Riad Rafaele & SPA Overview

You know what hit me first about Riad Rafaele? The silence. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of the medina – I could hear the call to prayer from nearby mosques and the distant buzz of Jemaa el-Fna – but once you step through that heavy wooden door on Derb el Ghanjaoui, it’s like entering another world. The address might look intimidating if you’re not familiar with Marrakech’s maze-like streets, but honestly, it’s perfectly positioned in the Assouel quarter. You’re close enough to everything that matters (the souks are basically a five-minute walk) but tucked away enough that you won’t have tourists stumbling past your window at midnight.

The riad itself is one of those places that makes you understand why people fall in love with traditional Moroccan architecture. There’s this gorgeous central courtyard with a fountain that actually works – not just for show – and the sound of trickling water becomes this constant, soothing backdrop. The rooms wrap around it in classic riad style, and I have to say, they’ve done the restoration really well. It feels authentic without being rustic to the point of inconvenience, if you know what I mean. The spa is what really sets this place apart though. I’ve stayed in plenty of riads, and most just slap “spa” on their name and call it a day, but Rafaele actually has proper treatment rooms and therapists who know what they’re doing. After a day of getting lost in the souks (which you will, trust me), that hammam experience is exactly what you need.

What I really appreciate is how the staff handles the whole “navigating the medina” situation. They don’t just give you a map and wish you luck – they’ll actually walk you to the main street the first time, show you the landmarks to look for on your way back. The entrance is tucked between two other buildings, and there’s this small blue door that’s easy to miss, but once you know what to look for, it’s fine. Parking is… well, it’s the medina, so forget about pulling up to the front door. They’ll arrange for your bags to be carried in, which is honestly worth whatever tip you give the porter. The 9.2 rating makes total sense when you consider the combination of location, authenticity, and actual comfort – it’s not trying to be a five-star resort, but it delivers on everything it promises. If you’re looking for that quintessential Marrakech experience without sacrificing modern conveniences (the WiFi actually works, the hot water is reliable), this is your spot.

Terraces were amazing. Pool was so nice. Tons of places to lounge. Room was great as well.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Can’t wait to return – Kimberley from United Kingdom – 25 May 2025 (10/10)

    Beautifully designed and immaculate

What could be improved: It was tricky to find and the entrance was quite dark but the second you are inside it is beautiful

  • Exceptional – Anitha from United States – 7 May 2025 (10/10)

Riad Rafael is a beautiful property and in a central location in the Medina. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and really took care of the guests.

    What could be improved: Nothing!

  • Exceptional – Samantha from Australia – 5 May 2025 (10/10)

Absolutely stunning Riad! When you step into the Riad, it takes your breath away. It has a modern design, but all with the local Moroccan style. Gourgeous lounging areas around the pool, and a great bar on the rooftop too. Very luxurious room as well. We had the suite that could sleep 3, and the extra bed is actually on a loft so felt like a lot of space for the 3 of us.
We also had a very very late check in as we dropped our bags and went out exploring and then ended up going straight to dinner. The staff was there waiting for us, when we checked in at a very late hour. Fabulous service.

What could be improved: Nothing, everything was great.

  • Cool, friendly and relaxing haven in the heart of the Medina. – Jacky from United Kingdom – 1 May 2025 (10/10)

Riad Rafaele was a great place to stay to explore Marrakesh. It's location was so close to the souks and walkable to the main palaces and gardens that it was easy to get around and then return to the welcoming cool and relaxing haven of the Riad. Thomas and Valerie and all the staff were so friendly and welcoming and extremely helpful in helping with advice, directions, restaurant recommendations and bookings and we felt very safe while staying there.
Our room and bed was very comfortable and the breakfast in the roof top conservatory area was a bonus with fresh orange juice, eggs and breads. We experienced the hammam and relaxing massage which was great and lovely to have on site.
I recommend taking offer of Riad arranging taxi from airport as you may have difficulty finding it tucked away in the Medina!
We would definitely return and explore further into the Atlas Mountains and more.

What could be improved: The lock on our room was a bit temperamental at times but it was about to be fixed so not a big issue. Water pressure could be variable but as you are in the heart of the Medina, not unexpected and again no real issue.
Staff were always very helpful and ready to address anything we needed.

Wow! Such a beautiful oasis right in the heart of old town Marrakech. The staff go above and beyond to help! They were also very reassuring and comforting; as a mother and daughter travelling alone they were able to advise on how best to stay safe. The room was stunning (we had a Junior Suite), and the whole Riad was quiet and peaceful. Don't hesitate to book!
