Riad Princesse Du Désert & Spa Overview

Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of riads in Marrakech, and honestly? Most of them try way too hard to be authentic. But Riad Princesse Du Désert is different – it actually gets the balance right between traditional charm and modern comfort. The location in Mouassine is perfect if you know the medina at all. You’re tucked away on a quiet side street (DB Aoubaid Allah – don’t worry, everyone gets lost finding it the first time), but you’re literally a five-minute walk from the main souks and maybe ten from Jemaa el-Fnaa. The neighborhood has this lived-in feel that a lot of tourist areas have lost, you know? You’ll hear the call to prayer from the nearby mosque, but it’s not overwhelming, and there’s this great little bakery around the corner where locals actually shop.

What really impressed me was how they’ve renovated this place. The traditional elements – the carved plaster work, the tiled floors, that gorgeous central courtyard – feel genuine, not like some designer’s idea of what a riad should look like. The spa is small but well-designed, and after spending hours wandering through the dusty souks, trust me, you’ll appreciate having a proper place to unwind. The rooftop terrace gives you those classic medina views without the crowds, and it’s actually quiet enough to enjoy your morning coffee or evening mint tea. I mean, you can still hear the city humming below, but it’s more atmospheric than annoying.

The staff here really knows their stuff too – they’re not just going through the motions with tourist recommendations. When I asked about getting to the Majorelle Gardens, they suggested the best time to avoid crowds and even drew out a walking route that took me through some interesting neighborhoods I wouldn’t have found otherwise. Check-in was smooth (they’ll send someone to meet you at the nearest car-accessible point since, well, it’s the medina), and they’re pretty flexible about luggage storage if you’re arriving early or leaving late. The rooms vary quite a bit – some are more traditional, others have been updated with modern touches – but they’re all clean and well-maintained. The Wi-Fi actually works, which isn’t always a given in these old buildings. One small thing – the hot water can take a minute to get going, but that’s pretty standard for riads and hardly a dealbreaker. With a 9.1 rating, you know other travelers are having good experiences too, and honestly, after staying there, I get why. It’s one of those places that feels like a real discovery rather than just another hotel booking.

    Fresh towels daily.
    Room cleaned daily.
Very friendly staff, escorted to the Riad and then to the taxi, helped with luggage.
Really enjoyed our stay. I will definitely recommend it and revisit.
Thank you to all at the Riad.

What could be improved: Their was not a lot not to like about the Riad.

  • Superb – Eva from Iceland – 3 May 2025 (9/10)

Great service and a beautiful place. Good breakfast and everything was super. good internet and staff was attentive and friendly

What could be improved: Room for 3 people was rather small, and this being my third time in a Marrakech I find that all riads are missing places to put away your things; nightstands, hangers on walls and such. And in a room with little to no floor space it becomes quite cramped when you have suitcases open.

  • Amazing riad with a great staff – Mick from Netherlands – 5 April 2025 (9/10)

The location is amazing. Within a five minute walk of the secret garden, 10 minutes to the big square and at night their are multiple good restaurants within walking distance. However the best thing about the riad is not the location or the facilities (while both are very good), it is the staff. They were amazing during our stay. They had suggestions of the best spots to visit in Marrakech, made diner reservations and arranged a trip to the Atlas mountains for us. I would definitely recommend this Riad for anyone who spends some time in Marrakech.

  • Exceptional – Anna from Germany – 13 March 2025 (10/10)

I had a wonderful stay at this riad in Marrakesh. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcome and safe. Abdo took care of everything, making my stay easy and enjoyable. The rooms were super clean, and the terrace was beautiful. Breakfast there was the perfect way to start the day. I highly recommend this place. Thanks to the entire team!

  • A beautifully decorated riad with a perfect location, excellent hospitality, and a warm, welcoming a – Nerijus from Portugal – 13 March 2025 (10/10)

Our stay at this riad was nothing short of exceptional! The location is ideal—right in the heart of the Medina, offering easy access to key attractions while still providing a peaceful retreat from the bustling streets.

The riad itself is beautifully decorated, clean, and full of charm. From the moment we arrived, Abdo and his team went above and beyond to ensure we had a comfortable and memorable stay. Their hospitality was truly outstanding—Abdo is not just a host but a guide, a caretaker, and a wealth of knowledge, always ready with helpful recommendations and practical tips.

The breakfast and overall food quality were excellent, making each morning a delightful start to the day.

If you're looking for a place that combines convenience, comfort, and warm hospitality at an affordable price, this riad is the perfect choice. Highly recommended!
