Riad Puchka Overview

You know what? I almost walked right past Riad Puchka the first time I was looking for it. The entrance on Derb Hadada is pretty understated – just a traditional wooden door that doesn’t scream “hey, I’m a hotel!” But honestly, that’s part of what makes this place special. Once you step inside, it’s like entering a completely different world from the chaos of the medina streets. The courtyard hits you with this incredible sense of calm, with that classic riad layout where everything revolves around the central open space. The tilework is gorgeous – not the flashy, over-restored kind you see in some of the touristy places, but the real deal with that slightly worn patina that tells you this building has stories.

What I really love about this spot is how it strikes this balance between authentic and comfortable. The rooms actually have character – thick walls that keep things cool during the day (and trust me, you’ll appreciate that in summer), traditional furnishings that don’t feel like museum pieces, and modern bathrooms that work properly. The rooftop terrace is where you’ll probably spend your evenings, and it’s got this perfect view over the medina rooftops toward the Atlas Mountains. I mean, every riad claims to have a great terrace, but this one actually delivers. The staff here really knows their stuff too – they’ll give you proper directions that actually make sense in the medina’s maze of streets, not just the usual “turn left at the carpet shop” nonsense.

Location-wise, you’re in the Ben Saleh quarter, which is honestly one of the better spots to base yourself. It’s deep enough in the medina that you feel like you’re experiencing the real Marrakech, but you’re not so far from Jemaa el-Fnaa that getting back feels like an expedition. The morning call to prayer drifts over from nearby mosques – some people might find it loud, but I actually love that reminder of where you are. Getting here from the main square takes about ten minutes if you know where you’re going, maybe twenty if you’re still figuring out the medina’s logic. The narrow streets mean no taxi access, obviously, but the riad can arrange for someone to meet you at the nearest accessible point if you’re dealing with heavy luggage. That 8.7 rating makes sense to me – it’s not perfect (the WiFi can be spotty, and some rooms are definitely better than others), but it’s got that authentic riad experience down without making you sacrifice comfort. If you want to feel like you’re actually staying in Morocco rather than just visiting it, this is your place.

Reviews of Riad Puchka

  • A beautiful chem hidden amongst the narrow streets of Marrakech – Gary from Ireland – 1 June 2025 (10/10)

A stunningly beautiful Riad, clean & tidy with excellent staff members.

What could be improved: Nothing whatsoever

  • Greta location and clean rooms – Federico from Italy – 8 May 2025 (10/10)

    Breakfast was great

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Great Riad with great facilities and friendly staff – Lily from Australia – 1 May 2025 (9/10)

The rooms were a great size, bathrooms were in great working order and clean. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The pool and lounging areas were a great addition for a relaxing afternoon.

What could be improved: The beds were a bit hard and very creaky, with my bed head not connected so every time I rolled over, it whacked the wall

  • Friendly & trusthworthy hosts. Beautiful riad – Torben from Belgium – 10 April 2025 (9/10)

We had a very nice experience: the hosts are super friendly & trusthworthy. They helped us find the way in the crowdy souks and made us breakfast to take away when we had early activities. The riad looks very beautiful and gives you a typical Morrocon experience. We booked some activities before arriving but we ended up booking them via the hosts as they had a good price and were really worth it. We would recommend to book the hammam experience and the private guide in the medina at the riad.

  • Oustanding – Kellie from United Kingdom – 6 April 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved: Absolutely nothing !

  • Beautiful Experience and excellent staff – Maria from United Kingdom – 2 April 2025 (10/10)

It was a lovely experience and the staff made it so easy and beautiful for us. Zakaria and the other 2 ladies were so helpful, friendly and smiling all the time. Zakaria went above and beyond to help us in everything. The rooms were so clean and had everything. The overall experience was great. We would love to go back and the location is great. Thanks a lot to the staff again.

  • Exceptional – Christine from Canada – 20 March 2025 (10/10)

We traveled with my elderly parents and two children. The Riad was a wonderful experience because of the great service and care from Zakaria. He showed us and explained how to move around the Medina with all of the bikes and people, answered all of our questions, spent time with us talking about interests, and was the best host we’ve had! Very knowledgeable, calm and kind. The ladies were excellent with keeping the Riad clean and breakfast!

We would recommend getting the airport shuttle as the Riad would have been difficult to find. Breakfast and especially the orange juice was a don’t miss! We purchased a guided tour, which was great for seeing the Medina and historical sites. We also had Zakaria and Ibrahim help book us a shuttle to the train that we ended up hiring to take us to Casablanca for less than the train would have cost.

Overall, we recommend the Riad for a real Medina experience! We very much appreciated the Riad Puchka staff!
