Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of riads in Marrakech, and honestly, most of them feel like they’re trying too hard to be Instagram-perfect. But the Riad of the Storks? It’s actually got that authentic charm without making you feel like you’re living in a museum. The whole place is yours when you book it – all 17 spots – which means you’re not awkwardly sharing breakfast with strangers or tiptoeing around other guests. I mean, there’s something pretty magical about having an entire traditional Moroccan courtyard to yourself, especially when you can hear the actual storks nesting on the rooftops (yeah, the name isn’t just for show).

The location on Rue Touareg is what really sold me on this place. You’re deep enough in the medina to feel like you’re experiencing the real Marrakech – you know, where locals actually live and shop – but you’re not so buried that you need a GPS and three phone calls to find your way back after a night out. The morning call to prayer echoes beautifully through the courtyard around 5:30 AM, and honestly, after the first night it becomes this oddly comforting rhythm rather than an annoyance. The riad itself has that perfect worn-in feeling where the tadelakt walls have developed this gorgeous patina, and the zellij tilework has those tiny imperfections that remind you real artisans made this place by hand decades ago.

What really gets me is how the staff (there’s usually someone around during the day) actually knows the neighborhood. They’ll send you to the little bakery three streets over where the locals get their bread, not the tourist trap everyone else recommends. The rooftop terrace – and trust me, you’ll spend a lot of time up there – has these incredible views over the medina, especially at sunset when the whole city turns this warm orange color. The rooms are scattered around the traditional courtyard layout, so if you’re traveling with a big group, people can actually have some privacy while still being together. Just a heads up though – the traditional Moroccan plumbing can be a bit temperamental, and the WiFi definitely has its moody moments, but that’s sort of part of the charm. You’re here to disconnect anyway, right? The whole experience feels like staying at a friend’s family home, if your friend happened to have incredibly good taste and a thing for authentic Moroccan architecture.

  Everything! We were a group of 5 and had the Riad for private use. Excellent location, we walked to all main attractions. Karim and the staff really made a difference with their fantastic service. We asked to organise a dinner and breakfast and both were excellent for a very reasonable price. Everything we asked was well organised, from airport taxis to booking a hamman and massage. I will stay here again when I come back to Marrakech and can strongly recommend this place, specially if you are coming with a group.

  From the very beginning until the last moments of our trip the hospitality was 5-star. Omar organized an amazing experience for all of us. He prepared a traditional Moroccan dinner and breakfast. The host paid attention to every little detail and took care of us every step of our trip. It was an amazing experience and we recommend it to everyone who wants to feel the Moroccan spirit.

  Beautiful Riad in a great location, close to lovely restaurants and landmarks. Riad of the Storks was truly a home away from home. Omar, our host treated us as more than paying guests. He treated us as members of his extended family. His service was second to none and he always went above and beyond to make sure all our needs were met. No request was too big and he was always on hand to help, be it restaurant recommendations, endless cups of tea and glasses of orange juice, arranging taxis and even sourcing a printer so we could print our passes!

Omar is an excellent host, who will welcome you with great tea and will be able to help you with any problems or requests you may have.
