Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of riads in Marrakech, and most of them throw you into the chaos of the medina without much thought for your sanity. But this little gem on Derb Debagh Lakbir? It’s different. You’re tucked away in the old tannery quarter – yeah, the smell hits you occasionally when the wind shifts, but honestly, it’s part of the authentic medina experience, and inside the riad itself, you won’t notice it at all.

The thing that got me about this place is how they’ve nailed the balance between traditional Moroccan architecture and actually being comfortable for modern travelers. The two bedrooms are generous – I mean, you can actually walk around your bed without stubbing your toe on ancient tiles. The breakfast situation is handled really well too; they bring it up to the terrace most mornings, and you’re sitting there with mint tea watching the storks nest on the neighboring rooftops while the call to prayer echoes across the medina. It sounds cliché, but it’s genuinely magical at sunrise.

What really sets this apart from other riads is that you get the whole place to yourself. No awkward small talk with other guests at breakfast, no fighting for terrace space during golden hour photography sessions. The terrace, by the way, is absolutely the highlight – it’s where you’ll end up spending most of your time once you realize how intense the medina streets can be. The owners clearly know their neighborhood too; they’ll point you toward the less touristy routes to Jemaa el-Fnaa (about a 10-minute walk through the souks, though you’ll definitely get lost your first few times).

The location is actually pretty clever – you’re deep enough in the medina to feel completely immersed, but Derb Debagh Lakbir is wide enough that you won’t feel claustrophobic, and the taxi drivers know exactly where to drop you off. Pro tip: download offline maps and take a photo of the door, because these little streets all look identical when you’re coming back after a day of wandering. The staff arranged airport pickup for us, which I’d highly recommend unless you’re feeling very adventurous about navigating narrow medina streets with luggage.

  The location, the warm welcome by sahid, the beauty of the decor, the light from the glass roof, the comfortable beds, the great breakfast prepared daily by a wonderful local lady. An oasis of peace is the busy Marrakesh, walking distance from everywhere
  
  What could be improved: One toilet had an intermittent smell of pipes. This is not due to the house maintenance but rather a problem of the city infrastructure. Everything is very clean and curated.

  From the time we booked until the time we left, this property exceeded our expectations. Service was the standout — Noureddin the manager of the Riad was so helpful in every possible way, including booking a full itinerary for us (Agafay desert, Atlas Mountains, Hammam visit), as well as transport when we needed it. Said the receptionist was so helpful althroughout our stay with our car bookings and even helped us get laundry done. The breakfasts were superb and there was daily housekeeping, which we did not expect. The Riad is in a quiet location so we slept very well, and yet it is steps away from the shops leading to the Souks. The upstairs outdoor area was lovely for sundowners and is also where we rang in the new year! I would stay here again if I go back to Marrakesh.

  Location, location, location! The location of the property was excellent. Situated just on the entrance of the souks, in a residential area, you got to experience local culture and daily life, whilst still close enough to take a less than 15 minute stroll through the souks to reach the main square, or a 2 minute taxi ride around the edge of the city wall.
  
  The breakfast was made fresh, daily by a lady and was spot on everyday – definately a highlight of the stay.
  
  The property itself was very clean and decorated by someone who obviously has an understated artistic flare and good taste.
  
  The manager was very responsive and always responded to my queries in a timely manner. For example the ac on the first night was under preforming. When I informed him of this, he sent the technician out to fix it asap.
  
  All in all the property was excellent, and we were well looked after through out the stay.
  
  What could be improved: We went in probably the hottest week of the year. The glass sun roof made the upstairs extremely hot. Even openning the sun roof windows did very little to cool the place down.
  Not sure there is anything that could be done to improve this as the midday temperature was over 46 degrees.
  
  A small swimming pool on the terrace, even just a tub to dip the body in to cool down would have made this place perfect.

  The place was gorgeous and so clean! The private chef each morning was amazing, she was very kind and the food was delicious. we have recommended this place to many friends!
  
  What could be improved: you could sort of see the master restroom from the downstairs because there was a large window work only a sheer covering. it looks cool, but we were a little self conscious with our kids running around downstairs

  Stunning property with exceptional interiors. From the moment of booking the host was in touch with Al the information we needed. From sending a driver to pick us up from the airport and who we could use to get around Marrakesh (you have to be careful of taxis taking advantage) to a cook how made us the most beautiful breakfast every morning. Not only is the property beautiful but the terrace is also a gorgeous space and a lovely place just to sit and listen to the bird song.
