I’ll be honest – finding Riad Petit Palais tucked away on Derb Jamaa was a bit of an adventure, even with GPS. But that’s sort of the point with these medina riads, isn’t it? You wind through these narrow alleys where motorcycles somehow squeeze past donkey carts, and just when you think you’re completely lost, there’s this unassuming wooden door that opens into something magical.

The moment you step inside, it’s like someone hit the volume button on the city noise – suddenly everything just quiets down to this peaceful hum. The riad has this gorgeous central courtyard that actually feels spacious (the 100m2 isn’t just marketing speak), and honestly, the tilework is stunning without being over-the-top touristy. What really got me was the terrace – you can sit up there in the evening with mint tea and watch the sun set over the medina rooftops while the call to prayer echoes across the city. There’s something deeply calming about it, even if you’re not religious. The rooms have that authentic Moroccan feel but, you know what, the plumbing actually works properly and the AC doesn’t sound like a freight train, which believe me, isn’t always a given in these traditional places.

Location-wise, you’re really in the heart of things here. The souks are maybe a five-minute walk – close enough that you can easily duck back for a siesta when the afternoon heat gets brutal, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the constant hustle and bustle right outside your door. I mean, Jemaa el-Fnaa is practically around the corner, which is great for first-time visitors, though it can get pretty intense with all the snake charmers and street food vendors. The staff seemed to really know their stuff about getting around – they had good recommendations for restaurants that weren’t just tourist traps, and they helped arrange a driver for day trips without that pushy sales vibe you sometimes get. One small thing though – the WiFi can be a bit spotty in some rooms, so if you’re planning to work remotely, maybe ask about that when you book. But honestly, part of me thinks that’s not such a bad thing when you’re staying in a place like this.

  Privacy im eigenen kleinen Riad – Sehr sauber – sehr authentisch – super sorgsamer, hilfsbereiter und freundlicher Gastgeber – 1A Frühstück im nahegelegenen traumhaften Riad möglich – direkt in der Medina – eigene ruhige Dachterasse (kein Blick) aber ein sonniger Platz zum entspannen … Inkl.   What could be improved: Le riad est petit, la chambre avec les lits simples est minuscule, des oiseaux nichent à l'intérieur du patio et chantent très fort, les équipements sont basiques, nous avons eu de la peine à mettre en marche la clim-chauffage, impossible d'allumer le chauffage au gaz, une dalle des escaliers est cassée….

  Sehr gemütlich und landestypisch. Mitten im quirligem Markt von Marrakesh und trotzdem in einer Seitengasse ruhig gelegen. Sehr guter Kontakt zum Vermieter.
  
  What could be improved: Alles bestens, der offenen Bauweise und Jahreszeit geschuldet kann es Nachts ausserhalb der Schlafräume mal ein wenig kühl werden.

  Das Riad ist toll, gross & lichtdurchflutet. Obwohl es inmitten der Altsdtadt von Marrakesch ist, ist es komplett ruhig und angenehm. Die Hosts sind überdruchschnittlich nett und schnell (sei es die Organisation eines Airport-Transfers oder eines Frühstücks im eigenen Riad).
