the souk as near as he could get.

  The staff at Riad O LY were amazing , so hospitable and friendly . Would come back and stay here just for the staff. Bed was the comfiest best I’ve ever slept in and the breakfast was so nice to wake up to , if I’m ever in Marrakesh again I will stay here
